David Bowie has always been an idol of mine. And to me he will always be the Goblin King! <3

Who was it, who was it, who was it???!!! When I was 7 years old, I declared I was going to marry Adam Ant - he was just so beautiful, and very theatrical - I suppose that was part of the appeal. I still love his music now. I mean, look at those cheekbones and those intense eyes! How could anyone possibly resist him, eh? It's worth mentioning I had a jacket very similar to that in the 90s and also wore those wrist bangs and bracelets, as well as putting random thin braids and feathers in my hair (I sometimes do that part even now!). I stopped short of the white stripe across the nose and the red stripes on the cheeks, but I do still like wearing heavy black eyeliner and black nail polish... My sister once met Limahl from Kajagoogoo. He borrowed her hairspray when he was doing a gig in the bar where she worked, and went for drinks afterwards. They got on rather famously. She was very cool about it, considering she fancied the pants off him as a kid. At least she wasn't Too Shy Shy!

I was recommended him off the back of my liking Terry Pratchett, and read several of his novels but the only one I actually liked was Snow White and the Seven Samurai. The rest I didn't enjoy at all. To be honest, I wasn't a fan of his style of writing, as well as the storylines, so it was a lose-lose situation for me. (

LOL - I spend a lot of time checking out upcoming films on IMDb. There's precious little info on Krampus, and Brom isn't mentioned as a contributor on IMDb, but I hope it is at least loosely based on his wonderful novel. I adore Brom and would love to see all his books made into movies. And yes, Peanuts is animated and looks pretty decent, so I'm hopeful that it will live up to the promise of the teaser trailer I saw. I also want to add to my list Terminator Genisys, as in February I did a cast/recast of Terminator 2: Judgement Day, and the Movie Gods have smiled on me and cast Emilia Clarke as Sarah Connor, just as I wanted!

Went to see War of the Worlds Live with Dale and Xan (Xan was definitely the youngest person I saw there, although I did see a few other kids there, the youngest being maybe about 8 years old - Xan just turned 6 in September). IT. WAS. AWESOME!!! Xan got a little overwhelmed just before it started - I think the anticipation for a whole year, coupled with the arena being huge and everything being right there and him actually being there too, it all got a little too much for him to take, and so there were a few tears for maybe a minute, but as soon as it started, he was in awe (as were Dale and I!). Mam babysat Josh while we were out gallivanting. Had a fantastic evening out and I love that Xan got so much out of it - so glad we took him to see it and that he's just old enough that he'll be able to remember being there.

We will very shortly be listening to Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds Live in Newcastle. We're taking Xan along too as an early Xmas prezzie as he adores WotW as much as we do and knows it backwards. It was so funny listening to him talking to his friends: Pal 1: I'm going to see the panto in Blyth. Pal 2: I'm going to see the panto in Newcastle. Pal 3: I'm going to see the panto in Sunderland. Xan: I'm not going to see the panto at all. Pals: Why not? What are YOU going to see. Xan: Something better even than that - I'm going to see War of the Worlds!!!!! *cue tumbleweed blowing across the silent playground* Pals: What's War of the Worlds? Xan: Only the best music EVER. With ALIENS. And one of them RIGHT ON THE STAGE. And HOLOGRAM people and everything. Pals: Wooooooaaaaahhhhh!!!!!! Mum 1: (To me) Is that right? You're taking him to War of the Worlds? Me: Yup. He loves it. Excited as anything about it. Mum 2: Oh my God, that is so COOL! Mum 3: Wish I was going to War of the Worlds instead of the panto now... Me: *Smug grin*

Some of the films I'm looking forward to next year. The ones marked in red are the ones I'm mot excited about. You may notice a complete lack of comic book hero movies from my list, which is unusual for me, but I'm getting sick to death of them and I am SO over the Avengers series it's not even funny. The Theory of Everything - Looks like a very sensitive portrayal of Stephen Hawking's life Mortdecai Project Almanac - This one has been put back several times Jupiter Ascending Seventh Son Kingsman: The Secret Service - Colin Firth being awesome What We Do in the Shadows Cinderella - Live action version which looks magnificent! A Little Chaos - Kate Winslet in a period piece Serena Furious 7 - Been waiting for this one a long time The Age of Adaline Far from the Madding Crowd Mad Max: Fury Road - Tom Hardy takes up the reigns as Max Tomorrowland Jurassic World Pan The Man from U.N.C.L.E. - Henry Cavill!!!!! Kitchen Sink Frankenstein Jem and the Holograms The Last Witch Hunter Bond 24 Peanuts - Come on, it's Snoopy! The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2 - The final installment Krampus - The darker side of the winter festivities... Mission: Impossible 5 Into the Woods - The Broadway musical brought to the big screen at last! Foxcatcher Grimsby Crimson Peak The Jungle Book Spectre - Bond 24

As it has multiple meanings, it may well be that it will be unclear to some readers which you mean, so perhaps substituting a different word for clarity would be a good idea.

