  1. The cynic in me says it's because of Pelzer's success and that it's probably as much about making money as anything else.
  2. Happy birthday. :)

  3. This is the best book by Marian Keyes, in my opinion.
  4. I read this years ago - I found the first one to be very disturbing. I had to put it down and compose myself on a number of occasions as it made me feel quite faint (I'm very squeamish). I think these books are possibly what spawned all the other white covered true story books. I haven't read anything else in the 'genre' since reading Pelzer's books, but I do have to read Escape by Carolyn Jessop for a Bookworms meet later in the year.
  5. I love this show so much! I expect there will be complaints about the fox hunting bit though! Have you ever tried the BBC's IPlayer? You can watch TG on there - it's great quality.
  6. I watched that for the first time last weekend. I bawled my eyes out too! I want to read The Screwtape Letters - must add it to my Amazon wishlist.
  7. I think I'll wait until she's 12. She's not 11 until the end of this month. It appears that it's only in the Book People site that they're categorised as age 10 - I guess that's a mistake.
  8. The Book People have the set for £8.99 plus P&P. I thought of getting them for my daughter as they say age 10 and she'll be 11, but I was put off by the "you'll laugh your knickers off" tag-line - I'm not sure they're suitable for that age.
  9. You could pick a nice sunny day, put the boxes on the pavement outside your house with a sign saying "free books - help yourself" and let people rummage! I'd love to see a sign like that!
  10. I do exactly the same! Hubby's had this on his 'to read' pile for about 696 years!
  11. I'm reading that too. Welcome to the forum.
  12. I've not heard of these. I had a look on Fantastic Fiction which bizarrely lists numbers 7 to 39! Which titles do you have left to get?
  13. I cried too. Then again, I cry at anything!
  14. I was traumatised by the TV version of Lives and Loves of a She-Devil when walking into the lounge where my parents were watching and seeing Doctor Who naked and tied to a bed. *Shudders*
  15. My bro-in-law has a customized Harley - it's awesome! My Dad buys a car magazine every week (I forget what it's called) and then passes it on to my car mad son!
  16. It sounds great. I'm sure you'll have a great summer with it - let us know what you find.
  17. Hello and welcome.

    Hello

Hello and welcome to the forum.
  19. It seems to only be available in the USA at the moment. (Or for nearly
  20. Yeah, I've just tried in IE. I realise that JK is loaded so her site will be better. It's just that I get a 'hand' when I'm on the basket of flowers on the lamp post so I thought something was meant to happen. It sounds great!
  21. That book looks great, Michelle. The website is a bit frustrating though. I'm at a scene with a sleeping, snoring bloke but you can't wake him! I thought it was going to be interactive like J K Rowling's site was! ETA: The book doesn't seem to be available to buy from Amazon.
  22. I read up to nearly page 100 of the last book I gave up on. I think I might adopt this rule in future now, as I do believe the adage "too many books, too little time"!
  23. The only magazines I buy on a regular basis are Waterstone's Books Quarterly (which technically I don't buy as it's free to their loyalty card holders) and NewBooksMag, which is also quarterly. I like to pick up the free Somerfield magazine when I can, but the shop I most recently used to get it from became a Tesco so I don't know whether I'll still be able to get hold of it.
  24. Type [ spoiler] in front of what you want hidden, and [ /spoiler] afterwards, but without the space after the [ bracket.
  25. I always think of Westerns as being blokes books (I don't watch cowboy films for the same reason) - perhaps I'll check one out one day.
