HEHE - I like this one. The train was quite crowded, so a U. S. Marine walked the entire length looking for a seat, but the only seat left was taken by a well dressed, middle-aged, French woman's poodle. The war-weary Marine asked, "Ma'am, may I have that seat?" The French woman just sniffed and said to no one in particular, "Americans are so rude. My little Fifi is using that seat." The Marine walked the entire train again, but the only seat left was under that dog. "Please, ma'am. May I sit down here? I'm very tired." She snorted, "Not only are you Americans rude, you are also arrogant!" This time the Marine didn't say a word; he just picked up the little dog, tossed it out the train window, and sat down. The woman shrieked, "Someone must defend my honor! Put this American in his place!" An English gentleman sitting nearby spoke up and said to the Marine, "Sir, you Americans seem to have a penchant for doing the wrong thing. You hold the fork in the wrong hand. You drive your cars on the wrong side of the road. And now, sir, you seem to have thrown the wrong b***h out the window."

Crabs And The Blonde Flight Attendant A lawyer boarded an airplane in New Orleans with a box of frozen crabs and asked a blonde stewardess to take care of them for him. She took the box and promised to put it in the crew's refrigerator. He advised her that he was holding her personally responsible for them staying frozen, mentioning in an arrogant manner that he was a lawyer and threatened what would happen to her if she let them thaw out. Shortly before landing in New York, she used the intercom to announce to the entire cabin; "Would the lawyer who gave me the crabs in New Orleans, please raise his hand?" Not one hand went up.......... So she took them home and ate them. There are two lessons here: 1. Lawyers aren't as smart as they think they are. 2. Blondes aren't as dumb as most folks think.

I just checked the library and they have two copies (kindle format) of I Am Messenger available. However, I am close on the waiting list for The Giver and don't want to put a hold on I Am Messenger until I read The Giver and another that I have on hold (The Target by David Baldacci). I am really anxious to read The Giver. The Giver, the 1994 Newbery Medal winner, has become one of the most influential novels of our time. The haunting story centers on twelve-year-old Jonas, who lives in a seemingly ideal, if colorless, world of conformity and contentment. Not until he is given his life assignment as the Receiver of Memory does he begin to understand the dark, complex secrets behind his fragile community. Lois Lowry has written three companion novels to The Giver, including Gathering Blue, Messenger, and Son.

Thanks ladymacbeth. I appreciate the feedback. Now, I am even more anxious to read the book. The movie of The Giver has just recently been released. I am number 24 out of 193 on the waiting list for the kindle version. The library has 23 copies so I should get the book shortly.

Has anyone read The Giver by Lois Lowry. I have it on hold at the Library and am highly anticipating the book. Amazon gave it high marks. The Book Thief was a great read, probably a 4/5 for me. Fragile Things was one of the least liked Gaiman books, IMHO. And you know how much I like Neil Gaiman. Maybe a 2.5 or 3/5
-
Somewhat of interest.......44 of the books that I have read this year were obtained from the Library, if I counted correctly.

Anxiousness for events such as birthdays, Christmas..
muggle not replied to Athena's topic in General Chat
I enjoy Holidays (I don't consider birthdays a holiday). I especially enjoy Thanksgiving as it is a time of relaxation, good food and wine, endless football on TV, and especially....being with family to enjoy their company. Cooking is not stressful in our family as I buy, already cooked, a rotisserie turkey and a Honeybaked Ham for the meal. Many of us pitch in to do the other cooking, i.e., mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, cornbread stuffing, baked corn casserole, pumpkin and apple pies,.....and on and on. It is simply a time of enjoyment. -

The only way to receive TV in many areas is via either Cable or Satellite. I could not envision giving up TV altogether due to a lack of content/interest. There are many great/good TV programs to watch. To just name a few in the past/current years (and I am sure other members can name many more great programs): Game of Thrones Sopranos Breaking Bad Walking Dead Seinfeld Sex In The City Wonder Years Six Feet under Doctor Who Saturday Night Live Entertainment Concerts And..........sports Soccer Major League Baseball...World Series....etc. National Football league National Basketball league Nascar Formula 1 NCAA .........Football, Basketball, etc........nothing much bigger than the NCAA Basketball playoffs Indianapolis 500

If people "really" thought cable TV was on the way out they would be "shorting" (method of investing that the stock will decrease in value) the stock of Time Warner Cable and Comcast, two of the biggest cable TV companies in the U.S.. Instead, the stock value of Time Warner Cable has increased 100% in the last 3 years.

We are driving up to Piney River, Virginia tomorrow to the orchard to get apples. I talked to one of their wholesale people and she is also going to reserve for me the new Hydrangea shrub called "Little Limelight".
