  1. Loved the last two episodes too. Haven't read the books, don't think I could read them. Wonder how long we will have to wait for the next series.
  2. as above...(again)

Settling down for Wimbledon now....Andy through first game comfortably too...well done.
  5. Just read your review of 'the Bees' not a book I have come across, but was drawn in by the title....since I have lots of buzzy bees in the garden just now...
  6. 'Pandora's Box' by Giselle Green Rachel, a mother, is having to come to terms with having a terminally ill daughter, Shelley. Shelley has a plan for her (potentially last) birthday. She wants to go to Cornwall. Rachel's mother, Pandora, gives her a box of belongings from her and her sister's past, which opens up a lot of memories she has locked away, but now has to deal with and confront her sister Lily with truths they both have to face up to. I found the characters a little uninspiring at times and the storyline a little drawn out and for me the conclusion was a bit disappointing and as if the author wasn't quite sure what ending to give it...I think I was expecting a bit of a dramatic ending, it was nearly 'too nice'. I don't want to say anymore without giving spoilers. Easy enough read but not one that will stay with me or the characters. 3/5

Fantastic tennis final today at Queen's with Andy Murray and Milos Raonic...could have gone any way at one point. Great achievement Andy being the first to win this 5 times...great stuff.
  9. Thanks Athena...her name almost makes me think I have read her before, but none of the titles I checked on rang any bells with me. I have also abandoned 'Life After Life' by Kate Atkinson....just wasn't enjoying it and was too much of a long read to persevere with it and not enjoy reading.
  10. 'The House We Grew Up In' by Lisa Jewell The Bird family, Lorelei, her husband Colin and their four children seem like a normal family and they have a lovely life in the country but due to a tragic event that happens one Easter Sunday, their lives will never be the same. In time the children seem to push what happens to the back of their minds and they all move away from home. Lorelei becomes an extreme hoarder and it isn't until she passes away and the family reunite to sort out the family home that the truth eventually comes to light. I thought this was an interesting theme for the main character that I hadn't come across before. I don't want to say much more without giving anything away. Admittedly all the characters are not without faults, but we find out on the journey what has made them the way they are and why. I'm not sure I have read Lisa Jewell before but I enjoyed her writing and wouldn't dismiss trying another of her books. 4/5
  11. Been struggling to get on with Life After Life ~ Kate Atkinson.....too much jumping back and forward and can't/couldn't get to grips with it. Thinking I might just abandon now, but too long since I picked it up to read.
  12. Sometimes you just need a bit of fluffy frothy nonsense...I picked up a couple this week too.
  13. cold...hot....cold...hot....hot...cold etc... you get the idea
  14. Enjoying 'The house we grew up in' by Lisa Jewell Oops...went in to a local café to me that has shelves of books for swapping. The idea is you can take one if you replace with one of your own....so I did, but came out with two...need to take another one in...any excuse for a scone and coffee while I browse. 'The Beach Café' by Lucy Diamond '6 Rainier Drive' by Debbie Macomber (a Cedar Cove one)
  15. All these books you are listing and I haven't heard of any of them...
  16. 'Sing you Home' by Jodi Picoult Another controversial read dealing with a divorced couple, religious beliefs, gay rights, fertility issues and loss and the unborn children waiting at a fertility clinic. The inevitable dealings of civil rights and courtroom scenes is par for the course with a Picoult book, but I enjoy when she adds in the odd twists in the later part of the book. Max and Zoe are divorced but each are given a chance at a new life, but the consequences of their 'unborn' child(ren) and the choices they have to make will be decided in court....will it be the right choice for one of them. 3/5
  17. Postie man rang the door bell this morning with a parcel....thought to myself I hadn't ordered anything etc....opened it up and I was lucky enough to receive a signed copy of 'Daughter of the House' by Rosie Thomas She was doing a giveaway on Facebook....first 5 people to PM with their address....just happened to see the post at the right time and sent her mine... Nearly finished 'Sing you home' ~ Jodi Picoult
  18. Goodness me...what a long list of read books...I have 8...
  19. I find it so frustrating when I desperately want to read a 'good book' and then get in to it and can't finish it quick enough to get on to another.
  20. Love your review on 'Ice Twins' and I know where you are coming from with that...it annoyed me greatly in places, but I had to finish it.
  21. 69 read...oh my...how do you read them so fast...
  22. Oh I loved the Little House books when I was younger....I devoured them I seem to remember. I was possibly given one for a present and then more at the library. Glad you are enjoying them
  23. Hoping it doesn't disappoint Little Pixie.... Thanks...just started a Jodi Picoult...'Sing you Home'...so far so good. She always draws me in to her books, so fingers crossed.
  24. Hi Julie...only read 8 so far. In the middle of Life after Life, but have put it aside just now, wasn't holding my interest. Trying to choose my next read.
  25. 'If My Father Loved Me' by Rosie Thomas Not an overly riveting read, but wanted to finish it. Believable characters, but it was a bit repetitive I found. Expected a bit more, but not sure what. I didn't know what to expect given the title. Sadie's father is dying and she always felt there was something she didn't know and felt he didn't love her more. She eventually finds out what it was when her son befriends an old lady who comes to the funeral who knew her father....there is more to tell than she could ever have known. 3/5
