  1. A person on this forum was making a few posts on another forum and some of the members attacked her. I defended her and decided to check out the forum where she regularly posts. and it was here. Oh, how time flies.
  2. The best ice cream is made at the Penn State Creamery. Browse the list of their flavors. They come from all over the world to learn how to make ice cream the way it is made at Penn State. My favorite is still teaberry, I would walk many a mile for it. http://creamery.psu.edu/Default.htm
  3. One of David Baldacci'S most enjoyable books is "Wish You Well", however, it is not like most of his action packed writings. This book will make you laugh, make you cry, make you sad, make you happy, in other words will take you through the whole gamut of emotions. poppy also read the book and enjoyed it. maureen has promised to read it.
  4. In last night's episode a major, major, occurence happened with one of the starring women characters.
  5. Go back a number of pages. There are a few peanut butter ice creams. Also, homemade peanut butter fudge sauce topped on homemade vanilla ice cream is absolutley wonderful. Nothing beats homemade vanilla ice cream.
  6. James Lee Burke is the best IMHO. Once you get hooked on him it is difficult not to read everything he has written, which I have. His books keep you engrossed and makes you want to keep reading until the book is finished.
  7. Haven't any of you tried homemade ice cream. The kind where you crank and the ice freezes it.
  8. James Lee Burke, one of my favorite writers, lists his selection of the "Best Mysteries of All Time": http://www.parade.com/parade-picks/2009/04/james-lee-burke-favorite-mysteries.html Books A Master's Choice of Mysteries James Lee Burke, best-selling author of more than 25 novels, most recently “Swan Peak,” was named one of the 2009 Grand Master recipients by Mystery Writers of America. Here are his picks for the best mysteries of all time. Ron Hansen’s Mariette in Ecstasy is a masterful metaphysical story dealing with the stigmata. Ultimately, it’s about a woman who represents courage and altruism in the midst of mediocrity. James M. Cain once said his stories were about the ultimate human tragedy—people getting what they want. Double Indemnity, a 1930s murder mystery involving an insurance fraud scheme, exemplifies his best work. Mr. Majestyk, by Elmore Leonard, features a farmer who runs afoul of the Mob. It’s one of the best portrayals of professional criminals I have ever read and a beautiful accomplishment in terms of dialogue and style. Selected Tales and Sketches is a collection of Nathaniel Hawthorne’s stories, perhaps the best allegories ever written about the nature of good and evil. The city of Los Angeles is a protagonist in The Black Echo, Michael Connelly’s superb tale about Vietnam vets pulling off the score of scores. Connelly writes with the knowledge and experience of a hard-nosed police reporter, but he’s also an artist. Cormac McCarthy’s No Country for Old Men deals with evil that seems to have no origin. The writing is spartan, the imagery and dialogue as clean as razor cuts in leather. The story seems derived from the collective unconscious; it is frightening and unforgettable.
  9. At least there are two people that understand my sense of humour, besides Poppy that is.
  10. To be successful in any field, generally, takes talent of one kind or another. It would be unrealistic to think that everyone liked Susan Boyle and her singing. Some of us liked her and some did not. Comparing her to other singers is alright but remember, it is just one person's opinion and we are permitted to have different tastes. I greatly dislike rap and "hip-hop", others do like it. I find it best not to disparage someone for having different likes than me.
  11. Well, I certainly don't agree with your way of thinking AND your opinion of Susan. I believe you are greatly misstaken and I think that Susan will receive some voice training and do very well for herself in the music field.
  12. Muggle hurries to look at RoxiS profile for a photo.
  13. Yes you are, picking on me. Let me ask this. How many people do you know that look like Susan Boyle that are very popular singers. I know of few or none. I really don't believe its her looks, she can sing very well and has no training yet.
  14. Disagree with her having an average voice. She will be making a recording in the near future, I am sure, and then we will see how well it sells. Besides, it takes more than just a voice to be a great singing artist. Frank Sinatra did not have a "great voice", but how he delivered the song was was head-and-tails better than anyone else. On the subject of looks, Britney Spears can't sing at all and if she looked like Susan Boyle she would be working at McDonalds.
  15. Susan Boyle.......A Star is Born. She is absolutely amazing. The girl can sing, what a voice. Anyone that enjoys music cannot help but like her singing and she is a Princess on top of it all, with her personality.
  16. Do you think I would like the books. You have a handle on what some of my reading likes are.
  17. When we moved I gave away most of my LP's, more than 50 of them. Many were very old but I found that they aren't worth much money. There were quite a few that I got from my parents when they passed away. I'm talking of LP's from the 1930's and 1940's. I have a phonograph that is hooked up to my stereo and infrequently play some that I kept. Actually some of the LP's sound very good.
  18. Nice menu. I also like kielbasi. Halupkies is the Ukrainian term; galumpkies the Polish term. No matter what they are called, I love them.
  19. Most of our grocery stores has Breyers on sale this week for Easter. Buy one and get one free.
  20. What are you having for Easter Dinner We will have: Traditional honey baked ham home baked beans potato salad pickled eggs (hard boiled eggs marinated in a crock for a couple days with beets and the beet juice) I love to eat the pickled eggs with horseradish.
  21. Edy's makes a nice one called Coconut Pineapple
  22. I get most of my music from the library. If they don't have what I want I request that they purchse it. The libraries of most cities in the U.S. have a fairly big collection. Another souce of music is the College and University libraries. Another off-topic....My GD is working part time at the Museum in New Orleans while she is attending school for a semester at Tulane University. The N.O. museum has probably the largest Jazz Collection in the World.
  23. No, what I said was that good and bad music is somewhat opinionated. Music that I "enjoy" or you "enjoy" is another matter. I don't enjoy Rap music in the slightest but I am not saying it is bad music, just that it is not for me. I think that the artists I listed are great. However, they may not be liked by all and it doesn't mean they are good or bad, necessarily.
  24. It isn't always a matter of "knowing" what is good and bad (opinionated) but mostly a matter of growing up with and being exposed to certain music.
