  6. Kylie, the writing was great, but I really wasn't crazy about the story. It was a little too depressing for me. Summer Sisters was my favorite, but Smart Women was good as well. I don't recommend Wifey! I remember really hating that one. Sadly this is the first summer in a very long time that Stephanie Plum is not apart of my summer reading list. For me the series just isn
  7. Revolutionary Road by Richard Yates Synopsis: In the hopeful 1950s, Frank and April Wheeler appear to be a model couple: bright, beautiful, talented, with two young children and a starter home in the suburbs. Perhaps they married too young and started a family too early. Maybe Frank's job is dull. And April never saw herself as a housewife. Yet they have always lived on the assumption that greatness is only just around the corner. But now that certainty is about to crumble. With heartbreaking compassion and remorseless clarity, Richard Yates shows how Frank and April mortgage their spiritual birthright, betraying not only each other, but their best selves. Courtesy of barnesandnoble.com Review: I found Revolutionary Road to be boring at times and just plain depressing! Had this book not been so well written I would have never made it past the first 100 pages. Im rating this book 4/5 because I did enjoy Yates writing style, and I would recommend it to the right person.
  8. I had a cheddar cheese burger on and English Muffin, corn on the cob, and a salad.

  13. Haha, it's a really impressive list isn't it Glad to have you on board, there are a lot of amazing reads and if you feel like it, do follow which books we are thinking about reading on this thread and join the reading group! Edit: I'd like to try and read LotR this summer and if anyone's up for that I'd be glad to have other people joining in! Absolutely! I would have loved to read theThe Polysyllabic Spree by Nick Hornby along with you all, but none of the libraries in my area had it. =(
  14. I enjoyed Marley & Me more than I thought I was going to. Very sweet and funny! As for the movie, if I plan on reading the book then I never see the movie first. Never! The book is usually always better then the movie and I like picturing the characters myself. I hate reading a book and picturing some movie star as the character. nicx27, I can totally relate. I read Forever when I was around 11 or 12 and I was in shock! Have you read any of the books she wrote for adults? I really enjoyed Summer Sisters and Smart Women. So far this week I've only read 130 pages of Revolutionary Road. Hopefully I'll be able to finish it this weekend because I'd really like to start Gone with the Wind next week.
  15. Thank you, Kenny and lovesreading! =)
  16. I originally saw this list on Kylie's Literary Adventures thread and was really impressed by it. I have never seen the show (even though its been recommended to me over a dozen times), but I've added a few of the books to my summer reading list anyway. I plan on reading Gone with the Wind, The Bell Jar and The Five People You Meet in Heaven.
  17. Marley & Me: Life and Love with the World's Worst Dog by John Grogan Synopsis: John and Jenny were just beginning their life together. They were young and in love, with a perfect little house and not a care in the world. Then they brought home Marley, a wriggly yellow furball of a puppy. Life would never be the same. Marley quickly grew into a barreling, ninety-seven-pound streamroller of a Labrador retriever. He crashed through screen doors, gouged through drywall, and stole women's undergarments. Obedience school did no good — Marley was expelled. And yet his heart was pure. Just as Marley joyfully refused any limits on his behavior, his love and loyalty were boundless, too. A dog like no other, Marley remained steadfast, a model of devotion, even when his family was at its wit's end. Unconditional love, they would learn, comes in many forms. Courtesy of barnesandnoble.com Review: This was such a sweet and funny book! I knew I’d probably enjoy this book because I love dogs, but I wasn’t expecting to be so touched by a simple story of a family and they’re pet dog. However, the story of the Grogan family’s love for Marley and the love that Marley had for them was so sweetly told that it completely won me over. Some of Marley’s antics had me laughing out loud and by the end I was sobbing right along with the Grogan family. I would definitely recommend Marley & Me to anyone who was looking for a light read that’s fun, sweet, and filled with lots of laughs. 4/5!
  18. On Saturday I finished Marley & Me by John Grogan and today I started Revolutionary Road by Richard Yates.
  19. I've been meaning to add Crazyheart to my Netflix queue, thanks for the reminder! This past weekend I watched Miller's Crossing and The Usual Suspects.
  20. Heather, thank you! =) kidsmum, absolutely! I usually always lose my mojo in the fall and then it would come back somewhere between December and February, but unfortunately that never happened this year. I was actually starting to wonder if it would ever return!
