It would be nice to think people would have manners wherever they were. In my local Waterstone's I constantly hear people talking to staff in such a way that if it was said to me I'm pretty sure I'd be arrested:irked:. I'll stop before I go on a rant:). Anyway did she get a refund?

Well maybe not:) but I basically had a large list of books that I wanted and so I used christmas to get as many as I could:D Also I never really look at books in that way. It's the same with music, I don't have to be in a particular mood. I just enjoy music/reading.

I've been wanting to read War and Peace for so long now. The problem is i have so many other books on the go at once. I need to set myself a target of finishing what books I am reading and forcing myself not to pick up any more. Think if you are going to read such a classic you really have to give it your full attention. Of course this is just my humble opinion:)

I got the Trial for Christmas and I picked up Metamorphois at a second hand shop. I should be starting the Trial in the next few days.

Managing Your TBR Pile?

Pretty much at random, although new books always seem to grab my attention first. -
Swapping lives with a character

I would choose to be Daniel Sempere from The Shadow Of The Wind. Not because I would especially like to be Daniel but because He is friends with Fermin Romero de Torres, one of my favourite characters. To spend a day with him and listen to his forthright views on politics, women, and religion I think would be a very interesting day:D. -

I've had it quite a few times now with my loyalty card. I enjoy reading about future releases etc, but i'm not sure that i would pay for it. Sorry i am sure, I wouldn't:D -
Do you ever read the last page before the end?
Wonders disciple replied to Simonsays's topic in General Book Discussions
Well you learn something new every day. I never even knew this existed and that it seems to afflict so many people:lol:. It's not something i could ever do. I wouldn't see the point of continuing to read the book. -
How many chances do you give an author?
Wonders disciple replied to Ronny's topic in General Book Discussions
I would have to say i would give an author 2 chances. It would really depend on how bad the first book was. If it seems that there was potential and the author was recommended to me or highly thought of i would give them a second chance. -

How does your partner feel about your reading?
Wonders disciple replied to SaraPepparkaka's topic in General Book Discussions
My girlfriend does enjoy reading although not as much as me. I would like her to read more and so i bought alot of Tess Gerritsen and Stephen King books that i thought she may like and has started to read more. We both just read Cujo together which definitely seems to have pushed her on quicker than normal to finish a book. So hopefully this strategy works and we can read alot more in the future:) -
Never lied about what i have read. As has been said in earlier posts there may be a slightly less than flattering view of readers and maybe reading in general. So it seems rather strange that, presumably, these very same people should try to impress by lying about books they have read.

Hello. I have just got Noble House by James Clavell from the library. After reading some reviews on line, it was mentioned that it ties up some points from other books in his asian saga series. My question is, should i read these books in order or can i skip the first few and start with this one?. Thanks in advance.

A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini

Loved this book. Trying to get my girlfriend to give it a chance. -
I love my local library. I am always telling anyone who will listen, what a great service the library offers:). I often use the on line service to search for books and to request books from other libraries, which always arrive within a few days. My favourite way thugh is to go in and just browse the shelves trying to decide how many more books i can read at once lol.

I have this on my Christmas wish list. I just love the story of Scrooge, must have watched at least 10 different film adaptations and love them all.

Roasted red peppers are nice. So too is mozarella and olive oil, with maybe some basil.

Keeping a record of books I've read

Started using Library Thing a couple of months ago now. I love seeing my own little library on the scren. A bit of a nightmare going round the house trying to get all the numbers. but i'll get there. -
I love Sebastian Faulks and have read and loved all his other books. However i did not finish this book which is something i very rarely do. Engleby just didn't grab me at all. The book remonded me of Catcher In The Rye, which is another book i did not like. This in no way diminishes Faulkes in my eyes, he is still one of my favourite authors.
