Sodden wet, windy day from start of finish at the U'19s game today....and the score was awful. They were playing the game to sort out the A & B leagues....they lost 2-10...! Played awful and they can't blame it all on the weather. 3rd choice goalie but you can't blame it all on him either. So looks like it will be the B league for them this season again. Hopefully they can finish top...we can dream.

Oh bit of an up down start for you then. Andy has managed a few games for Glendale, before the 19's started but that will be it now as he will be concentrating on the coaching again, unless they have a free Saturday maybe. Here a season of lots of goal scoring for our lads both north and south...

So the season has started....last weekend. Sorting out the leagues...Culter Colts now U'19's. Groups of 4 to sort out A & B league. They lost 5-0 to an A league team from last year, so no surprise. They had a great game today...local derby against Culter Boys's U'19s and won 3-1. Played well and worthy winners. So Sedge has St Austell the mighty started a new season?
  4. Oh Chrissy move it up your TBR list. I'm positive you will really enjoy it... I thought I was being a bit unkind Janet, so I am glad I'm not alone in what I thought. I couldn't just put my finger on what it was I didn't like. Possibly just getting to the point of the whole story just seemed to take too long. (Robert, the dad goes missing is basically what it is all about, apparently). Well obviously if you recommended it Hayley I was going to like it wasn't I... Oh and thanks for the heads up on a new one....must go see what it is all about.
  5. I have just finished the lovely book 'The Language of Flowers' by Vanessa Diffenbaugh. (one of my best reads this year). Starting 'The Time Keeper' by Mitch Albom
  6. 'The Language of Flowers' by Vanessa Diffenbaugh Amazing how you can read a book quickly when you are really enjoying it. I loved this read. A new author for me and I hope her next is as good. Victoria, our protagonist, has had a difficult life, in and out of foster care. In time Elizabeth takes her in and slowly Victoria begins to trust her and she teaches Victoria all about flowers and their meanings. Victoria slowly learns that she enjoys learning about flowers. With the hope of Elizabeth adopting her, life is looking better, but events turn against her. Once again she is on her own and takes refuge sleeping in the public park. Flowers still very much part of her life and she starts to plant a small garden of her own. Eventually her talent is spotted by a local florist and she discovers that she has a gift choosing the right flowers for others. She has a chance meeting with a vendor at the flower market and they form a distant relationship. In time she has to face up to her past and how to try and put things right, but again circumstances get in her way....can she get a second chance? A beautifully written debut novel and I loved how well researched it was for the 'language of flowers'. I so wanted it have a good ending and I think Vanessa Diffenbaugh delivered. 5/5 (recommend)

I hope it's over by now, sorry you had it on your holidays :(.

  10. 'Instructions for a Heatwave' by Maggie O'Farrell I have enjoyed Maggie O'Farrell reads in the past but I think this was my least favourite. Given that subject was about 'finding' Robert who had gone missing, for me it took far too long to get the point of it all. I didn't find the characters overly compelling either I'm afraid. I had higher hopes for this book I'm afraid. 2/5

And so the training has started....Andy and Culter Colts will now be in the U'19's league....here is hoping they have as good a year as last. It could be tough though as there will 17, 18 and 19's in the teams....hope they settle down to it quickly once the season starts properly mid August.
  14. I I've had it for a while...Kay sent me it so feel I shouldn't be too rude and leave it any longer...
  15. Where do folk dream up the titles for their books....
  16. Finished 'The Forgotten Garden' by Kate Morton and going to start 'Instructions for a Heatwave' by Maggie O'Farrell
  17. 'The Forgotten Garden' by Kate Morton Phew...that was a big read but I got there in the end and overall and enjoyable one. The tale takes place over 1913, 1975 and 2005 and each chapter goes between each and the different characters, Nell, Eliza and Cassandra. Nell being the main character and who the mystery unfolds around, abandoned overseas in Australia but not remembering much about how she arrived there apart from 'the Authoress'. Who is she and why does she remember her? In time she travels back to England/Cornwall to find out the truth about who her parents were and hopefully why she was sent away, and buys a cottage. After her death Cassandra, Nell's granddaughter discovers she has inherited Cliff Cottage, which is in the grounds of Blackhurst Manor (where lies the Forgotten Garden). Will this uncover the mystery of the past gone by and answer the intriguing questions of her grandmother's past? I cannot divulge....you will have to read it to find the answers. The chapters intertwined with the mystery and characters. A little twist towards the latter part of the book I wasn't expecting, but added to the storyline. All in all I good read, but I found it a little too long. 4/5

I too watched the Davis cup over the weekend...awesome games. Loved the doubles......not the Bryan Bros, but the Murray Bros... Thought out Mr Andy have lost it though in his final game...what an athlete to dig deep and actually come out and win it. I was tired for him...so emotional at the end and such a relief for him and the team...bring on the semi finals...they have done so well to get there. Wonder if they will go back to Glasgow for it?

Hate when it is quite one sided final. I'm sure tomorrow's men final will be a longer match....hope it goes to at least 4 sets (or Fed wins in 3, if not). Just waiting for the men's doubles final now.

    Rest in Peace

Oh I know.....I used to wonder who my mum was on about this Omar guy. One of her favourites and then I say Dr Zhivago....he had those eyes to get lost in....so sad he has passed.

Yip....come on the doubles. I sooooo hope they can pull out a win, they have played great matches and put out previous winners. Wonder if Andy will sneek in and watch his big brother. Shame the womans final couldn't get to a 3 setter. Would have liked Serana have had to fight it out....she does annoy me.....! Garbine Muguruza did so well to break her in first couple of games. I was getting so fed up of Inverdale, McEnroe and Davenport commentating.....good god there was another girl actually on court playing you know...it was just all about Serana and her bloomin record attempts. Nearly put the telly on mute at one point. Gutted Murray couldn't get a set off Fed yesterday, but when he is playing like that nobody has a chance...(maybe not even Djokovic tomorrow...!)

I enjoyed the womens footie....made a nice change. They all did very well....was a bit gutted to see the England girls miss out on the final (yes a Scot saying that about England), they were so unlucky. Well done getting there though.

I so thought Novak was going out...wish they didn't have to stop last night...grrrr. Anderson so nearly managed it. Serena was very sporting in her interview after too. Heather could go far in the future, I believe she is only 21? I thought Serena was very sporting too in her interview saying how Heather should have won the game. Heather did amazing didn't she...I was watching it on my own and yelling at the telly....if she had managed to get that 4th game in the last set I'm sure she had the beating of her. I'm sure her time will come further on down the line. She can only getting stronger. I have been enjoying the men's tennis though, and as per usual Andy takes a tough route in one of the games. See how he gets on tomorrow....(well I hope !) I hope it is just a 3 setter...! I watched the end of the doubles with Jamie Murray last night and tonight...they have done so well too knocking it previous winners. We had a bit of a blip with the coverage up here today though in Aberdeen (we have a Sky dish) and the signal went as we were having monsoon weather on and off all afternoon.
  25. I remember we had to read this at school. Always remember it being a bit doom and gloom at the time, but now appreciate what it was all about. I have seen it done as a play too which was very good.
