  1. Virgin Earth, as the sequel to Earthly Joys was excellent. Ican't wait for the next P.G. book to come out at the end of August (The Other Queen) Now moving onto Susanna Gregory - The Tarnished Chalice
  2. I tend to average 50 - 150 pages on weekdays and upto 250 at weekends. I know that this sounds daft but I always try to finish the current chapter before packing up for the day
  3. Radio 2 most of the time. When in the West Country always Pirate FM and locally KMFM
  4. Usually in the evenings especially workdays, In the car when I am not the one doing the driving and whenever I can squeeze in a few minutes
  5. Next chunky challenge is Philippa Gregory - Virgin Earth at 567 pages
  6. I'm hoping that this is the bad weather now, then we will have lovely warm sunshine

  7. After a couple of books going missing I only lend to my mother and Tiger, even then they're reminded of the rules!! When I talk about books at work, I tend to be vague as to the ownersip or make out that they are from the library. Saves a lot of embarrassing nos!!!!
  8. I've read since I was a tiny child following in mother's and grandmother's footsteps, so I guess it's in my genes (and has been passed onto Tiger). Very often I would be begging for a new book by Enid Blyton instead of a bag of sweets!! For me it's escapism and pure relaxation. I have a very stressful and demanding job and I find that a read helps to unwind and I'm sure it makes me a nicer person. If I don't get a read in each day then the family tend to notice!!! Reading helps me to understand people. relationships, the world and history. It is, apart from sewing, my indulgence (I'm not a woman who needs loads of shoes handbags, makeup etc).
  9. Wasn't I virtuous not buying a book for myself whilst getting yours and your brother's??? (Might have been 'cos I'm saving the pennies for August 25th when Philippa Gregory's new book is out and that I had just got 10 out at the library)
  10. I'm also looking forward to it all!! Can't wait.

  16. Half way through Pillars of Earth - loving it
  17. No, I mean the written book. I've been knitting since I was 7 yrs old and I used to do home work for a London based company. I find it really easy to do both - I always have. It really does pass the time, rows and pages!
  18. Oh enjoy Louise
  19. Now I still can't read (auto ) biographies and fantasy - they have always left me cold
  20. I wonder if it reflects our personality?
  21. Thanks Princeponti. - it certainly has been a very rough time! Congratulations on your engagement! Good to see you back

  22. I think that as we grow older we have a deeper understanding of what we like and are more prepared tp listen to others thoughts and reflections of a particular book. This site has been good for me in that respect but I still remain faithful to my favourite genres - some contemporary fiction, historical fiction, crime, horror and the classics. I still remain devoted to my favourite authors, some since a teenager, for example Jean Plaidy, James Herbert, PD James etc. In addition I have discovered lots of new authors through here. However, despite the influences of here and other people there are still some genres I cannot bring myself to read and these have remained unchanged for the 42 years since I could first hold a book!
  23. So far I'm really enjoying it
  24. Started this evening and I'm enjoying so far!