Competition: No One Gets Out Alive by Adam Nevill [Closed]
Kell replied to Michelle's topic in Competitions & Give Aways
Mine arrived the other day - I meant to pst at the time, but I got sidetracked. Thank you so much! -
In Xan's class at school, there are two kids called Riley Anderson - one boy, and one girl. They boy gets his middle name hitched on and goes by Riley Murray, so that everyone knows who's being spoken to.

Mine is just me own name - plain and simple.

Can you identify these classic horror books by their covers?
Kell replied to chesilbeach's topic in Horror / Fantasy / SF
8/10 - I got #3 and #7 wrong, although I swithered with #7 and changed it away from the right one - LOL! -
I usually wait at least a year, although when I first read The Stand by Stephen King (the full, unabridged version at over 1000 pages long) I read it three or four times in a year, because I just kept finding new things in it. Over the years, I've read it at least a dozen times, but I haven't read it in at least 5 years, so I'm really due a revisit!

So cool! Thank you so much! This has rather made my day - I was having a bit of a mixed bag of it today, but now I'm a lot happier! -
I have it in with NA and P&P, so is that OK?

1. Northanger Abbey I love Gothic novels and I love Austen's slightly humorous take on them, with a flighty young heroine (Catherine), a dashing young handsome hero (Henry Tilney - my favourite Austen leading male!), and a mysterious stately home (Northanger Abbey). It's a wonderfully fun novel and I love it from start to finish. 2. Mansfield Park This one took a while to grow on me, as Fanny Price is too good to be true, but I love the meta-ness of it, with a play being performed and the rehearsals interfering with various relationships. And I ended up rather liking Fanny too. 3. Pride and Prejudice I know this one is usually listed as the favourite, but it ranks number 3 for me. I love the characters and the story, but although many swoon over Mr Darcy (myself included!), he's just no Henry Tilney!

Mine is being buried alive - to the extent that I want to be cremated when I die, rather than buried - just in case! I'm actually rather claustrophobic, so the idea of being trapped in a small, coffin-like space can send me over the edge. -

This is where I get really glad Dale isn't a reader! All the books in our home belong to me except for about 3 books I bought for Dale which are special editions about/by his favourite bands. It means my own books, of which I take great care, are safe and sound. We did merge our movie collections when we moved in together, as there were some overlaps (we have similar tastes with some divergence),

Me too - I often find myself laughing out loud while others are cringing behind cushions or hiding their head in the shoulder of their partner (if at the cinema). I've had some dreadful glares from some people who think it's terribly inappropriate to laugh, but often the so-called scary bits are absolutely laughable - either badly executed, or just plain silly - in which case, how can I help but laugh?! On a side note, I think I find dark humour where other people sometimes miss it. I remember once, when I was reading American Psycho in my lunch break at work, I found part of it hilarious (I'm pretty certain it's a dark comic horror, that book!), and was laughing out loud, People avoided me for a long time and I heard the occasional whisper about me being that "strange lass who laughed while reading that horrible psycho murder book!" I had to laugh at them, because I felt they'd completely missed the point of the book, if they'd even read it at all!

The Exorcist - Classic that has pretty much stood the test of time, although some of the effects would have been done by CGI nowadays. I have actually watched it a good half a dozen ties and enjoyed it a fair bit. The Human Centipede - This is just a sick shock-fest rather than a scary film of any merit. 8MM - I would put this more in the category of thriller than horror, and even so, it's pretty average. I've not seen the others. The Hostel films (as well as films like Saw and its sequels) aren't my cup of tea - I prefer a deep psychological horror/terror. I would replace 8MM with Paranormal Activity, which (for the first film, at least), was pretty innovative and had some pretty decent scares and disturbing moments in it. I would also replace The Human Centipede with Ringu (the original Japanese version, not the American remake, Ring), as it tapped into the media as a conduit for a very personal kind of communicable terror. I do love a good scary film and have spent my entire adult life to date looking for a film that will really scare the wiggins out of me.

Are you the main reader in your life?
Kell replied to Anna Begins's topic in General Book Discussions
My Mam ans Sister are both pretty big readers, and Xan and Josh both love books too, but Dale has read exactly 1 1/2 books in the almost 15 years we've been together.
