A thick slice of toast, with 2 slices of bacon, a squidge of of ketchup, then a fried egg, put on upside down, so the yolk goes all over it!

I've just noticed how many people have Twilight avatars....I'm out of fashion!
Think of it as 'not following the crowd'.. please!!

I've just editied the thread title, to include discussion of the whole programme.

You would make that call on hearing her sing once Heather?
-
Whilst I agree that her voice was rather good, I've heard other people sing that song just as well, if not better. I'm sure it's just such a shock because we all judge her by her looks and behaviour first..?

I finished The Reader last night, and I can't quite decide what I feel about it. I certainly wanted to keep going with it, and I did feel a little jolt of a shock at the ending. Apart from that, however, I felt as if it had somehow missed it's oppertunity. The initial relationship wasn't explored deeply enough, and I couldn't get attached to either of the characters. That meant that the book didn't pull me in as much as I expected.
I've now gone back to The Princess Bride, which I had started a while ago - I love the idea of someone finding a childhood book and discovering that his dad had left out the boring bits, then re-writing it with those bits missing! I'm enjoying the style.

I've merged your post with an existing thread about the book.
You may wish to post in the Introductions forum, so we can find out a bit more about you.

Moved to the non-fiction section.

Yep, it says 'a.book.in.the.life'

I am The_Library_Nook if you, or anyone, wants to add me.
You need to change your sig!
If you all join the BCF group it'll be easier to find each other.

Well, I am fairly 'snobbish' about it, but when there's a BOGOF offer, I can overcome it!
-
Have you worked out why you won't buy them though?
-
Does anyone else tend to avoid these, or does it not matter to you? I bought 4 books in WHSmiths the other day, when they had BOGOF - there were two versions of The Reader, but only the film tie-in had the sticker on.. and I was disappointed because I preferred the other.
I was also annoyed that not only was Q&A the film tie-in one, but they had actually changed the title as well! For me, that seemed a step too far.. from what I've read, the film and book are quite different, so why not leave the title alone?
Apart from that though, I'm not sure why I try to avoid the film covers.. maybe I want people to think that I discovered the book before the film? Which is silly, because quite often I haven't!
Or maybe it's just the general idea of not following the crowd, and liking the original?

I thought it was good, but thought it could have been so much better!
I've just gotten to the point where she's disappeared, and I agree so far.. there's nothing wrong with it so far, but it feels as if there could be so much more. I'm interested to see how the rest compares.

lol.. I don't think I'm in trouble - either they like arguing, or (more likely, I guess) I'm not expressing my point properly.
-
The reason I don't like bookarmy so much is that every single book has a 'Buy the Book' link (as well as adverts), which makes it pretty commercial.
Still, LT asks for payment after so many books, and GoodReads has quite a few adverts. (I just hope they're all better at money making than I am! lol)

Everytime I try to say something in a group, someone argues with me.

I'm so glad someone else has liked that one.

Has anyone also watched the old Doctor Who? I keep on wondering if i should...
I think if you're a big fan, it can be important for some of the history. However, the few that I have seen are very slow compared to the ones we have today. If I want to find out something, I tend to use the internet to read up on it.

'Never Let Me Go' seems to be a popular one.. I'm sure I read about it here somewhere but I can't find it now...
-
My understanding is that they've said 'Novemberish' for the next one, followed by a two-parter at Christmas.
-
pipread, I was just going to suggest that.
With short stories, there's less pressure, because if you're not getting on with one, you can try another.

Maybe if nothing is holding your attention (and this is in general, not towards one person), it could be worth stopping completely for a while. Find something completely different to do for a while, and see what happens?

I think it's just one of those things that we all seem to go through, and for different reasons.
Personally, I found myself struggling recently, but I think that's because I had spent a long time reading books sent to me for review. Although most were good, some weren't so much so, but the main problem was that I had an obligation to get them read.. which meant that I couldn't choose other books.
It's gone quieter recently, so I've actually gone out and bought books that I like the look of, or have been recommended - and they've been a pleasure to read.

As I said earlier, I personally found Beyond The Deepwoods to be a younger read, so if you start there, don't be too put off by that. Kylie, The Curse of the Gloamglozer may be a better starting point.
