  1. Loving google today!!
  2. Thanks for that, that's very Interesting. If OH does have an old DG lying around then I might be tempted to pick it up. I am getting a bit more into fantasy thanks to him. I'll let you know how I get on
  3. I've never read any but OH used to read a lot of his stuff I think. He's probably got some on his bookshelf I could pilfer if you recommend them, although I'm generally not much of a fantasy reader. I am however loving Robin Hobb's Farseer trilogy and I enjoyed Harry Potter. The excerpt you linked to does sound very full-on fantasy
  4. We recorded it. Looking forward to checking it out.
  5. I'm currently reading the third in the Assassin's trilogy and loving it. So far I've loved all of these books. Going back to them is like going back to a familiar world and meeting old friends. Looking forward to reading all the other trilogies and books too I agree she is a really good writer, and creates credible and quite detailed worlds.
  6. All the time! I find it a lot with non-fiction, of which I mostly read history and science. I think it's just harder to absorb facts and jargon.
  7. I've been looking for a cheap copy of that book for years. I've never read it but I have I remember being a small child and my older brother read it and raved about it and ever since then I've wanted to read it.
  8. Hi an welcome. Great story - we love that kind of thing here
  9. Our council is really good. They collect recycling every week, general waste fortnightly, and garden waste and cardboard fortnightly. We have a wheelie bin for general and one for garden and cardboard. Food caddy waste goes in the outside food caddy bin and all other recycling goes in a rain-proof box with a lid. The council is great, the neihgbours however do occasionally put their rubbish in our bin which really aggravates me, especially as we had a collection refused once with a note on it because a neighbour had put drinks cartons in our bin which they don't collect.
  10. I really enjoyed Rendezvous with Rama and Childhood's End.
  11. Finished Silver Birches yesterday which I quite enjoyed, will write a full review later, and started Assassin's Quest by Robin Hobb. I knew I'd enjoy this (I already am) so I picked it to revive my dwindling mojo. I'm craving escapism at the moment and this will be just the ticket.
  12. Started listening to Middlemarch on audio today, read by Harriet Walters. So far so teensy bit dull.
  13. Finished listening to my Sherlock short stories on audio yesterday. It was great. Delightful stories excellently read by David Timson.
  14. Ooh I'm half way through that. We started watching it Sunday night and hopefully will finish it tonight. I went to see A Woman In Black on the weekend. I thought it was OK. It has a slow start but does pick up towards the end. There's a lot of Daniel Radcliffe sitting alone in a creepy old house hearing spooky noises and not so much dialogue. But it wasn't bad. Very spooky that's for sure.
  15. I agree. I think I'm going to ditch 'Think' but maybe pick up the William Dalrymple one again later. No Flowers is still on my bookshelf but I'll probably get to it this year. I started Silver Birches by Adrain Plass last night, and it was a blessed relief to be reading something thoroughly enjoyable again.
  16. Well I'm fed up of both the books I'm reading at the moment, so I think I may cheat and start something new Not sure what though...
  17. Ah yea, I loved the Wonder Years! I'd forgotten about that. I also loved Moonlighting GBH (although it was a self contained story so I'm not sure how you'd bring it back) The Riff Raff Element
  18. Oh I would LOVE Blake's 7 to come back They did start to repeat it on BBC2 about 10 years ago but then stopped without going through the whole series I seem to remember. I'd love to watch either repeats or a remake, or preferably both
  19. Congrats Kell, that's a great feeling. My jeans have also been falling off me lately, and I really need to get some new clothes. Unfortunately I sprained my ankle a couple of weeks ago and haven't been able to go to Zumba or the gym. I've been for one swim, and now I have lurgy so I can't even do that. I also ate an enormous cream doughnut yesterday. I need to seriously get back on track.
  20. Finished listening to the first Sherlock Holmes short story yesterday, The Adventure of the Speckled Band. It was really good Enjoying this audio book a lot
  21. Welcome
  22. Great reviews Paula, Sunshine sounds great! Might have to put it on the wish list
  23. Finished God of Surprises last night (a re-read I started last year) I don't think I actually ever finished it last time round as the end of the book was all very unfamiliar - but very good, as the author talks about his own struggles here, which was very interesting.
  24. Hope you enjoy it Laura. I thought it was great This morning I started listening to my Sherlock Holmes audio book (short stories). I think I'll enjoy it. David Timson's narration is great.
  25. 'Gusev' by Chekhov? it's just a short story and it doesn't contain the direct quote but has seagulls and a ship and the line "The sea has neither meaning nor pity".
