  1. They should just be in Fantasy/Science Fiction, just like the Tolkien companion books, or any of the other sci-fi and fantasy series companions. It's still fiction, as it's made up.

    Happy birthday!!

  3. Uh, yeah, that's definitely not Non-fiction. I would also have a pretty low opinion of the management of the store.

    Google Today

Someone mentioned on FB that it's Google's birthday today, which could explain the balloons. I'm not sure if it's true, though.

    Google Today

    What's it for, though?
  6. Anthony Bourdain's 100th episode tonight. I think he goes back to Paris.
  7. I know! My boyfriend turns into an absolute baby when he gets sick, and always insists that his cold is SO MUCH worse than mine.
  8. Happy birthday!! :-)

  9. Happy birthday, Karen!!

  10. Yeah, my reading list is ridiculous. And that's only about half! The other half were ordered earlier. This week, I'm reading Remains of the Day. I also went out to Goodwill and picked up Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie, IT by Stephen King, and a bunch of travel books. Me is happy.
  11. This thread inspired me, so I snuck over to Goodwill today and bought $20 worth of used books.
  12. Happy birthday!!

  13. I received a huge portion of my Amazon order today: The Gashlycrumb Tinies by Edward Gorey (hilarious!) The Old Curiosity Shop by Charles Dickens Solanin by Asano Inio (I've already read it and it's incredible.) The rest of the order were books for my classes: Reading in the Dark: A Novel by Seamus Deane The Shadow Lines: A Novel by Amitav Ghosh The Karma of Words: Buddhism and the Literary Arts in Medieval Japan by William LaFleur Such a Long Journey by Rohinton Mistry The Untouchable by John Banville Midnight's Children: A Novel by Salman Rushdie The God of Small Things: A Novel by Arundhati Roy Good lord, that's a lot of reading for one semester!
  14. I definitely prefer used bookstores. I used to practically haunt the Half Price Books in the town we used to live in, but I haven't been able to find as good a place in our new town. Browsing a used bookstore feels like a treasure hunt to me, there's almost nothing I like better.
  15. Ghostbusters
  16. I'm planning on watching this week's Inspector Lewis that I missed, and then maybe veg out with some anime.
  17. My first copy of Dombey & Son was missing several chapters...and it turned out they were important ones! Instead, it just repeated the previous 200 pages.
  18. 1. I just bought a Holga camera online and I'm SO excited to start using it! I haven't done film photography in a while. 2. I love watching travel shows, especially Rick Steves' Europe and Anthony Bourdain's No Reservations. I'm watching Bourdain right now! 3. I can't imagine myself doing anything normal for a career. I would do nothing if I could. 4. I love, love, love, love autumn! It's my favorite season! I was so happy it rained the other day, I almost cried! 5. Grapes are yummy and people who don't eat them are weird. Of course, I won't eat peaches, nectarines, apricots, or plums because the skin is icky.
  19. Happy birthday!

  20. Yeah, we don't get anything guaranteed by law. But most people who work full-time get about 14 days per year.
  21. I like one that is completely ruthless, deadly, intelligent, and with a definite mean streak. I don't like my bad guys too watered down!
  22. Happy birthday! :)

  23. For everyone who made this possible.
