Great stuff from Andy Murray at Queen's....if he plays like that at Wimbledon he is in with a great chance.
  4. I've seen folk on Goodreads and Facebook have enjoyed this one Hayley. So I said to myself only read one book at a time....lasted one day...! Have now started 'The Forgotten Garden' by Kate Morton...and it is a big read....600+ pages...(oh dear)..going to be good though.
  5. A bookie friend handed me a book over today... 'Secrets of the Lighthouse' by Santa Montefiore. Have there been any of you read this one....sure I mentioned it might be a good read, but can't remember where I saw it.
  6. I'm sure just the titles and authors would be fine Janet and if you liked or disliked...we don't mind...sometimes I don't know what to say in a review either.
  7. Finished 'Gold' by Chris Cleave....I enjoyed this sporty themed read.
  8. 'Gold' by Chris Cleave As a sporty minded person I enjoyed the Olympic theme to this book. It isn't really about sport as such but three like minded athletes trying to win their way to gold medals in cycling and the ultimate 'gold' at Olympics 2012 London. It doesn't center around the games as such but how their lives link up through a coach, Tom. Hard training and dedication being a way of life. Jack, Katie and Zoe work hard to get to their dream, however life gets in the way...friendships and relationships are pushed to the limit. Parenthood comes in to the scenario too and a sick child, Sophie and how they have to deal with a life threatening illness. I did enjoy this read....loved the insight into the hard training and endurance these athletes put themselves through to reach 'gold'...it doesn't always come true and it must be heart breaking. Strong, likeable characters and Chris Cleave I feel researched it well from the athletes point of view and Sophie's illness. I have read 'The Other Hand' by Chris Cleave but this is a totally different read.. 4/5

  11. Hoorah....a book I have wanted to get a hold of as I've heard good things about it. Managed to get a RISI for ..... 'The Language of Flowers' by Vanessa Diffenbaugh
  12. Reading 'Gold' by Chris Cleave one I got a few years back, meant to read it after the Olympics were on in London as that is a theme through it, re two women cyclists....enjoying so far.
  13. Just off to look out my next read.... 'Gold' by Chris Cleave
  14. I'm sure somebody on one of the bookie forum thingies on Facebook had read Nightingale and said it was vg....
  15. Hoorah....finished 'Constance' by Rosie Thomas and this takes me in to double figures....10 books read this year...pathetic...
  16. 'Constance' by Rosie Thomas Another enjoyable Rosie Thomas read. Two sisters, Connie a 'foundling' adopted by Jeanette's family. One man, Bill, who Connie falls in love with but unfortunately she cannot have as he is Jeanette's fiancé. There is betrayal and Connie departs and makes a life for herself elsewhere in Bali. Years later Jeanette contacts her to tell her she is dying. Connie knows she has to return to put things right between them. The added extra story of Noah, the son and Roxana (from Bokhara, Uzbekistan) was intriguing too, wasn't quite sure what the outcome of that was going to be, but in the end Roxana is the one that helps Connie in a round about way. I especially enjoyed the part when Roxana takes Connie to the 'hammam' and Connie experiences an overwhelming sensation of release of pain, anger and grief which helps her come to terms with what has gone on in her life. A sensitively written book bringing things together between the past, present and forgiveness. I enjoyed the descriptions and rituals of the Balinese culture and the way it helped Connie, Jeanette and Bill come to terms with the inevitable. 4/5
  17. Ok....I will attempt, in no particular order of preference....and these are but a few that I felt were worthy of putting on my list. No doubt there are a good few more titles and authors not listed here...eg Jodi Picoult, Maggie O'Farrell, Maeve Binchy, Kate Atkinson. The books listed are probably there because after reading they stayed in my mind/heart for a good while for one reason or another. To Kill A Mockingbird ~ Harper Lee Chocolate ~ Joanne Harris The Red Tent ~ Anita Diamant Still Alice ~ Lisa Genova Harry Potter series ~ J K Rowling The Midwife's Confession ~ Diane Chamberlain Tuesdays with Morrie ~ Mitch Albom Birdsong ~ Sebastian Faulks Emotional Geology ~ Linda Gillard The Shell Seekers ~ Rosamunde Pilcher

Yeh...we reckon us and Stonehaven are owed points too...time will tell if we actually get them or not.

So the update re U'17's Sedge....sorry for the delay. So the last game that was due to be played was Stonehaven v Kintore on Saturday.....except it never happened!!!. Andy got a call from the Stonehaven manager to let him know that Kintore had conceded the game..! It is a bit of a distance between the teams for travelling and I guess because the game didn't actually mean anything to them points wise is why they did it. But it would have finished it all off. Bit annoying too as the points haven't been added on to us or Stonehaven for the games that haven't been played out, so the table looks unfinished. At least we are still on second in the table, but joint, but at least we won one more game than Stonehaven... . Our own fault for not getting that win/point on Tuesday last week. The league as it stands/finishes. Played Won Drawn Lost Points ALC Rangers 18 14 2 2 44 Culter Colts 17 12 0 5 36 Stonehaven YFC 17 11 3 3 36 Kintore Utd 17 10 1 6 31 Culter Boys 17 6 2 9 20 Cove BC Utd 18 2 1 15 7 Ellon Meadows 18 1 1 16 4 Will post again if we hear any more about our points situation.
