  1. This one is next on my to be read pile & I'm looking forward to it
  2. Just starting Daphne Du Maurier's Jamaica Inn .
  3. Not particularly Jake. Although the clues are religious. The book is set within Holy Week and the murderer has to be found before the end of Good Friday. I was surprised by the ending - but rest assured that although a little of religion is in it, this is basically a good murder book. Don't let the religious element ruin your perception of the book -it is a verybook! I would say that other books have alot more religion in them as their central theme
  4. Finished The Rsary Girls. I was gripped and thought I had it sussed - until the final twist at the end! I really enjoyed this book
  5. It took me a while to settle into the Rotary Girls, (not being a devotee of American Literature) but I am now really enjoying it. 4 bodies so far! A good read and easy to follow plot - but no obvious murderer so far.
  6. I'll try to Michelle = but it's already out on loan. Tesco's are doing it for
  7. It was chocolate or alcohol!! i knew giving up the hooch would be too difficult and I would fail within days!! (or hours after a bad day at work!) One girl I work with has given up the hooch and is finding it very, very hard!! She is going to give in tomorrow because being Irish, she needs her Guinness on St Patricks day - she is much looking forward to it!!!
  8. ooooh Maureen, don't talk of chocolate - I've given it up for Lent!! I nearly teetered yesterday but held out
  9. Finished The Borgia Bride today. Really enjoyed it 9/10. Mmmmmmm what to read tonight! Not until after the kids go to bed though because of a school meeting for my daughter - as she's a year 6 she has a very busy term coming up before she leaves for secondary school. Which means a busy time for us!!
  10. Hope you get it quickly Inanna It won't disappoint!
  11. Just under half way through The Borgia Bride. What a read, this book is great and leaves the reader what is coming next!! Everything from war, Roman life, scandal, debauchary, fear and brutal retribution. Not to mention the bedroom scenes
  12. Whilst checking Amazon just now for my last post I noticed that Philippa has a new book out on September 4th entitled the Last Boleyn. This one is about Anne's cousin Jane. This one will be added to my wish list as it's a month before my birthday!
  13. Yes she does and different backgrounds. A respectable Trade is in 18C Bristol about the slave trade. Dragonwyke - 1840 s New York, I haven't tried these yet but they do have good reviews
  14. Inanna, I read that one over 18 yrs ago and I remember that it was good. I found my longlost edition 2 weeks ago on my mother's bookshelf, I forgot to pack it when I left home 15 yrs ago - so I plan to reread it
  15. I enjoyed the Wise Woman Kell. It is about a woman who uses her herbs and cures at a time when this trade was deemed witchcraft during the time of the Reformation. I dont think it's her best but is worth the read.
  16. So far I've read The Queen's Fool The Other Boleyn Girl The Wise Woman The Favoured Child The Constant Princess Meridon
  17. I enjoyed these Inanna. Enjoy!
  18. Just read the first 50 pages of the Borgia Bride. Wow what a start - this book is brilliant!!! It has it all - murder, passion and intrigue. It is off to a very promising start!!
  19. Oh Michelle - you have a lively imagination!! Quite right too - this book is not lacking in that department!! The painter who designs the tapestries is a womaniser...........and I think I will always grin when I see pictures of a unicorn now.............!!!
  20. Finished The Lady and the Unicorn. A light hearted read which has a clear storyline. I don't think I will ever look at these tapestries in the same light again!!! The story of a lady being seduced by a unicorn with a large horn being depicted left me grinning with its innuendos I would reread this one in the future
  21. John is the original neanderthal man when it comes to a BBQ. He takes total charge! I've learnt to let him get on with it, whilst I sip the wine!!! He does love cooking in general though and tends to be creative and inventive. We do share the cooking taking it in turns
  22. Sounds like my husband!! He hardly ever looks at a book. But praise where it is due - it has taken him since Christmas to read Bigger than Hitler , Better than Christ I am by far the main reader in this house, although my daughter is trying to take this title!
  23. Finished the book tonight. Thoroughly enjoyed it! I felt that the 2 eras were dealt with very well and that they moved seamlessly between each other and were intertwined together in a relevant way. The ending was logical and gave a most satisfactory end. Like Tracey, I thought that Orianne and Marie Cecile were similar and for I while I thought that these may have been linked. This one will definately be reread again! I also found to my shame  : how lacking my history is regarding medieval France - I certainly learnt a great deal from this book as well as it is obvious that the historical background has been well researched I would give this a well deserved 9/10
  24. Finished Labyrinth this evening. The book was excellent, I really enjoyed it! Well worth the
