  1. Congratulations Kell.
  2. Chinese takeaway! We haven't had one in ages, so this is a wonderful treat.
  3. Riddley Walker by Russell Hoban From Amazon, ‘Walker is my name and I am the same. Riddley Walker. Walking my riddels where ever theyve took me and walking them now on this paper the same. There aint that many sir prizes in life if you take noatis of every thing. Every time will have its happenings out and every place the same. Thats why I finely come to writing all this down. Thinking on what the idear of us myt be. Thinking on that thing whats in us lorn and loan and oansome.' Composed in an English which has never been spoken and laced with a storytelling tradition that predates the written word, RIDDLEY WALKER is the world waiting for us at the bitter end of the nuclear road. It is desolate, dangerous and harrowing, and a modern masterpiece.
  4. Oh, that is a wonderful title! ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ It's Not The End Of The World - Super Furry Animals
  5. Is there any news about who may have been responsible for the explosions? Such an awful thing to have happened.
  6. Sorry This was from my son when I told him to stop apologising! Sarcasm runs deep in our family!
  7. Happy Happy Happy Birthday! I hope you have been enjoying a lovely day. XXXXX

  11. Thank you for that Pontalba, what a wonderful and clearly heartfelt post. I simultaneously read it and furiously scribbled titles down as I went.
  12. The Cassandra Clare on my kindle, so I am completely delighted that you think it is a good one. I hadn't realised it was the last in the series though. That's a shame, as I have really enjoyed these atmospheric Victorians!
  13. I read this years ago, and you are right - it is an outstanding story. There are details of it that have stayed with me for years, including the dogs name and the beautifully understated emotional scenes. Great review Kidsmum.
  14. 'The Book' for me was a series - The Chronicles Of Narnia. I was a voracious reader from a young age, and devoured book after book, but it was this series that truly transported me to another world. I lived and breathed the series every spare moment, dressing (at home) as I thought a Narnian would dress, and even eating foods I thought they might eat. I yearned deeply to be transported there, and a small part of me will be forever disappointed that I haven't been. The other 'The Book' for me is the first book my husband bought me - a beautiful edition of The Hobbit, that included a recording by JRR Tolkien himself reading the part where Bilbo meets Gollum, a stunning map of Middle Earth and postcards with beautiful illustrations. Husband had wanted to get me a special first present, but was a little surprised when I burst into delighted tears and couldn't speak I was so overwhelmed. I knew for sure then that he was 100% the one for me.
  15. That sounds like the name of a band - a little bit folksy, a little bit punk!
  16. Oh Reading Mojo - Where art thou? It's been so long since I spent time with you. *sigh*

  18. Hello Hyzenthlay. Hope all is good with you. Big Hugs X

  19. The loo phrase is top of my flash card list of phrases (preferably without the flash!). It was the live version from the same concert. He is indeed a brilliant guitarist and moves the listener / audience in a way that other guitarists can only dream. Am now listening to Snow Patrol's 'Open Your Eyes'.
  20. Don't tell my Mum that! No, I think I'll cope with a few language specific flashcards and a good phrase book. We reckon that so long as we can count, say please, thank you and sorry in each language without having to look it up ,we will be able to fathom the rest as we need it. Having just listened to 'Private Investigations' live, I cannot move on without listening to 'Romeo & Juliet'.
  21. Magic Popsicle, absolute magic. I am listening to some Teach-Yourself-Italian c ds that my Mum has insisted I listen to for my 4 nights in Italy next month!
  22. I had my hair cut today. I usually keep it fairly short, but today I went super short. My instructions to my lovely, sweet hairdresser were to keep cutting it short and choppy! I LOVE IT! I always find it liberating to have super short hair, and it helps when I have a hot flush. Aside from that I am adding an 'extension' onto a shoulder bag, and hopefully meeting up with my niece and her family either today or tomorrow. Life is quiet but good for me right now, it gives me meditative times between the occasions that are more challenging. lol
