  1. I haven't read it either! I nearly bought it when it first came out but didn't. Having seen the first 30 minutes of the film, I'm no longer sure I want to...
  2. Your last paragraph pretty much sums up my feelings about this book too. My Mum loved it though - but was really disappointed with Fletcher's next book (something about Oysters in the title!).
  3. How long is a piece of string?!
  4. I assumed it was a joke?!
  5. I'm glad you enjoyed it. :) I am having a good day, thanks. Got taken out for lunch and hubby and I are going for a meal tonight! :D Hope your day is going well too.

  6. Excellent - well done you! :friends0: I'm sure you won't regret it and that you'll have lots of fun. Indian Head massage sounds bliss! :D

  7. Author J D Salinger has died, aged 91.
  8. What are you implying about us?!
  9. I clicked on the link Diane posted about book corners and got the following message: Whoops - I bet that was all us BFCers having a look!
  10. Today I'm reading Act 1 of Macbeth. I bought a school's version, but it's the original text and is unabridged, so I'm going through Act 1 and annotating in pencil (sorry to those of you who hate writing in book, but I'm tackling it the exact way I dealt with Shakespeare for my GCSE and A level English) as I go! I'm going to do this with all 5 acts over the next day or so and then I'm going to go back and read it again properly.
  11. My Mum and Dad bought me this for Christmas. It's being bumped up the pile now!
  12. Sorry, I've just never heard that expression before.
  13. I'm definitely bumping this up my 'to read' pile now! It's less than half-price on Amazon at the moment, btw. Is it the sort of book one could dip in and out of a chapter at a time between other reading, do you think?
  14. WTH is a hump day?!
  15. I was led to believe that it was laugh-out-loud funny in places, and incredibly sad in others (from someone in Waterstone's - I didn't get the impression they were trying to 'sell' it to me, but perhaps they were?!) but I found it neither really. It was just okay.
  16. Well, I finished Dear Me..., but it was a real let down. I don't know what to do now - my mojo still hasn't returned properly.
  17. Dear Me: A Letter to my Sixteen-Year-Old Self by Various Contributors The
  18. Ah, that makes more sense. Thanks. I hope it's not dubbed too. I have horrible memories of dubbed children's TV shows from the 70s - I hope it's not like those!
  19. I looked at one of the 'My Story' books in Waterstone's this morning - one about the plague. I've had 'Blitz' on my Amazon wishlist for some time - I think Tiger mentioned reading one - they do look good but I'm not sure if they might be a bit too 'young' for me. Don't get me wrong, I do read a fair few children's/YA books, but usually fiction, not fact.
  20. The second quote comes from the thread about the book and I'm confused - I thought you wanted it to be subtitled but in the second post you say you're glad it's dubbed! Where did you read it was being dubbed - I thought the official site said it had English subtitles?
  21. I couldn't get The Girl Who Played With Fire this morning, but I did buy Keep the Aspidistra Flying by George Orwell. I had a really long chat with the man who served me in Waterstone's about George Orwell - I love it when that happens! (Luckily there was another man serving and no queue).
  22. To be entertained and to learn. And also to experience the wonderful imagery that comes with a book. I know we've discussed this before, elsewhere, but I'm always totally astounded by my brain's ability to make up very detailed pictures when I read. No two houses (for example) have ever looked remotely the same in my head. I picture houses/rooms/locations/people/pets that I've never seen in real life - where these pictures come from I don't know but they always amaze me!
  23. I didn't know she had a new book coming out. I'll have to wait for the paperback (so probably next year!) but I shall definitely have to get this. Thanks, Kell.
  24. In an effort to kick-start my mojo, I've put The Children's Book to one side and have picked up Dear Me: A Letter to my Sixteen Year Old Self by various contributors. I seem to find that non-fiction is easier to read at times so finger's crossed it works!
  25. *Grabs one of Kylie's cookies* Yum, thanks!
