  1. As homework questions are not allowed, I'm going to close this thread, but leave it here as someone offered some information that might help.
  2. Could it be Geordie Racer by Christopher Russell (It's a Look and Read book).
  3. On the whole, I don't usually bother, but this year I have read several Pride and Prejudice sequels/parodies - the one I liked best was actually Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, as it was very cleverly and (bizarrely) quite respectfully done as well as being very funny.

    Happy birthday! :)

  5. I'm another one who recommends Stardust and Neverwhere - Neverwhere is even better than Stardust!
  6. I think I saw those in a magazine, Kate - they're so cute!
  7. Morrissey cancels concert two songs in after being hit with bottle of beer. Too right! I would have walked out too! Why go to a concert if you like the person so little that you want to throw a bottle at them? Really, why bother???
  8. I had a bizarre dream last night - I was reading The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle and a man stoppd to ask if I was enjoying it and it turned out to be you - LOL!

  9. I don't know if it's the same in Japanese, but in English, to "wind someone up" is to ge them riled. To me, the wind up bird seems to be indicative of Kuniko and Toru being wound up by each other and their spiralling situation (from what little Ive read so far - I'm only onto about chapter 4).
  10. I rather fancy seeing Goats too. Also dying to see The Vampire's Assistant (The Saga of Darren Shan) and New Moon (Twilight Saga). I'm totally into the whole vampire thing!
  11. I think I've made 10 Xmas cards so far and I have another couple partially done (although I'm not so sure either of those will get finished as I've already gone off them). I got a cute little free kit on a magazine yesterday that is BEGGING to be made into a Xmas card and that same mnag contained a couple more designs I'm itching to try out, so I'll get at least another couple done and that will take care of all the cards for close family members. I've been stitching mine for acouple of months now and I think that next year I'll make sure I space them out over the course of the year - maybe one every coupe of weeks so I can knock one out in between other projects, or even in tandem...
  12. Hope you're having a great birthday! :)

Full of clothes shops - you know, the type that go up to about a size 10 and cost 10 times more than they need to. I won't be going there very often. :(

  14. That Malta Kano seems a bit of an odd character. I can't understand why her sister wouldn't report that she'd been raped by Noboru Wataya though! Even if it would be a very public thing, having the culprit caught and punished, perhaps preventing a repeat with someone else, is surely more important? Toru's wife seems a bit of a chore. Also, how can they have been married and living together for 6 years and know so little about each other's likes and dislikes? I mean, I can understand there being an occasional something that comes up and suddenloy you find out something new, but silly things like blue tissues, floral toilet paper and beef with green peppers are everyday things - how could Toru be so clueless about his own wife???

Yes i went on opening day and was severely disappointed. :( The so-called "speciality threads" section has, wait for it, DMC, Anchor and bargain multipacks. No silks, no Madeira! The Mill Hill beads weren't even in numerical order, so it took AGES to find the four that I wanted. They've got some nice colours in the aida, but not much in te way of evenweave and nothing realy bonny or unusual (no hand-dyed or anything special like that). And they onbly have one kind of tapestry needles. I wanted John James Petites, but they only had ordinary John James needles and not much selection of sizes. :( It'll be fine as an emergency supplies place, but the flosses were 79p each and I can get them for half hat price online with free postage, so I'll just be getting 9% of my supplies online as I already do.

  16. I've finished the reversible cushion for my Grom and am busy doing a bookmark for a bookish buddy right now. I've abandoned the sampler I was doing for my Mam though - I've had to frog the stitches so many times that I'm hearily fed up with it. I might go back to it in time fo rit to be given to her next Xmas (or maybe the one after that - LOL!). The afghan I'm doing to Xander won't be ready in time for Xmas, but it wll do just as well for his 2md birthday, giving me plenty of time to finish it. I also made my 15-sided biscornu into a lavendar-scented pomander for my Step-Mum. This are the only stitchy gifts I've done for this year, but I've also stitched a handful of cards for close family members. I'll certainly be doing more next year. I'm planning on doing a bunch of guest towels that say things like "Wash your damn hands!" for my sister next year - perhaps for her birthday if theyr'e done in time (end of May) or, if not, for Xmas. I think she'd get a kick out of those.
  17. If you like the supernatural type stuff, I highly recommend Kelley Armstrong's Women of the Otherworld series, starting with Bitten. She also writes none-supernatural stuff and you may also enjoy her Nadia Stafford series (two so far), the first being Exit Strategy. They're all regular-sized paperbacks and will fit nicely in your handbag for airborne reading.
  18. Wow! That's some bill!
  19. Welcome to the forum! Loving the user name (do you also go by Calvin Klein? LOL!) If you'[re looking for something different to read, you could always join in with our reading circle. We're reading The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle by Haruki Murakami this month.

Have a great birthday, Adam! :)

  21. My copy arrived today and I read the first chapter in the bath tonight (I'm going out or I would have read more). So far it seems totally random with the missing cat and the phonecall and the girl in the garden!
  22. I ave a meat and potato pie in the oven at the moment. I made a Quiche the other day and the filling (spinach and feta) was gorgeous, but the shortcrust pastry (plain flour, marg, veg lard and water with a pinch of salt and some herbs) left a lot to be desired, so for the pastry on my pie I've changed the ingredients slightly (sr flour, veg lard, milk, pinch of salt) in the hopes of improvement. I also wrapped the pastry in cling film and bunged it in the fridge for a good half hour before rolling it out and brushed some milk on the pie crust. Fingers crossed! I also made some melting moments the other day that went down a storm with everyone.
  23. Saudi Arabian Paedophile to be beheaded and crucified. Hurrah, I say! Anyhone who does that to children should be punished to the extreme end of the law in my opinion!
  24. Happy birthday! :)

  25. I love that Haribo advert with the little girl - "Alright sunshine! Sign the confession!" I almost pee my pants laughing every time!
