  1. Sedge, I can understand where you're coming from with the liking for set routines, as I'm the same and I hate change. I do have some OCD traits, but I manage to keep them under control and thank goodness they do not encroach on my reading habits at all. Yes, but I try not to tell anyone. Seriously, when I read about your one-chapter limit, Pratchett was the first author I thought of. So do you have to set yourself a limit of a certain number of pages instead?
  2. Terry Pratchett's Discworld books don't have chapters! So Sedge could sit down and read the whole book in one go.
  3. Sedge, I am interested in why you set yourself this limit - why do you only allow yourself to read just one chapter? Is it to make the book last longer, or possibly an OCD thing? (I mean no offence here, BTW.) I'm afraid I could not do that, especially if the chapter ends on a cliff-hanger, as most tend to. It would drive me mad having to put the book down at an interesting point, just because I've read one chapter! Can I suggest you start reading Terry Pratchett books, if you haven't already? That would solve your problem!
  4. I was very saddened and upset to hear this news. Poor Terry.
  5. I didn't think this week's episode was quite as good as usual, even though there were some laugh out loud moments. I did laugh at And was that Eliza Dushku (Faith from Buffy)playing the model? It certainly looked like her, but I didn't notice the names in the opening credits.
  6. Hear hear Sedge!
  7. Adam, a very good point. I completely agree.
  8. Don't forget The Shawshank Redemption! I loved The Long Walk, and like you Chicken, it stayed with me a long time after I read it.
  9. It took me a long time to get into Lisey's Story. I didn't really care for the main character, which doesn't help! It did improve about halfway through, but it was still mediocre at best.
  10. What Kell said! I agree with everything she said. (Are you reading my mind Kell?) I started with Mort, so I was going to say Mort or Guards! Guards!, the first in the City Watch sequence. As Kell said, the Colour of Magic and The Light Fantastic are the weakest and also my least favourite.
  11. It's all a bit of a minefield with the spoilers! I just err on the side of caution, I guess. I watch Ugly Betty on C4, and tend to use spoiler tags just for those people who might not have seen this week's episode yet. However, Muggle is at least one (and possibly two) episodes ahead of terrestrial Brit viewers, so I guess he uses spoilers for that reason. (Although it only helps if idiots like myself don't click on the spoilers like I did this week!! )
  12. I totally agree with you princessponti, about it having a heart and all the best programmes being able to make you laugh and cry. There were some really funny bits last night. My favourites included
  13. The Running Man (the book) is very good and gets much more into the emotions and motivations of the characters. I really enjoyed it. The film is pretty rubbish in comparison, so don't let that put you off!
  14. Gah! I just read Muggle's spoiler (believing it would be about something else!) and it wasn't and I wished I hadn't! Well it was my own stupid fault! Tonight on C4 we've got the one with Posh Spice, which should be a laugh.
  15. Damn! Well OK, I'll settle for Richard Armitage then. Or Sawyer from Lost.
  16. David Tennant was a bit of a surprise choice, DWMG. Anyway, you can't have him because he'll be at my dinner party!
  17. Definitely over 1,000 - in fact probably over 2,000 because I very rarely get rid of any books. Unfortunately, due to lack of space, most of them are packed away in boxes in the loft and cupboards etc. Even my six-shelf bookcase is now overflowing, and the shelves are double stacked!!
  18. Kirstykat, I know what you're saying, but IMO there's nothing wrong with reading something simple or reading just for pure enjoyment. It doesn't always have to be about expanding your mind or your vocabulary.
  19. "Snark"? What does that mean? (Sorry for being a bit dim!) BTW, I'm a female who definitely doesn't understand the shoe/handbag fetish every woman is supposed to have!
  20. And people complain about Andrew Lloyd Webber musicals!!
  21. Wow! I vaguely remembered hearing the title before, but it just seemed so appallingly awful I thought it must be made up for Ugly Betty.
  22. Talisman, you're a woman of taste! I'm also enjoying Robin Hood, or should I say enjoying looking at Richard Armitage as Guy of Gisbourne. Phwoar! *ahem*
  23. Oh b***er! Sorry Nici. I know it's too late for you now, but I'll go back and put spoilers in. I thought 'cos it had aired on terrrestrial it would be okay. Sorry.
  24. This week's episode was really good! I loved Unfortunately, the sandwich guy is becoming more and more creepy. I don't think the guy who plays him has got it quite right - he's too menacing. I can't stand to look at him. *shudder* Oh yeah, I may not like him but That made me laugh out loud. And is Wicked a real musical?! If it is, it must be the worst one in existence judging by the terrible singing and lyrics. If it isn't, no doubt someone will be producing it soon!
  25. I never miss Home and Away either! Or Neighbours... ahem...
