  1. I'm sure you'll enjoy Moab is my Washpot, I loved it and agree that it seemed as if Stephen Fry was sitting there with you chatting about his life, enjoy! I'm halfway through The Fry Chronicles now and enjoying it very much. I have just ordered the Kindle from Amazon, just couldn't resist any longer!
  2. Good ideas for the motivation Frankie! If that doesn't work what will? I definately need to lose weight and most definately need support because I am a chocoholic I am going to do my best to resist eating between meals and I am going to get the Wii fit out of mothballs and I'll try to do at least 30mins per day on it to help burn some calories. Good Luck everyone who needs it.
  3. I also bought 3 books and downloaded to my PC, I haven't fully decided whether to buy the Kindle yet but it's looking very likely that I will and I got, The Lost Daughter - Diane Chamberlain, All The Pretty Girls - J T Ellison and Splinter - Sebastian fitzek all purchased for £1 each just incase! I'm thoroughly enjoying The Fry Chronicles - Stephen Fry over half way through it and loving it.
  4. Thanks Ben, I will definately let you know my decision when I make it, I'm trying not to impulse buy!
  5. I started and finished Letters From Father Christmas - Tolkien such a lovely book, I could imagine the childrens excitement at receiving the letters from Father Christmas, how special christmas must have been for them.
  6. Hi Ben, reading about your enthusiasm and other peoples comments and praise for the kindle have made me seriously consider buying one. I'd never considered one before but now I'm so close to buying one with money I received for christmas! I'm glad you're enjoying yours and I hope it helps your reading mojo to thrive.
  7. I'd had it waiting for months before I got around to reading it! I thoroughly enjoyed it from start to finish, I hope you enjoy it as much when you read it.
  8. I finished The Tenderness of Wolves - Stef Penney a beautifully written story. Now I'm about to start The Fry Chronicles - Stephen Fry
  9. Hi Weave I'm not too bad thanks how are you doing? I haven't read much recently but I've really enjoyed the books I have read.
  10. Thanks Charm, yes I did enjoy the Karin Slaughter books and I've got more of her books on the shelf waiting for me, I can't believe I hadn't read her before this! So many books, so little time. I`ll keep an eye open for that Erica Spindler book, I certainly do know how good she is, she hasn't disappointed me yet!
  11. Sorry your mojo has gone walk-about Charm, hope it shows up again soon. I've just started The Tenderness of Wolves - Stef Penney I haven't read much of it yet but it's looking good so far.
  12. I don't seem to have read very much in the past month, but I did read and enjoy: The Burning Wire - Jeffery deaver Another good Lincoln Rhymes story, I did find it tricky trying to follow all the electricity jargon, but it didn't spoil my enjoyment of the book. Blindsighted - Karin Slaughter Very good, fast paced thriller Kisscut - Karin Slaughter Another good read! The First Casualty - Ben Elton The first book I'd read by Ben Elton but it won't be the last. It was a fast paced story, set in WW1, quite sad at times but with a touch of humour as well. Well written characters and plenty of action. What to read next? that's the question!
  13. I'm so glad I spotted this review Michelle, I was looking at Room in the shop the other day and ummed and ahhed over it, now I've seen your recommendation I'll be sure to buy it. Thanks.
  14. I've read some of Ben Eltons - The First Casualty It's the first book I've read by Ben Elton, from the little I've read it seems very well written and I think I'll enjoy it. I've got a birthday coming up so thought I'd start a wish list, but so far I've only got Stephen Fry's autobiography on it! I think I'll have to search Amazon for more ideas.
  15. This week I have read The Burning Wire - Jeffery Deaver another good thriller with Lincoln Rhymes and Sachs. and Blindsighted - Karin Slaughter I enjoyed this thriller but I guessed the "baddie" much too early in the book. Now I'm going to start First Casualty - Ben Elton.
  16. Hi Ben With all your studying I'm surprised you're finding the time to read so much, I'm glad to see you enjoyed Ben Eltons The First Casualty, I've had it sitting on my shelf for quite a while might have to read it very soon now I think. I've been thinking of trying out audio books especially for listening to on my walk to and from work or in the evenings when I'm too tired to read myself, I have been put off by price but more so in case I don't like the person reading to me! I will give it a go one day though.
  17. It's always sad to see a bookstore closing isn't it? Having said that what a good haul you got, well done and enjoy using the book bag, you lucky lady!
  18. Just finished reading Blind Fury - Lynda La Plante another good book from her. I picked up The Burning Wire - Jeffery Deaver from the library so that's next, I've always enjoyed the Lincoln Rhymes novels so hope this doesn't disappoint.
  19. Glad you're enjoying our old friend! I finished The Shadow of the Wind and was going to start on my voyage of discovery with Karin Slaughter but... I borrowed Blind Fury - Lynda La Plante, from the library so I'm reading that first.
