  9. New Pet This guy was lonely and so he decided life would be more fun if he had a pet, so he went to the pet store and told the owner that he wanted to buy an unusual pet. After some discussion he finally bought a centipede, (100 legged bug), which came in a little white box to use for his house. He took the box home, found a good location for the box, and decided he would start off by taking his new pet to the bar for a drink. He asked the centipede in the box, 'Would you like to go to Frank's place with me and have a beer?' But there was no answer from his new Pet. This bothered him a bit, but he waited a few minutes and then asked him again, 'How about going to the bar and having a drink with me?' But again there was no answer from his new friend and pet. So he waited a few minutes more, thinking about the situation. He decided to ask him one more time. This time putting his face up against the centipede's house and shouting, 'Hey, in there! Would you like to go to Frank's place and have a drink with me? - - - A little voice came out of the box: 'I heard you the first time! I'm putting my hmmming shoes on!'

  12. I thought this was really funny so I thought I'd post it here! This comes courtesy of Poppy! Grandma Writes She is eighty-eight years old and still drives her own car. She writes: Dear Grand daughter, The other day I went up to our local Christian book store and saw a "Honk if you love Jesus" bumper sticker. I was feeling particularly sassy that day because I had just come from a thrilling choir performance, followed by a thunderous prayer meeting. So, I bought the sticker and put it on my bumper. ... Boy, am I glad I did, what an uplifting experience that followed. I was stopped at a red light at a busy intersection, just lost in thought about the Lord and how good he is, and I didn't notice that the light had changed. It was a good thing someone else loves Jesus because if he hadn't honked, I'd never have noticed. I found that lots of people love Jesus! While I was sitting there, the guy behind started honking like crazy, and then he leaned out of his window and screamed, 'For the love of God!' and 'Go! Go! Go Jesus Christ, GO!' What an exuberant cheerleader he was for Jesus! Everyone started honking! I just leaned out my window and started waving and smiling at all those loving people. I even honked my horn a few times to share in the love! There must have been a man from Florida back there because I heard him yelling something about a sunny beach. I saw another guy waving in a funny way with only his middle finger stuck up in the air. I asked my young teenage grandson in the back seat what that meant. He said it was probably a Hawaiian good luck sign or something. Well, I have never met anyone from Hawaii, so I leaned out the window and gave him the good luck sign right back. My grandson burst out laughing. Why even he was enjoying this religious experience!! A couple of the people were so caught up in the joy of the moment that they got out of their cars and started walking towards me. I bet they wanted to pray or ask what church I attended, but this is when I noticed the light had changed. So, I waved at all my brothers and sisters grinning, and drove on through the intersection. I noticed that I was the only car that got through the intersection before the light changed again and felt kind of sad that I had to leave them after all the love we had shared. So I slowed the car down, leaned out the window and gave them all the Hawaiian good luck sign one last time as I drove away. Praise the Lord for such wonderful folks!! Will write again soon, Love, Grandma xo
  13. A friend of mine read this recently and when I asked if she was enjoying it she said she love it! but read the first four chapters through tears
  14. I've finished Grave Sight ~by~ Charlaine Harris yesterday. Synopsis courtesy of Waterstones Harper Connelly had a lucky escape when she was hit by lightning: she didn't die. But sometimes she wishes she had died, because the lightning strike left her with an unusual talent: she can find dead people - and that's not always comfortable. Everyone wants to know how she does it: it's a little like hearing a bee droning inside her head, or maybe the pop of a Geiger counter, a persistent, irregular noise that increases in strength as she gets closer. It's almost electric: a buzzing all through her body, and the fresher the corpse, the more intense the buzz. Harper and her brother Tolliver make their living from finding the dead, for desperate parents, worried friends ...and police departments who have nowhere else to look. They may not believe in her abilities, but sometimes the proof is just too much for even the most sceptical of police chiefs to deny. But it's not always easy for someone like Harper, for the dead *want* to be found - and too often, finding the body doesn't bring closure; it opens a whole new can of worms. I loved this book. It was a quick fast paced read and was really easy to get into. I loved the idea behind the story and it was plausibly written. I liked the main characters and the storyline unfolded brilliantly. Simple as that . I'm really looking forward to the next in the series. thank you Gyre for submitting it as a bookring, it was brilliant! 9/10
  15. These do look rather good Andaira, I think I'll wait to hear what you think of them first though, my wishlist is long enough!
  16. Tescos also do a very cheap range which is dishwasher safe, their economy range is about 3 for 80p or something. This is a great idea. I do something similar with stock. If I've made too much of a mince dish and frozen it, I would just lift it out of the freezer and zap it in the microwave until its defrosted. As long as you make sure you heat it thoroughly and keep it covered when reheating it. You don't need to defrost it first. The only cooked thing I defrost before reheating is chicken or a meat joint, everything else goes straight into the micro or if I've time the oven. Its just like using the store bought precooked meals, they are 'cook from frozen' usually. Yes rice, but like Nici I do it all the time! I always make loads of rice to reheat for future use, much quicker to just stick it in the microwave (Oh and apparently reheated battered products cause cancer, but I do that all the time too ) Buy an iceberg lettuce whole. Take off any spoiled leaves, wrap it in clingfilm then in tin foil (to keep it dark) and it will keep for over a week in the fridge. Just take off what you need at a time ... its also cheaper!
  17. Hiya  sorry to hear about Misty :friends0:

  18. I always use a 3 day rule for everything that has been opened. If you cooked the chicken at the same time as the sauce they will both keep for 3 days in the fridge, after that dump them. Do not however reheat anything more than once. I have never had food poisoning by my own hand and nor has anyone I have fed!
  19. Hey! :006: Sorry didnt get on last night, had to go out :irked: I'm dying to know how it went so will catch ya tomorro I hope!

  20. Very tidy Roxi! Psst! You're gonna need more shelves!!
  21. I don't think so burghead lass. If I remember correctly, any books of his I read were all stand alone novels. I don't think he wrote a series as such, mind you he might have done since I read his stuff but I believe the ones you have are all individual stories.
  22. Your cat bookmark is beautiful Gyre! Where did you get it? I want one!!
  23. I would like to see this at some point, only when its shown on tele though, can't really see myself going to the cinema to see it.
