  1. I bought 'Dangerous Instincts' by accident the other day when I meant to just add it to my wish list. When I bought something else (on purpose) later on it was already in my basket. What's a girl to do? I have to agree with your review of the book , pretty much says all that can be said on it. Thanks for the recommendation.
  2. I managed to buy a book by accident on Amazon last week. I thought I had clicked the 'add to wishlist' box when I was looking up a book mentioned by Pontalba in her thread, 'Dangerous Instincts' by Mary Ellen O'Toole. I've been dipping into it since it arrived, and finished it tonight. Interesting, easy to read, and amounting to organised common sense advice.
  3. Same here and me too!
  4. I have this bizarre ability of sorts whereby I can find the quote I am thinking of by flicking back through the book. My theory is that it was something that evolved during my degree years when I had to be able to make references throughout my work and was reading so many many books my brain just came up with it's own solution. Aside from this, especially if it is a line or passage that I need / want to share, I will write it down in one of my many 'to hand' little notebooks, where it'll sit alongside the shopping lists, random 'phone numbers and snatches of wild thoughts and ideas.
  5. It's been snowing here for a couple of hours now, and everything is looking pretty covered. We went out first thing and got a few bits before the snow started, and are now hunkering down for the weekend. Glad I'm not working today, I can just stay in with a good book! Stay warm everyone who needs to, and stay cool eveyone who needs that!
  6. No, you have to provide your own - and boy did I! Husband wondered what the heck had happened to me to make me blub so hard. 7) A Million Suns by Beth Revis This is the second book in the Across The Universe trilogy. I felt that the first book had been a complete and satisfying story that ended looking to the future for the characters. I therefore started the second book with a slight sense of trepidation at where the author would go with this, and worried that it would be more or less a dragging out of the first story. I needn't have worried; the story contiinues well, developing the the characters nicely and extending the premise into a chilling game of cat and mouse. Having read and enjoyed this second book I can look forward to Ms Revis' third and final book when it's released on kindle in May.
  7. I finished 'A Million Suns', the second book in the 'Across The Universe' trilogy by Beth Revis. An good sequel I didn't expect to enjoy as much as I did.
  8. Hey Brida! Good to 'see' you.

  11. Happy Birthday Sue! Have a lovely day. X

  12. Unfortunately Christine cannot type an amusing caption for this photoset, because she is dead. Unfortunately, Christine met a witch whose magic spells really work! Unfortunately, Christine still refuses to listen and starts spitting at everyone.
  13. The Last of The Comanches, a 1953 film.
  14. Sweet fennel tea. I've always loved the smell and taste of fennel and this tea is lovely.
  15. I finished reading the enjoyable YA dystopian novel 'Across The Universe' by Beth Revis last night. I hadn't realised that it was the first of a trilogy, but I have just downloaded part two to my kindle. I dunno - like I need more books!
  16. Our House ~ Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young
  17. Definitely worth reading Frankie. 6) Across The Universe by Beth Revis From Amazon, Trapped in space and frozen in time, Amy is bound for a new planet. But fifty years before she's due to arrive, she is violently woken, the victim of an attempted murder. Now Amy's lost on board and nothing makes sense - she's never felt so alone. Yet someone is waiting for her. He wants to protect her; and more if she'll let him. I had heard about this book a few times, and decided it was about time I read it. The story is told from the point of view of Amy, 'defrosted' before her due time, and Elder a potential future leader on board the ship. It unfolds at a good pace, the mystery of what has occured only deepened by investigation. The characters are well drawn and the reader develops regard for each of them, even those you end up loathing. An enjoyable and clever story, dark and thought provoking at times.
  18. I have to believe that I will one day have read all the books I am meant to, but as to whether this will be all the books on my tbr shelves and my kindle, I am uncertain. My mojo has been so wishy-washy over the past two years I refuse to count just how many books I have to read, as it might get spooked away from me. This does not stop me from enjoying the enormous pleasure of finding a book (paper or otherwise) that I can make my own. A trip to the high street always includes a visit to my local bookshop, and a quick trawl of the charity shops for a few book bargains. I still have a space or two on the shelves, and maybe one day I'll be less book needy, but that day isn't yet here.