  20. The Shadow of the Wind - Carlos Ruiz Zafon from Amazon Hidden in the heart of the old city of Barcelona is the 'cemetery of lost books', a labyrinthine library of obscure and forgotten titles that have long gone out of print. To this library, a man brings his 10-year-old son Daniel one cold morning in 1945. Daniel is allowed to choose one book from the shelves and pulls out "The Shadow of the Wind" by Julian Carax. But as he grows up, several people seem inordinately interested in his find. Then, one night, as he is wandering the old streets once more, Daniel is approached by a figure who reminds him of a character from The Shadow of the Wind, a character who turns out to be the devil. This man is tracking down every last copy of Carax's work in order to burn them. What begins as a case of literary curiosity turns into a race to find out the truth behind the life and death of Julian Carax and to save those he left behind. A page-turning exploration of obsession in literature and love, and the places that obsession can lead. my thoughts A book that has everything. Suspense, strong characters, murder, mystery, romance and more! all wrapped up in the 403 pages of this beautifully written novel. I enjoyed every page of this book, some of the writing was wonderful, here's a little example: "A lineup of ladies with their virtue for rent - and a lot of mileage on the clock - greeted us with smiles that would only have excited a student of dentistry" I can't remember who on BCF recommended this book but I am very grateful to them. It is a very readable book and it's so easy to lose oneself in it's pages, as I said before it has just about everything. I'll definately be seeking out more books from this author. another quote from Shadow of the Wind that gives pause for thought I think...... "...Bea says that the art of reading is slowly dying, that it's an intimate ritual, that a book is a mirror that offers us only what we all ready carry inside us, that when we read, we do it with all our heart and mind and great readers are becoming more scarce by the day." I highly recommend this book.
  21. It's good to hear Blindsighted is one of your favourites, I'm looking forward to finding out just how good Karin Slaughter is. Happy to help! I'm so glad I was introduced to Erica Spindler she is very good and as you say it seems you can't go wrong with her.
  22. Thanks CW I'm sure you won't be disappointed with Erica Spindler, she is very good so enjoy! Thank you Frankie I'm ready to start Karin Slaughter, Blindsighted will probably be my next read, I went out with my list to make sure I got the order right! Hello Rose, Killer Takes All is the second book in the Stacy Killian series, the first book is See Jane Die. I particularly enjoyed Copycat and Breakneck which form another series. Erica Spindler has written quite a few novels as well. I would definately recommend you try her out.
  23. Killer Takes All - Erica Spindler Synopsis (from Amazon) When a friend is found murdered in her New Orleans apartment, Stacy Killian, a former Dallas homicide detective, suspects that the killing could be related to a violent fantasy role-playing game called White Rabbit. I really like Erica Spindler and find her books fast paced and exciting. This book didn't disappoint, there were lots of twists and plenty of suspects to keep you guessing, I did guess correctly quite early on, but enjoyed this never the less. An easy read - perfect holiday reading really, if you like thrillers. 8/10
  24. Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West- Gregory Maguire from Amazon. The novel that inspired the hit Broadway musical. When Dorothy triumphed over the Wicked Witch of the West in L. Frank Baum's classic tale, we heard only her side of the story. But what about her arch-nemesis, the mysterious witch? Where did she come from? How did she become so wicked? And what is the true nature of evil? Gregory Maguire creates a fantasy world so rich and vivid that we will never look at Oz the same way again. Wicked is about a land where animals talk and strive to be treated like first-class citizens, Munchkinlanders seek the comfort of middle-class stability and the Tin Man becomes a victim of domestic violence. And then there is the little green-skinned girl named Elphaba, who will grow up to be the infamous Wicked Witch of the West, a smart, prickly and misunderstood creature who challenges all our preconceived notions about the nature of good and evil. I read this a few weeks back so I'll just say that Oz will never be the same again! Giving us Elphaba's history is such a brilliant idea, the characters are well written and believable and the Land of Oz is shown warts and all! 8/10 Just One Look - Harlan Coben from Amazon Grace Lawson is living a happy, straightforward life in the suburbs with her husband, Jack, and two young children. But that security is about to come to a brutal end. For when Grace picks up a set of holiday snaps, amongst them is one shot that doesn't fit: a faded image of a life that Grace doesn't recognise and of her husband as she never knew him. Within twelve hours, Jack has disappeared, a brutal hitman is stalking her family and the safe world she knows has been turned upside down. And all Grace can see is that the past is coming back to haunt the present and people are getting hurt... I'm not sure why but it took me a while to get into this book,I think it was a bit "samey" at times, however once I did get into it I found it fast paced and easy to read. 7/10
  25. I know what you mean about that first chapter I really loved it and that side of Dexter, can't help but love him! Hope you're enjoying the rest of the book as well. Exciting news about your trip to Australia, I'm sure you'll be surprised at how smoothly the trip goes. (I don't like using the toilet on the plane but one time I had no choice and had to brave it, the good news is......... I survived the experience!)
