  10. Wow, Shenzhen and Bangkok in two weeks... sounds amazing! You'll have to tell us all about it. After that it's back to the states, right? When will you be leaving?

We had the french reception 10 days ago, which was great :) But the true ceremonies will be in Calcutta in January.

  11. Hi! Just realized I never replied to that long message... I didn't mean to leave you hanging, sorry.

The appetizers definitely were yummy, now long eaten unfortunately. *laughs*

I hope everything's going well for you and Raja... Any relaxing holidays coming up?

Thanks, actually it's 3 weeks off, so... I should be ok *laughs* The flat hunting is crazy but I'm hoping to find something soon, now that I have more time for it.

That's great! Congrats on your new place! I'm sure you are having lots of fun decorating it. Full time job IS weird isn't it?

Hey! I'm good, thanks... Enjoying my first lie in in weeks and appartment hunting.

What about you? What have you been up to lately?

  14. I loved this book! I read and enjoyed The Eyre Affair years ago but never felt like looking for the follow ups. This one though, I look forward to reading further in the series. Like Chrissy I thought the idea was very well carried out, the characters are great, and it's such a funny read! The things that disapointed me though, was the ease with which Chymes was discredited... I thought he'd remain an important caracter in the series but it looks like he's already out... It just felt like that victory was too easy. But maybe he makes a comeback later on? Fforde might not have planned for a series from the start. Interesting, I didn't put that much thought into it. Just took it as a running joke. I'll probably have to re-read it more carefully at some point.
  15. It was great! Just got back... Not that exciting, but sooo relaxing! lounging in the sun, reading, kayacking and sleeping was all part of the program. Oh, and great indian food :D We're finalizing the preparations for my brother's french wedding reception (round 2/3 ) and had to taste Indian appetizers. Hard work! ;)

Your we sounds relaxing too... Must be nice after all that sightseeing you did lately, no? Hope Raja is feeling better!

    Have a great week!

  16. Thanks, should be great!

Have a great We too! Anything planned?

  17. Happy birthday Ben! :balloons:

  18. Ok, I need to read the full book and see what I make of them.
  19. It is! Can't imagine the same ending being written nowadays in a children's book... I just found it weird and amusing that the concept of morals has changed so much. I mean, the tales in themselves do sound very 'moralistic' (well, it WAS the excuse the authors had to use to justify their 'frivolities', according to the most interesting notes in my copy of Perraut's tales), apart from the ending which probably wouldn't seem child appropriate to most modern parents... It was the shortness of it which disapointed me. There wasn't much to go on. Well, I can't include all Disney movies, cartoons and series, or I'd never see the end of it I hope you can lay your hands on it!
  20. haha yes, ancient times! Thanks!
  21. Well, I just started this with Snow White. Here are my thoughts: Snow White by the Grimm brothers Snow white is one of those tales that we have all heard 100 times, but that I didn
  22. As far as I remember our house has always been full of books and as kids our parents always read to us, children's books but also personal favourites such as The little Prince, told us stories (my mum had an awesome story vase, in which rested two dragons, one red and one blue ) and took us to the library... So by the time we started school, we were all dying to learn to read. I've also had some great teachers, particularly one last year who held an english class based on several american novels around the theme of september the 11... We spent hours discussing and analyzing them through the light of different themes... I'd say that's what brought me back to full on reading and inspired me to join this forum
  23. Lovely shelves Chesilbeach... and so many of them! Kylie, I think I already said so the first time you posted photos, but your library corner is gorgeous! That chair looks sooo inviting
  24. It IS funny... from an outside point of view
  25. Exactly! Plus my parents aren't here, so they gave them keys... I was happily sleeping when I just hear this group of men valtzing into my home Fair enough. Though we're only hoping the fans won't take over this forum
