  1. I don't think it's a Mike Gayle book. It does sound similar to The To-Do List that I am currently reading, but that wasn't around five years ago, and wasn't an annual audit.
  2. ^ Black Books is good, Spaced is better!
  3. Oh noes, a professional! Run everyone! (Oh, and hullo, btw!).
  4. Have a good one sir!

  5. The title of the Christmas special, which is reported to be a Doctor Who version of A Christmas Carol, has been announced. It's called A Christmas Carol! Is it wrong to be excited about this already?
  6. Clive Cussler? It's been a while since I read either Clancy or Crichton, but I think his books are in a similar mould (action/adventure with a high-concept theme).
  7. Happy Birthday Noll! Hope you have a good one!

  8. Well I'm glad that's all finally cleared up, I'll certainly sleep better tonight! ;)

  9. Started The To-Do List, by Mike Gayle last night. Very good so far (the first page was great!).
  10. A Soaraway 3000 Strat-o-buster rocket pack, circa 2179. It's jet black with an attractive flame pattern extending down the lower casing. I got it from a time travelling monk I mugged (the sucker!). (Well, it's more interesting than saying I walk everywhere . . .)

    Happy Birthday Sah!

  12. Yoiks! (get an Elephant!).
  13. Very wise! Just finished Pavane, and I'm going to need to digest that one for a while. I have a sneaking suspison it's a lot more complex than it initially seems.
  14. Yep, four left standing, though things are going to have to go a bit wibbly for Lewis to win. I'm hoping Webber does it as well, but I'll also back Vettel over Alonso. That feels like a very long time ago . . .
  15. K-Y is a type of lubricant in the UK (and not one you'd use on your bicycle chain, if you catch my drift ...).

    Merlin

I think it being pushed back to 2012 is a result of Doctor Who being split in two next year.
  17. It will probably be a while before I get around to reading that one as I already have two other Murakami's on my TBR pile. I suspect "Ky" has different connotations in the UK!
  18. ^ Yep, you're gonna fit in here no problems at all . . .
  19. The series five box set that comes out next week has two shorts linking The Eleventh Hour and The Beast Below, and Flesh and Stone and The Vampires of Venice. You have to buy the box set to see them, or you could go here: Series 5 Linking Scene One Series 5 Linking Scene Two Both brilliant, but the second one is superb!
  20. I've been picking up odd copies as I see them second-hand and with todays copy I now have the first three books. If you are looking to buy them again, there is now a new omnibus edition that covers the first three or four novels.

    Bargain Books!

Waterstones have a 3 for 2 offer on all fiction again* Not sure how long it's going to last. *Doesn't include Childrens books, graphic novels or Manga.
  22. Rave? I'll start calling you Ky if you're not careful! (thanks for the explanation!). I came home with a frankie/Kylie-esk sized pile of books today: A Murder of Quality, by John le Carré The To-Do List, by Mike Gayle Magician, by Raymond E. Feist (all three for two at Waterstones) Hard-boiled Wonderland and the End of the World, by Haruki Murakami (I had a £5 off when you spend £20.00 or more voucher for Smiths, as I had £13.00 worth of stuff to buy this just tipped me over the qualifying line, almost a free book!). The Stainless Steel Rat Saves the World, by Harry Harrison (second-hand) and Drawing, A Complete Guide, by Giovanni Civardi.
  23. Not right now, but last night; the first episode of the new series of The Big Bang Theory on E4. Very funny, especially Penny tagging along for Sheldon's "date".
  24. Another? Are bookshows/fairs a weekly event in Sydney? (we only tend to get them once or twice a year over here!). One book? Okay, who are you and what have you done with frankie? I read a huge chunk of Pavane yesterday, and hope to finish it before I go back to work on Monday. Interesting book, a bit florid in places for my liking but I'm enjoying the overall story.
