  1. Hey Susie :friends0: How are you these days? Busy by the sounds of it! Nice to read you again. Hope all's well with you and yours. Trish, always using the lovely dachshund bookmark you made for me x

  2. From the reviews I've read I'm drawn towards The 19th Wife.
  3. Oh YES! Read it! Read it! I *love* this book- - one of my all time favourite reads and authors.
  4. Ha Ha. And I thought it was *me* who had lost the plot! I was attracted to this adaptation by the appearance of Rupert Penry Jones as, in my humble casting opinion, a rather weak Hannay. As I watched I kept thinking "Well, I don't remember this??? Don't recall that either! W-H-A-T??" I'm now going to reread the novel which I've been meaning to do for some time now. Hope I can find one without those silly TV characters on the cover.
  5. Little Dorrit is one of my faves.
  6. Another pretty little avatar :)

  15. Bwah-ha! That's how I read too. I always have to delve into a new book soon as it's there in my hands even if it's just a few pages. Lately I have been attempting to exercise a disciplined approach and have divided my reading into tbr piles of genre or author. Then there's discussion reads, recommendations, the challenges on here. . . . ps That's an astounding list, Kylie. I'm well impressed.
  16. I read this last year too and agree with Ruth though I could understand Bruno's naivety in not knowing what was going on. I could see where it was all leading a few chapters in but still wavered. Maybe I'm hard hearted but I thought the ending just desert even though it chilled me as does the whole Holocaust issue. I won't be seeing the movie.
  17. Thanks, Kylie. My first review ever and someone read it I'd be very interested to read your thoughts on this book when your done with it.
  18. Hi. I LOVE your avatar. Sloths are so cool. They're one of my favourite animals.

  19. Hmm, I'm thinking of joining this challenge. For 1900 I was going to choose Ethan Frome. Then I was drawn to The Secret Garden or The Wizard of Oz. Next I looked at Lucky Jim. Then I followed Kelly's link as above and Eureka! I'm going with this one by Anthony Hope "Captain Dieppe" Can't think why Like it's not as if it: reminds me of anyone in particular or anything like that
  20. We by Yevgeny Zamyatin. Blurb on the back: The citizens of One State live in a condition of 'mathematically infallible happiness' D-503 decides to keep a diary of his days working for the collective good in this clean, blue, city state where nature, privacy and individual liberty have been eradicated. But over the course of his journal D-503 suddenly finds himself caught up in unthinkable and illegal activities - love and rebellion". I came across this book via an online reading group who were nominating books for a Russian genre read and have to say I really enjoyed it. The story is told by the protagonist D-503. He lives in the One State, an urban civilisation constructed of glass where everything is based on primitive mathematics. Sleep times are measured out for each day and citizens are given mates by schedule and the issue of pink tickets. Trouble begins when D-503 falls in love. Higher mathematics take over, he loses the ability to differentiate between reality and dreams, chaos ensues, he begins a descent into near madness and has to be saved by the Great Operation. Try it.
  21. Well, no need to 'fess up to how I've spent my day then....and there was definitely not an iron in sight....
  22. Ha Ha. You sound like me! I hate to hurt or kill anything. Oh dear, I was only teasing, sorry. Here :friends 0: I'm sure the bug is just fine. They are quite resilient. Such a pretty colour it is too . . even with a squashed antenna. Ah well, 'cpect it's been eaten up by a co-creature now so don't worry. :an8:flowers2::out:

  23. Why, thank you. I just love Johnny Depp. Do you like Helston?

  24. Hiya Sedge and thanks for the friend request :) Sorry to say I'm not a football fan. I did see your post on forum that you were up at Poltair Park awaiting the Mousehole Team. Will you be in the Cornishman then? Are you Cornish? I'm not. Just lucky enough to live here.
