Finishing a book... starting a new one
Colin Jacobs replied to paige turner's topic in General Book Discussions
I like to sit down, have a fag, a cup of tea and just think about the story and then I will write a review for Amazon and Play. Then I will start another Book. I only read one at a time. While I am unemployed I read all day if the weather stops me for going Birding or doing anything outdoors. If not I will read at night until the other guests have settled down to sleep which is normally about 2:30am.. -
No Time For Goodbye by Linwood Barclay
Colin Jacobs replied to Janet's topic in Crime / Mystery / Thriller
I found the book over rated and pretty much knew what the outcome would be quite early on. -
How was 2008 for you reading wise?

Then don't watch the film of Da vinci Code. The book is better read and in your mind than watching the very lame film. -
The most disturbing work of fiction that you have ever read
Colin Jacobs replied to Oblomov's topic in General Fiction
Domain by James Herbert. It hit home (Then) what could happen if the UK was hit by a nuclear Bomb. Otherwise i seem to have read fairly undisturbing novels. I am in the process of still choosing random books from the library so my next find could beat this one. -
Welcome. you wont get much reading done now you are a forum member. I was on here five hours last night:friends0:

I just cannot get into the humour. It is either going straight over my head or I am just not intelligent enough to "Get the Joke"

You should read the thread I started about how us Bookies are treated by the ignorant classes. I was always bullied as I was the quiet one in the corner reading a book, wether it was jealously or just that I was different I do not know but if I escaped to he school library they would gang up and pull the book from my hands crowd round and chant names at me. (Children can be so cruel) So at school and at work I either read in the toilets or latterly in my car, even then the others would lean out of the windows of the canteen and through stuff at my car. Why is it people just will not leave the book readers alone, even if I read in a cafe the local yobbos always make a beeline for me. showing off trying to disturb me. CJ. -
Swan song by Robert Mc Gammon. Best book ever.

I started with watchers but soon tired of his chase novels.( Baddy chases goody and baddy gets killed ) he seems to include family pets or animals in his books. I prefer his pre 2000 books. he uses less sex and voyersim and graphic violence than Laymon so I feel he is safe to read out loud to my blind female friend.

I have a phobia of American films, there humour is so wierd. Even serious thrillers look comedic.#

I think I have a quite belief in angels on my TBR I hope I might enjoy it. I read a bad review about Snowblind by P.J.Tracy but enjoyed the book it was an american review. It seems that tastes differ from us in the UK.

Marley and ME means the book is about Marley and and John Grogan. 3.5 million readers seemed to have enjoyed it. But I guess we all have different tastes.

I miss reading in the bath the home has a shared bathroom and there is always one muppet who wants to use the bathroom. Reading in public (In my town at least) seems to attract the yobbo's to snatch the book and fool around like snotty nosed little hoodlums, throwing the book from one Chav to the other -
1. My first Bully chased me around the playground jabbing a crayon into my back when I was three years old. 2. My parents bullied me throughout my childhood until I left home to get married. 3. I live in a 10' x10' room. 4. My whole life's belongings are in this room. 5. I am in love for the first time in 15 years.

I had a lot of stress in 2008 being bullied in my new job throughout the summer made me withdrawn and even more depressed. When I left the job in September and moved into the hostel I began reading again. mainly Pop Music autobiographies but I did discover Peter Robinson and started reading more Ian Rankin. I think 2009 will be the year I discover more new writers. -
Well I had a nice Ruby Murray home made with Pork, PM me for the other secret ingredients

Tabitha King's books. Too much graphic violence sex and swearing UGH! John Grisham. As soon as I found out he was a production line author. He was so wideley read that he could pump out any old rubbish made me think he was concieted. 48 By James Herbert A poor Chase novel. Chase Novels ie the goody running from the baddie and the goody wins. In a Buick 8 Stephen King. Just a load of words that did not make any sense.

Well being an enforced misanthrope I only read in Private so it is the Hostel's lounge when everyone is out or my room with my Dog beside me on the bed I do read at my girlfriends house while she plays inane games on the internet. -
I too have a pedigree Labrador, two years old, lamp black in colour called Sam. I named home "Senor Samuel order of Plover", after my driver when I was in Kenya. During the reading of John Grogan

Yes Island was very good I like Dean koontz but I dislike his "Chase" novels where the hero is being chased by a baddy. Liked "Watchers" he seemed to have Dogs in a lot of his books.

I am back into Pop Music autobiographys Just read Neil Diamonds which was written by someone else and it is really **** just a discography. Next up is Status Quo by Status Quo so should be better. Last year I read the Kenneth Willams Diaries and The Elton John one. Elton John was a spoilt brat and Williams and excentric all very enjoyable. I have a signed copy of Barbara Windsors autobiography as I was her late fathers carer when he lived in Lowestoft. She was normal and I could write a book alone with what she told me about the carry on days.
