  1. There are nearly 800 individual episodes of Doctor Who, of which 108 are missing from the BBC archives. These missing episodes were destroyed by the BBC in the sixties and seventies before the value of the material was recognised. Film versions were simply thrown away, and those that were on video were recorded over due to the high cost of video tape at the time. All of the missing episodes are from the first two Doctors, with Troughton's episodes being the hardest hit. Audio versions of all of the missing episodes exist and have been released on CD by the BBC. Two parts of the Troughton story The Invasion were animated by Cosgrove Hall for the DVD release, but it is a costly process and further reconstructions are unlikely at this point. You can find episodes lists and details of the missing ones on Wikipedia.

  2. I didn't dislike Tennant, but I hated the way RTD treated the character from the end of series four through to the end of the specials - he was such a miserable ole ****** he just sucked the enjoyment out of the show! I think part of the reason I was so gob-smacked by Matt Smith is that he was a breath - no, a blast - of fresh air after a year of Tennant being all moody (and don't get me started on how they treated Donna in the finale, or Mr & Mrs Smith, or the resolution to the many Masters, or etc etc).
  3. It's rubbish. Really, they did the same things a year before and much better. RTD simply ran out of steam.
  4. There is a box set of all eleven Doctor's currently available, I would really like a 1st and 2nd Doctor (plus 11) but I'm not that bothered about the rest.

  5. I may be tempted to get a flight control version of the 11th Doctor's TARDIS, which I believe will be on sale later this year (I would also like to get Matt Smith Doctor as well, preferably with a fez and a mop - come on Character Options, you know it has to be done!).

  6. 'lo, fellow nerd!

    I have a few figures.

I'm not a collector, but I have picked up odd ones here and there that I liked (the 4th, 5th & 10th Doctors, K9 - ended up with an unwanted Rose with that, but she goes well with 10, I suppose! - and my personal favourite, a Weeping Angel).

I don't have the flight control TARDIS, but I do have a TARDIS money box, which is only slightly smaller, and doesn't look out of scale next to the figures.

  7. Books that made you... The Joy of Sex? Ahem . . . 1) One Book that made you read it More Than Once: Just the one? There are several I've read time and again, but the one I've read the most is probably The Day of the Triffids, by John Wyndham. 2) One book you would want on a desert island: The collected works of Shakespeare. I may actually get around to reading it, but if not I'll have plenty of fire lighters. 3) One book that made you laugh: 500 Mile Walkies, by Mark Wallington. 4) One book that made you cry: One Day, by David Nicholls. 5) One book that made you wish you had written: The Player of Games, by Iain M. Banks. 6) One book that made you wish had never been written: The Magicians' Guild, by Trudi Canavan 7) One book you are currently reading: The Hobbit, by that Tolkien fellow. 8) One book you have been meaning to read: Moby Dick, by Herman Melville. 9) One book that changed your life: Can't think of one that has, I'll get back to you!
  8. What is this "outdoors" of which you speak?
  9. What is a good way to browse? Act nonchalant. (but not too nonchalant, because you could be mistaken for a shop-lifter . . .).
  10. ^ It's in England, isn't it?
  11. Well, it made me laugh . . .
  12. 3D movies have been with us for a while now; from films that have had 3D versions created after the 2D process has been completed, like Clash of the Titans, to specially filmed 3D epics such as Avatar. TV manufacturers - no doubt keen to keep sales levels up following the switch to digital - are now starting to push 3D as the next big thing, so it's looking like 3D is finally here to stay. My question is, does anyone really want it? Do you think 3D adds or detracts from films, is it just a gimmick? Is it something you would want at home? (I was going to slap a poll on this, but I'm not sure what questions I would ask!).
  13. My local cinema seems to only show films in 3D even if there is a 2D option.
  14. If you've read the books that should be easy enough to work out, surely? Having seen the "In 3D" line at the end of the trailer I'm going to wait and watch this on DVD in good ole 2D. I already begrudge having to pay
  15. Does four hearts mean four out of five? It's been quite a while since I read it, nearly five years in fact, but I remember Monstrous Regiment as being one of Pratchett's most biting satires. Yes, it is funny, but I feel from your review that you are missing the wider point that war in all forms is ultimately pointless.
  16. Bit late in the day to be posting this, perhaps, but Big Finish are selling the first 50 of their old school Doctor Who audio adventures for
  17. I have a copy of Every Man for Himself that I really should get around to reading at some point.
  18. Obsession!
  19. I'm sure I've seen him somewhere before, Who is he?
  20. No, I've not seen it, but I will keep an eye on Film 4 for it.
  21. I'm pretty sure Flesh and Stone was in the first filming block, and that The Big Bang was in the last (I'm not 100% sure but the beach pictures from the Angels two parter were definitely some of the first pictures we saw of Smith as the Doctor, and the Stonehenge shots were some of the last to appear).
  22. Neither have I. (you really need a "spanked" in there to make that euphemism work!). I ever never have never ever kidnapped someone and held them to ransom for 20 bags of Marmite Cashew nuts. (I really hope someone will post to say they have!)
  23. Fixed!
