  6. This is a genuine request for information (cos I'm still new here) : did you read all that in the month of April? And, how did you do that?
  7. Thank you!
  8. Why don't you try China Miéville? He's very difficult to categorise but he's a great read. I started with The City and The City then went on to read Perdido Street Station, first of a trilogy. You won't be able to relate either of those to existing stories, imho.
  9. You get bragging rights for that! Well done
  10. Hello and welcome. Please feel free to look around and join in anywhere you like. I'm fairly new myself so we'll be good company for each other
  11. I like dystopian novels too. Have you tried We by Yevgeny Zamyatin ? A wee snippet from Amazon " .........A foundational work of dystopian fiction, inspiration for both Orwell's Nineteen Eighty-Four and Huxley's Brave New World, WE is a book of radical imaginings ........." I am also enjoying The Giver Quartet by Lois Lowry and will embark on the third part this year. Welcome
  12. i{My Soul} I summon to the winding ancient stair; Set all your mind upon the steep ascent, Upon the broken, crumbling battlement, Upon the breathless starlit air, 'Upon the star that marks the hidden pole; Fix every wandering thought upon That quarter where all thought is done: Who can distinguish darkness from the soul i{My Self}. The consecretes blade upon my knees Is Sato's ancient blade, still as it was, Still razor-keen, still like a looking-glass Unspotted by the centuries; That flowering, silken, old embroidery, torn From some court-lady's dress and round The wodden scabbard bound and wound Can, tattered, still protect, faded adorn i{My Soul.} Why should the imagination of a man Long past his prime remember things that are Emblematical of love and war? Think of ancestral night that can, If but imagination scorn the earth And interllect is wandering To this and that and t'other thing, Deliver from the crime of death and birth. Fragment from A Dialogue Of Self And Soul by W B Yeats
  13. There was a young lady from Whipsnade Who, on confronting a man with a switch blade Said hey there, ahoy.... As a distracting ploy
  14. Some say the bird is on the wing But that's absurd, the wing is on the bird!
  15. Tim Magennis on Isle of Wight Liked to curse and fight When he trained as a boxer.... As soon as he clocks her He tried to make everything right. There was a young lady from Whipsnade
  16. I loved this, when I read it.
  17. Actually it's a lot easier because card is stiffer than paper and holds the folds and thus shape better. If that was made of paper it would collapse under it's own weight - it's difficult to tell the size there. You can see the alarm clock behind it here (using that to help it stand for the photo) and that might give a better idea of size
  18. Congratulations Raven
  19. This is what I built today
  20. A diet of chocolate and cheese Caused Rodney to expand at the knees He widened his girth Amid very much mirth Then asked for some more, please
