  1. A few of the singers that I have enjoyed over the years. Not for you young'uns. Louis Armstrong George Jones Marty Robbins The Everly Brothers Rpy Orbison Don McClean Judy Garland Willie Nelson Ray Charles Patsy Cline Frank Sinatra Buddy Holly
  2. Tonight at a restaurant we had, for dessert, lemon ginger pound cake with a big scoop of ginger flavored ice cream. First I've had ginger ice cream, it was good.
  3. Well, you got part right........Southern U.S. But Tobacco Road is North Carolina and in particular Duke University and University of North Carolina. Others that count are North Carolina State and Wake Forest University. The best basketball in the U.S. is played in this area. Others may argue, but they probably haven't seen how basketball should be played. Joanne McCallie, the coach of the Duke University women's team said that she is so happy to be a coach in North Carolina because the people are knowledgeable and excitable about basketball and it is constantly in the news media.
  4. LOL, let me further confuse you. The best teams come from Tobacco Road, at least IMHO.

    March Madness

Few of you outside the U.S. will recognize this as a major sporting event. However, in the U.S. it consumes most sports fans. I was fortunate enough to go and see a couple games in the first round last night. I seen Texas beat Minnesota and also seen Duke beat Binghamton. Duke really looks good and is a possibility to go all the way in the Big Dance. For sure they are one of the top 5 teams of the 64 entered.
  6. This is funny. http://video.yahoo.com/watch/4533761/12145597?v=4533761
  7. My favorite is Teaberry. However, homemade vanilla ice cream made with the old fashioned crank freezer and then with homemade peanut butter sauce cooked on the stove and served warm over the vanilla is pretty hard to beat.
  8. Rutherfurd's epic has to be The Rebels of Ireland and The Princes of Ireland. A 2 book epic that was great reading.
  9. Welcome. have you tried any of the Stephen King books. There are a lot of readers here that enjoy his books.
  10. These are two separate questions: 1. What do you normally have for breakfast? 2. What is your favorite breakfast?
  11. Chili over pasta is good.
  12. News that you don't want to hear.
  13. The book was the type that makes you sorry that you finished reading it, it was so good. Amazon.com's editors selected "Peace Like a River" as one of the top 4 books in 2007. Leif Enger's 2nd book "So Brave, Young, and Handsome" was selected as one of the top 7 books in 2008. We will be hearing more from Leif Enger I believe. I am amazed that so few people are aware of his writing even though he is new on the scene.
  14. Are you finished yet?
  15. hehe, love your snoopy stuff. How is the book coming along.
  16. I have read all of Clavell's Asian series books and enjoyed them all except Whirlwind. It is always best to read a series in order but in this case it may be ok to read Noble House first. Clavell was a great writer and one of my favorites. His movies were also great. btw, his daughter once appeared in a movie that is one of the all time running series, 007. I rented the movie The Great Escape when my GD was visiting and she went crazy over Steve McQueen and asked me to get her other Steve McQueen movies for her birthday. It was a great movie, btw. The Asian Saga consisting of six novels: King Rat (1962): Set in a Japanese POW camp, 1945 Tai-Pan (1966): Set in Hong Kong, 1841 Shogun (1975): Set in feudal Japan, 1600 Noble House (1981): Set in Hong Kong, 1963 Whirlwind (1986): Set in Iran, 1979 Gai-Jin (1993): Set in Japan, 1862
  17. Glad that you are enjoying the book. Don't you just love the little girl and her poetry.
  18. I didn't think I was revealing too much, just enough to get your interest. My apology.
  19. We went to the grocery store yesterday evening and bought 2 half gallons of ice cream. They were on sale, buy one and get one free. We got 1 of Peanut Butter Cup and another of Chocolate Fudge Chunks. Both were pretty good.
  20. And what is your next couple reads. I hope it is something that you really enjoy.
  21. I was hoping the library may have it for you. However, whenever and wherever you can get a copy, I have patience. When I enjoy a book that I think my friends may also enjoy I sometimes get carried away as I want them to have the pleasure of reading it.
  22. Louiseog and Poppy, let me know how you like the book. When we 3 finish it maybe we can recommend it to the reading group, that is if we all enjoy the book. :) Oh, and if both of you actually read "Peace like A River".
  23. And, what are you reading now. I may get out my switch. After all, you promised.
