  1. I'm only 62 pages in and I really love it so far. This is the only novel by this author, but already I'm wanting to read more of her work.
  2. Linger by Maggie Stiefvater Linger is the second novel of the Wolves of Mercy Falls trilogy. I think the title fits this story perfectly. I won't give anything away, but there are a few new interesting characters and some surprises. A must for fans of Shiver. (4/5) I picked up We Have Always Lived In The Castle by Shirley Jackson and The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield today at the library. I'm starting The Thirteenth Tale first.
  3. I read that production won't start until 2011. I just hope all involved are actually fans of the trilogy. I think that could make the difference.
  4. I read in the lastest issue of Entertainment magazine that there is going to be a The Hunger Games movie. Apparently, Lionsgate owns the rights, but no one has even been cast yet. I have to say I'm pretty excited about this.
  5. I love all types of classics that tell a good story, but prefer a bit of romance/love in them. Give me Austen or the Bronte's anytime!
  6. Oh good! I can't wait to read your thoughts on it.
  7. This looks really interesting. I added it to my wishlist.
  8. Austenland by Shannon Hale Jane is a thirty-something women who is obsessed with Pride & Predjudice and keeps the DVD (with Colin Firth) hidden. Jane inherits a three week trip to a fantasy resort called Pembrook Park where life is like a Jane Austen novel. Each chapter cleverly begins with a short synopsis of relationships with boyfriends from Jane's past. Austenland is a fun, romantic read. I just wonder if there is such a place. A must for Austen lovers. (4/5)
  9. Well, a lot of nothing happened except for ...means nothing to me. I have to admit that I scanned the last chapter, so I know the ending
  10. I tried The Elegance of the Hedgehog, but could not get into it at all. I got to page 114 and decided to put it down. So disappointed with this novel. So, instead I've begun Austenland by Shannon Hale
  11. Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins This is the final book of The Hunger Games trilogy. As predicted, I do feel a bit sad to have to leave these characters, especially Katniss and Peeta. Mockingjay has a different feel to it than the other two books -more dark. Things are topsy-turvy just like the mental status of key characters. The beginning is a bit slower than the other two, but it was almost like coming out of a state of confusion. All I can say is I love this trilogy. Considered YA novels, but not to be dismissed as such. The theme runs much deeper than violence. A must read for young adults and adults, male or female. There is something for all.(5/5)
  12. You did good. I've read To Kill a Mockingbird and The Hunger Games. Hope you enjoy them as much as I did.
  13. This is my current amazon.com wishlist. I actually got to delete some because I purchased them or checked them out at the library. The Boy with the Cuckoo-Clock Heart by Mathias Malzieu Room: A Novel by Emma Donoghue The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield Nevermore by Kelly Creagh Timeless by Alexandra Monir The Finest Type of English Womanhood by Rachel Heath Jane Austen Ruined My Life by Beth Pattillo Mr. Darcy Broke My Heart by Beth Pattillo Silk by Caitlin R. Kiernan Clockwork Angel (The Infernal Devices, Book 1) by Cassandra Clare The Moonflower Vine by Jetta Carleton Anthropology of an American Girl by Hilary Thayer Hamann The Earth Hums in B Flat by Mari Strachan The Country Girls by Edna O'Brien The Girl with Glass Feet by Ali Shaw I Am Not A Serial Killer by Dan Wells The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess
  14. I bought The Elegance of the Hedgehog a few days ago. After reading your review I can't wait to read it now.
  15. I had forgotten about that book, but it did stir up a lot of controversy at the time.
  16. I read an article on The Huffington Post website that listed surprising banned books. One was the Merriam Webster dictionary. Also, Little Women, James and the Giant Peach, and Brown Bear, Brown Bear What Do You See? just to name a few. Some of these were bans that occured this year.
  17. I finished Catching Fire today and have moved on to Mockingjay. Such an addictive trilogy! I bet I'll be sad it's over when I finish.
  18. Wow! This sounds really good. I'm going to add to my wishlist. Michelle, your so right about reading a book without preconceptions or even knowing much of a plot. That's the way I prefer to read most of my books.
  19. I have this on my bookshelf. I'm glad you liked it. I'll definitely have to read it soon.
  20. Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins Catching Fire is the second of The Hunger Games Trilogy and I thought was just as reviting as the first and at times very stressful. These books aren't just about violence and the "Hunger Games" but are about rebellion against a manipulative, all-powerful, cruel government. These books are so addictive! I've already picked up Mockingjay and will be starting it today. I can't wait to find out what happens!(5/5)
  21. I love Jane Austen but this quote does crack me up: Jane Austen, according to Mark Twain (1898) I haven't any right to criticize books, and I don't do it except when I hate them. I often want to criticize Jane Austen, but her books madden me so that I can't conceal my frenzy from the reader; and therefore I have to stop every time I begin. Every time I read 'Pride and Prejudice,' I want to dig her up and hit her over the skull with her own shin-bone.
  22. Yesterday was my birthday and I went out of town and allowed my self to get a few books. Heres what I got: The Elegance of the Hedgehog by Muriel Barbery Book of a Thousand Days by Shannon Hale Austenland by Shannon Hale Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins Linger by Maggie Stiefvater Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark by Alvin Schwartz (a childhood favorite.used to terrify me) These at a thrift store: The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants by Ann Brashares H. The Story of Heathcliff's Journey Back to Wuthering Heights by Lin Haire-Sargeant (might be blasphemy, but couldn't resist) For my baby: My First Halloween by Tomir dePaola two Mercer Mayer Little Critter books a Baby Einstein book I started Catching Fire yesterday.
  23. I've heard that too, but don't know since I've not read Battle Royale. Definitely read it though. It is addictive.
  24. Thanks for all the birthday wishes! It was a good day

  25. I just finished reading The Hunger Games and personally, I loved it. I'm going to get the rest of the trilogy as soon as I can.
