  1. Well there are the "usual" composers like Beethoven, Mozart, Tchaikovsky, Sibelius, some later composers are Barber, Karl Jenkins It depends on your personality really Kate. I am fond of piano, violin and the oboe and clarinet. I also like opera and ballet. The best thing to do is listen to Classic FM as an intro to classical music, then you can decide what you like and listen for the name of the composer and artiste/s performing them.
  2. Hi Paula, what do you think of the tennis so far? Andy Murray seems to be doing ok so far. Roger Federer is playing like a dream. BBC showed a short documentary of him called "The making of a champion" or something like that. It was really good. He was a proper firecracker when he was young and very spotty (tell Philip) Hope you are all well

  3. Hi there, thank you for asking me to be your friend WP. I used to have a friend who used to live near Hounslow. Hope you enjoy the forum

  4. That's a great profile name. Welcome to the forum, look forward to seeing your posts

  5. That works for us too on the rare occasions we have problems. The BT folk told us to do it.
  6. I am not sure if I have done this before, but here are 5 facts about me 1 I am a pensioner and love it. 2 I love being in charge of my life and time 3 I always give the impression of being "tough", but I can easily be hurt 4 I can be very outspoken and opinionated (not always proud of that) 5 I have a wonderful husband, lovely family and some very dear friends
  7. Years and years ago I used to read (wait for it!) Barbara Cartland. Yes I know loads of rubbish, but at the time I loved her!! I suppose it was that era's chick lit really. Anyway I have moved way past all that now I am glad to say and enjoy reading more challenging novels, with lighter stuff in between, as well as crimes and thrillers.
  8. I am nearing the middle of this book and I must admit I am wondering what all the fuss is about. Still, we will see, I have quite a way to go yet.
  9. I did a count today - 38!!

    Cricket

You certainly are not, I became a cricket watcher rather than "fan" when they won the Ashes a year or so ago!! Its much more exciting now than it was years ago. Certainly preferable to football. I also like watching rugby, now there's REAL men for you. Jonny Wilkinson way hay!!!
  11. I am fine thanks Nici. I havent got down to your Mum's blog yet, but will catch up later today. The wind is too strong to sit in the garden here, but I will be watching the tennis in a mo. Lots of love xx

  12. How are things Nici?

  13. you are funny. What do you think of Worthing? I think its pretty good. I dont go there that often. I also like Littlehampton, its fresh and open and a great IT area.
  14. You should try Worthing Library, or even Littlehampton!!
  15. Michael Connolly's The Poet Joan Collins biography (bought it years ago when I lived in Surrey)
  16. Middlemarch is a great read.
  17. Good Kate, although I keep getting interrupted and as the chapters are so long I have to work hard to pick the thread up if I stop in the middle of a chapter. I actually love this period, between the wars, some of the toffs were quite depraved
  18. I dont think you can ever go on enough about classical music, the pop stuff gets too much airing I think. One of the best film musical soundtrack was "The Ladies in Lavender", which I can watch and listen to over and over. Whenever I feel a bit wound up I play the CD of the soundtrack and it calms me down immediately. It also includes "Meditation" from the operate Thais which is one of my absolute favourite pieces.
  19. Repeated on "Dave" straight after the BBC2 broadcast I believe. Or there is always BBC I Player Kate
  20. Got to get through The House at Riverton first Laura, then Lost and Found, then The Book of Lost Things, not to mention Emma, the next Jane Austen book.
  21. I think she was confusing fiction with fact Ice Cream and in my opinion she should have stuck to one or the other. If she wanted to pay a tribute then write it as historical fact, not fiction and fail to give it proper drama and depth. As fiction it would have been a great story and may the ending could have been more positive. I do agree with you about bringing attention to the plight of these women having not choice but to follow the men. I too feel great respect for women who can go through what they did without complaint and without receiving any support just being left to get on with it, something most modern women do not have to even think about.
  22. Progressing with The House of Riverton okay, it reads well so far, but I have to keep my wits about me
  23. Well it certainly sounded like a good read and this latest story is set in Brighton, just down the road from me. I will have to wait until the paper back comes out though.
  24. Anyone heard of this author. He has a new book out and I thought it sounded like a good story. Cant remember the title though, sorry
