  2. i'm up to the 5th harry potter-definitely not going to make my goal of reading the first 6 before the 7th comes out- i've enjoyed all of them-i think they're so popular because of the fantasy aspect and that harry is a kid who's been put through alot and people respond to that- carm
  3. doctor who- i've read most of stephen king's books and out of all of them my favorite is the stand- it's long but its so well written i think you'll enjoy it- carm

    hi laura and welcome!!!!!- carm
  7. elbereth- i couldn't agree more with your asssessment of and the band played on- what struck me most about it was the absolute ignorance and stubborness about the american government when the AIDS epidemic was first diagnosed- im a social worker in a day program for people with HIV/AIDS and we lost two clients this week to AIDS related causes- sometimes its really difficult to work here but most of the clients focus on the positive things the people we lost havedone in their lives rather than focus on their passing- carm
  8. the one book i remember not finishing is iberia by james michener- it was just tedious -carm

  12. eleberth- i read and the band played on and i cried my eyes out too- i work with people who have HIV/AIDS and the book just begins to cover what my clients have gone through and continue to go through- so much has changed since that book was written -new meds, increased life expectancy- it really is a great book overall- carm

  14. my favorites of his are the stand and the green mile-the only thing of his i refuse to read is the book he wrote when the blasted red sox won the world series in 2004- as a life long devoted yankees fan i just can't bring myself to read that- carm:irked:
