  1. I agree with you there Michelle, for the first time ever, I got bored and wandered into the kitchen to tidy up. I decided I could peek round if it sounded more interesting!
  2. last night I had the vilest sausages imaginable, so-called healthy low fat ones. Texture like rubber, taste like??? Clive bought them as they were a special offer, if he bought normal ones and grilled them they end up lower in fat anyway. I think I'm peeved because he always claims to be the better cook, shopper, etc...
  3. I'm the christmas pud maker too. Mum isn't a pudding person and sadly, I never knew my grandmothers but aunty Ada made a fabulous trifle whenever I visited. I also used to love Gypsy tart at school, I made it for the first time last year and presented this culinary wonder to the family who declared it TOO SWEET!! At least my son in law Sam liked it, dear boy:friends0:
  4. I remember reading 'The Blind men and the Elephant' again & again when I was little. I also remember a comic that had a story about a little girl 'nurse Susan' who ran a doll's hospital [so that's what influenced my career choice!]
  5. Little women Pay it forward The Railway Children Apollo 13 Mind you, I got all choked up explaining to my kids that Apollo 13 was a true story. Thanks to Star Trek/Wars et al, they couldn't believe it.
  6. Just watching James Marsters doing a bad boy with an Adam Ant look going on. What could be better? Jack Harkness and Spike, yum!
  7. I just read my son's copy of 'I am legend' while a great book, don't read it on your own at night, then try to get the cat back in from outside. I should've left her to the vampires!
  8. As P.P. said, early onset Alzheimer's is rare, in 30 years I have only come across 2 people who this happened to. One was in 1977, before we had developed any effective treatment. The other was more recent and sadly for her, diagnosed too late. At 53 she complained of getting lost in her kitchen, and was written off as being "just a depressed housewife". Terry should have better treatment as it's been noticed sooner, and has a chance to have a good quality of life for some time.
  9. Louise, that's sad. I read somewhere that historically, societies that banned any form of religion, namely dictatorships, failed in the end. Positive affirmation of any faith is a good thing. I must admit that I've heard similar nonsense from children down my way too. [ I tried pointing out that a lot of their grandparents were Irish immigrants, apparently "that's diffrent, innit?"]
  10. Hi Jen, after a similar discussion with my son, I wondered whether you had a favourite character, if so who and why? One of mine has always been Jo from 'Little Women' I wanted to be her when I was little!
  11. I'm not a great fan of tea, the worst tea I ever had was on the isle of Lewis. My neighbour had the pot sitting on her Aga all day, she just added hot water or more tealeaves periodically. It was sooo stewed!
  12. Try crushed egg shells around the plants, and you can use your own hair if you dont have dogs. It's all about creating surfaces the slugs don't like to cross.
  13. Breed 77 - En mi sangre, I just love those lads, they're so cheeky, typical Llanito!
  14. Now I read this as child, and loved it. Like most girls my age I wanted to be Jo, and was cross with the way she treated Laurie. I don't remember a dead canary though! If it irritated you though, Good Wives will probably do the same. I didn't like the sequel as much, or the following two books, Jo's boys and Little men.
  15. If you are near enough to visit Gibraltar, Roy's does good fish and chips or the Tunnel. Then go to Morrison's to stock up on Salad cream and crumpets. I can't recommend a curry house as the best one burnt down a couple of years ago:irked:
  16. I bought Delia Smith's Summer Collection from the BHF the other day, but I don't tend to buy books as our library is so good. The Red Cross shop in Bexley is good for designer label clothes, but the Ellenor hospice shop thinks it is a bespoke antique shop and is very expensive.
  17. My grandson helped me plant up a hanging basket at the weekend. We carried it over to the bracket, and the chain broke! Compost and slightly shocked petunias everywhere, Adrian has learnt a new word too. We bundled it all back together, and they seem to have survived.
  18. The husband decided to "help" and put my tray of seedlings outside in the sun. Then he left them overnight and they got chilled. About half have died, I'm going to have to start again with the tomatos, and he wonders why I won't let him near the plants.
  19. I used to get this a lot in Spain and use it in the same way as spinach.
  20. My pumpkins have gone berserk! I put them in a heated propagator with the tomato and courgette seeds , and they've almost reached the lid. I've never grown them before are they supposed to do that?
  21. I've made a cake by accident, I wanted to make a ginger cake but lacked 3 ingredients so I made substitutes and it's gorgeous, if I can only remember what I did!
  22. I've been busy planting seeds this week, and now I have propagators on every available window ledge. So far I've planted cherry tomatos, pumpkins, courgettes, peppers and herbs. When I have the site ready, I will be helping the grandchildren to plant sunflowers.
  23. Judy, that's awful. I hate the way some people don't think about the possible consequence of their actions. We have an ongoing battle with a russian vine that our neighbour planted,it grows over the fence and we spend every summer hacking it back to stop it taking over our garden. It's a very anti social plant!
  24. Spent today, sorting through some of the rubbish that was left in my garden by my middle daughter's partner. He seems to have fancied himself as a bit of a scrap merchant. But [a] why not at his own mother's garden? and why leave it behind? I'm not leaving the country again, I never know what I'll come back to:roll:
  25. Do Yews grow quite big? I've seen yew hedges in gardens, but only seen the trees in parks and churchyards. I quite fancy one as a hedge insread of the huge privet we inherited.
