  1. I know what you meant about not Mr Fforde not delivering good quality stuff (sounds like drugs now!), but I get the feeling that he will only write a book he is sure of. He better! Otherwise I will have to have strong words to the highest authority!!!!!
  2. I think with the TN series the reader either loves them or feels "meh" about them - not anything in between. I'm glad I love 'em!
  3. Some things are beyond contemplating frankie! I'm already preparing myself for a conclusion to the series - not an easy thing, but I know it's out there soemwhere. *big sniffy sigh*
  4. 10)The Woman Who Died A Lot by Jasper Fforde There are some series of books that can have an ebb and flow of quality through the books, and you start questioning whether to bother with the next one or not. THIS IS NOT ONE OF THOSE SERIES! The originaity and high quality runs throughout Mr Fforde's Thursday Next series, never diminishing for me. This is the seventh in the series, and it had me engrossed from the start. The action rarely lets up, and you have to stay focused to keep up with the relentesss, humour, wit, original notions, puns and allusions. The world is a better place with Thursday Next in it for sure. In this book she faces Goliath, sentient copies of people, the future for her three chidren, the continuing infuence of Aornis and the smiting of Swindon by a vengeful god. A pretty normal day at the office for our wonderful and compelling heroine.
  5. We have enjoyed a few days of fun and relaxation since Wednesday. Husband had his birthday, and we took a trip into London, and have enjoyed walks and tv shows, and reading and laughing. Husband heads back into work tomorrow, while I return on Tuesday. I think tomorrow will be a mad catch up day for me,getting all those little jobs done, that I have ignored for days now!
  6. I give a big satisfied sigh of reading contentment as I turn the final page in 'The Woman Who Died A Lot' by Jasper Fforde. I adore the Thursday Next series, and this is the latest for me to read. My brain may go a little whirry at times, and I occasionally had to close the book, leave the room and do a mundane task for a while too help things sink in, but it was so worth it. Mr Fforde, I do like your way of thinking!
  7. This looks like such an interesting read. It's definitely going on my (very long) wish list. Great review Andrea.
  8. I've just had a J2O Glitterberry with built in edible (or drinkable) sparkle!
  9. Hey Hey, a birthday came and went! Happy Birthday (for yesterday) Wonderful M! XXX

  10. I decided to be very (and foolishly) good and wait until Jasper Fforde's ' The Woman Who Died A Lot' came out in paperback before I would own it. IT ARRIVED TODAY!!!!! Guess what I will be diving into over the weekend. I have been reading another book that has been a bit of a struggle for me, so this is wonderful, wonderful, wonderful stuff. Woo & most definitely Hoo!
  11. Happy Birthday Julie. Have a wonderful day. XXX

  12. I think I may have been channeling her a bit there muggle! But here are two (conflicting) theories; it may be that you dont want to retire and your body is punishing you for stopping, or it may be that you really should retire and you body is giving you a feverish woohoo. Either way (or neither way indeed!)) feel better soon.
  13. Or maybe it's your body's way of saying " About time!" Feel better soon muggle not.

  15. It's a case of softly softly catchee booky!
  16. Thanks Paula.
  17. That's a beauty Tim! Started and finished reading 'Bone Quill' by John & Carole E Barrowman. Really enjoyed the second story in this YA series.
  18. 9) Bone Quill by John & Carole E Barrowman I may have initially read the prequel to this book (Hollow Earth) out of curiosity, but I am most definitely reading this young adult series now because I love it! In 'Hollow Earth' the reader was introduced to twins Matthew & Emily, and their mother Sandie. They each have special and unique gifts that some fear, others desire and mean for all that they are to face much danger. During their adventures they make their way to a pair of Islands off the Scotiish Coast, where the twins learn of the magnitude of their gifts, the dangers they are likely to encounter and the reason their father disappeared from their lives. 'Bone Quill' continues where HE ended. The story slips seamlessly between the Middle Ages and the early animares and Monks on the Islands and present day where Matthew and Emily are still reeling from the closing events of HE. This is such a visual book, from the artwork to the lanscapes. I could close my eyes and see clearly each and every scene, with the Monastery chapters ensuring that I could almost smell the manure, feel the rough hewn cloth and cringe away from the chill winds coming in from the sea. The story is advanced at a rapid pace, with twists and turns beatifully thrown at the reader. The back and forth in time was really well balanced, and yet again we are left with a cliff hanger. * Shakes fist at authors* I am very much looking forward to the next installment.
  19. Happy Birthday James! Have a fab day. : )

  20. Hello Lovely. How are things? Hope all is good with you. X

  21. Happy Birthday Karen. Have a lovely day. X

  22. It's been settling gradually here, and at it's thickest layer is about 4 inches deep. The vilage looks like Narnia in parts. We have been listening to our neighbours children playing out all day - snow brings out a certain delight in children.
  23. Has been snowing fairly heavily here since about 8.30 this morning, settling nicely on all the frozen snow from Friday. Should be fun come tomorrow morning. We are spending the day indoors reading and telly watching and won't fret about what will happen this week with regards to getting about until we have to.
  24. I will take a wander around my book shelves later and see all of my ones, any I find I think will now head toward the charity shop.
  25. 8) Dangerous Instincts - Use An FBI Profiler's Tactics To Avoid Unsafe Situations by Mary Ellen O'Toole & Alisa Bowman I cannot improve on Pontalba's excellent review of this book (Thatns Pontalba ), so I hereby copy her review. Easy to read, and I read it on and off over the course of a few days.
