Btw Muggle, the sandwich guy was not in the last episode I saw, so I'm now wondering if you're two episodes ahead, not just one? The last one we saw was the one where Hilda was socialising with the widowed ladies, and she finally noticed Justin was going off the rails, and where Marc was lusting after the underwear model.

I'm glad you enjoyed it Janet! Do you think you will read the other two, or is one quite enough?

Heroes (last week's episode in the Bennet house was amazing) Strictly Come Dancing Ugly Betty Doc Martin Robin Hood (mostly for Richard Armitage, I have to say! ) *Waiting impatiently for Lost to begin again*

I've just finished this today, and agree with everything Kell said, except that I would definitely give it 10 out of 10! I thought this book was superb, and definitely my favourite of the Tiffany Aching books. It was wonderful to see Granny Weatherwax and Nanny Ogg back in their double act. All the characters are wonderfully drawn - for me it's lovely to return to these familiar faces. Whilst these characters keep their comforting familiarity, others change and grow, notably Tiffany and even Rob Anybody. But, as ever, my favourite thing is Pratchett's humour. The Nac Mac Feegles are as hilarious as ever, and Horace the cheese cracked me up completely. Even the throwaway bit parts are hilarious, such as Anoia, goddess of things that get stuck in drawers(!). This is one of my favourite Pratchett books ever. I can't praise it highly enough. Top notch Pratchett.

Oh no. Oh well, at least I'm prepared.

I agree with Angerball. I try to keep my books in as pristine a state as possible.

The latest episode was really good. There were some hilarious bits, especially with poor Alexis. It was nice to see Victor Garber as the writing tutor, though I kept expecting him to whip out a gun and kill someone (I'm used to seeing him in Alias as Sydney's dad). And no sandwich guy! Hurrah!

I thought that too, but I didn't say as I didn't want him to get big-headed.

I think Betty and Daniel should be together!!

I don't like used books at all. I'm too fussy about how I look after mine, so used ones are invariably not up to my standard! I don't like the smell of them, and I don't like dirty or turned-down pages. I never go in second-hand bookshops. I don't even use my library! I prefer to buy my own books to keep in a pristine condition. Yes, I know I am too fussy! The only second-hand books I possess are ones I have been forced to buy because they are out of print.

Oh, good - hopefully he was a one-off.

Yeah, Henry has always been pretty attractive! They've just stuck some unflattering glasses on him, but if you look past those he is rather dishy.

I don't like hardbacks, they are too heavy and they're too expensive. Plus, they take up more space on my bookshelf! I did buy the Harry Potter series in hardback, because I couldn't wait for the paperback, but that's really the only culprit and I won't have to worry about that one any more. I was tempted by a half price Pratchett "Making Money" the other day, but I resisted. It seems to me (at least in Pratchett and King's cases) that the hardback goes into paperback after about a year, whereupon the new hardback is released. It's quite a long time to wait.

Daniel is rather cute! I didn't like the sandwich guy in last night's episode - I thought he was rather creepy. I hope he's not going to be a regular character. The bit with Amanda on the red carpet was very funny!

Thanks for that cheery thought. But you're right, I've heard good things about it and I really must get around to it (after I finish the three books I'm currently reading ).

If I had an unread Terry Pratchett, it would be that. Otherwise, it would be my lovely hardback copy of Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell, which a friend very kindly sent me from the USA, no doubt at considerable cost. I feel guilty that I still haven't read it, despite wanting to. I suffer from painful wrists, and the size and weight of this book has put me off, but if I was dying anyway then my wrists wouldn't really matter!

A strange and somewhat morbid question

I think that needs a thread of its own. -
I see you've gone mad on graphic novels all of a sudden!

The whole "leaving books unread" thing has occurred to me too, the last time being yesterday, funnily enough! (Hammy, are you reading my thoughts?!) Anyway, I recently resolved that it would be sensible to always read the books I most want to read first, and leave the ones I'm not so bothered about for later. (This is like the "favourite food" principle - have you ever saved the favourite part of your meal for last and then been too full to eat it? The horror! I only did this once. Never let it be said I do not learn from my mistakes.) As for where I would like my books to go, I guess it would be my ex-primary school for the kids/young adult ones, and possibly my library for the others? (That's if I get the job there I went for, if not they can whistle for the books. ) -
I agree - if I'm browsing for books by unfamiliar authors, it's the title that catches my eye first. Reading the blurb and then looking at a random page or two to gauge writing style will decide whether I buy or not. To be honest, the cover doesn't really come into it. Whilst a nice cover is good to have, a terrible one won't stop me from buying.

Karen, I think Muggle is an episode ahead of us. The character he mentions comes in next episode, apparently. Episode 2 was another good one! I liked Amanda with the dog! And Mark was actually nice (once) to Justin!! Mark is so funny -

That photographic cover for The Colour of Magic looks very stylish, but I don't know... it just seems wrong somehow for Pratchett. I think the cartoony style of Kirby fits so well with Discworld.

It was a very good first episode (sorry Scottishbookworm!) The bit
