  1. That's me
  2. Hey haven't seen you around for a while. Happy Birthday :) Hope you got lots of books!!

  3. What am I doing way down here on page 3?? Oh well time I updated I guess. No time to read lately However I did finish Music Theory for Dummies which was fab, very accessible and enjoyable. OK I did skip one chapter which was so referential I thought I'd come back to it later when I need to. 3/4 through Far from the Madding Crowd (It's great!) and I haven't touched Informal Logic for weeks. I won't start any more fiction til FFTMC is complete and no more non fiction til IL is complete.
  4. Happy birthday!!

  5. I used to give up on books regularly when I was younger, just out of laziness really. I am a lot more perservering now, but have no problem giving up on a book I really am not enjoying. Time is precious, and I have little spare time as it is. It's a no-brainer for me.
  6. Have a lovely day Saturday!! :friends0:

  7. Chickens can't fly
  8. Shepherds pie tonight. With baked beans probably.
  9. Happy birthday Alison :) Many Happy returns

  10. I don't blame you. It's monumental!!
  11. I agree. Ewan McGregor was tipped for it. I think he'd have been much better. While reading Far from the Madding Crowd I'm kind of picturing Catherine Zeta Jones as Bathsheba.
  12. Well I am tearing through the music theory book, so much so that I am now thinking of buying a keyboard and learning the piano I will give it a month or two though - I have been known to do things on a whim and then get bored after 5 mins Informal logic has taken very much a back seat, even though I was enjoying it, it just can't compete with the other two I'm reading. Far from the Madding Crowd is great, though I feel I am making slow progress with it. I think I may have bitten off more than I can chew having 3 books on the go
  13. Tonight we had roast dinner actually the roast dinner we were supposed to have yesterday but were just too darn tired to cook when we got in. Lamb escalopes, roast potatoes and parsnips, peas, green beans and gravy.
  14. How about veg chilli with rice? Fry onions in oil, add any veg you like, mushrooms, celery, capsicums, zucchinni (whatever) add some chopped fresh or dried chilli, a pinch of toasted cumin seeds, tin of chopped tomatoes, some cooked kidney beans or haricot beans (or any beans you like) simmer for 20 - 30 mins, season with salt and pepper and finish with a handful of chopped coriander leaves. Serve with rice. All in one pot if you swap the rice for bread! ETA I forgot to say, add some garlic in with the onions if you like
  15. I love mushrooms but I'm still not tempted The only time I ever saw them was in a service station on the way from the euro star to Paris. They were piled in a bowl alongside the salad bar and just looked like, well, a bowl of snails :-S
  16. I don't believe you Wow - can't believe you've tried snails but not beans.
  17. I know - I'm trying to keep track of the TBR this year - with a starting size, a finishing size and low and high 'tide marks'. Its already grown Looking forward to the Shakespeare. I think King Lear will be first in the queue, Othello has been on my wish list for ages. Thanks I'm looking forward to '5 people'. I intend to read it next I think. Look forward to comparing notes then
  18. Never. It would ruin a good book for me. However, if I was really not enjoying a book, but was vaguely interested in what happened in the end then I might be tempted. I haven't yet though.
  19. I didn't mind it. It was OK, watchable. It could have been better if hadn't have got so sentimental. It was an interesting idea, I'm not sure about the casting of Ricky Gervais though. I'm not sure what he added to the film.
  20. Hi and welcome
  21. Hmm, those sound interesting - adding to the wish list.
  22. welcome
