  1. Sarah Pearse, The Wilds. ETA This is a GREAT book and well worth reading but it does touch on domestic abuse, to make clear to anyone should this be a trigger.
  2. I found this website which may prove useful Ulysses Guide. This has also been put into a book, revised and updated (the guide, that is).
  3. I think that was meant. Read something easier by Joyce to get a feel for his writing before embarking on Ulysses. I will bear your comment in mind
  4. As companion to The Wilds by Sarah Pearse I'm reading a factual book called Ace: What Asexuality Reveals About Desire, Society, and the Meaning of Sex by Angela Chen. Only 30 odd pages in and it's fascinating.
  5. A Lesson in Dying is good.
  6. Reading Sarah Pearse The Wilds
  7. Anne Cleeves, A Lesson in Dying
  8. Currently reading Anne Cleeves A Lesson in Dying for this category.
  9. I lost control of mine years ago. So many that I probably won't read them in my lifetime.
  10. I was advised - many years ago - to read this before Ulysses
  11. It was/is. I haven't seen it either.
  12. Yeah, what's wrong with that? 🤣
  13. Just finished this and I'm glad that I stuck with this, it's great!
  14. Stuart Turton, The Last Murder at the End of the World. I'm glad that I stuck with this, it's great!
  15. I'm still reading it so it's not that bad, I'm just not on board with the story as of yet, which is weird (the story is weird, but I like weird so that's OK). It's well written and the story does continue at a pace.
  16. Decided on Stuart Turton's latest, The Last Murder at the End of the World. Not impressed so far but it might grow on me.
  17. I’m the same. We need a good old fashioned thunderplump to clear the air and we’re not going to get one.
  18. Aye it's a local holiday. There has been some rain but traditionally we have constant heavy rain for the whole fortnight.
  19. Great Expectations, Charles Dickens. Marvellous!
  20. I would think so.
  21. Great! The Wilds was only released yesterday and I also have Stuart Turton's latest, The Last Murder at the End of the World, too. Be happy to discuss Great Expectations with you when I'm finished.
  22. I thought that I'd replied to this so apologies for that. Something mysterious is fine with me and I'll try harder to be broader in future suggestions 😊 As for what I'll read, I don't know yet but I am leaning towards Agatha Christie and/or Arthur Conan Doyle. Then again, I just bought the latest Sarah Pearse novel, The Wilds, which is a mystery. So I'll start with that, after I've finished Great Expectations.
  23. Oh no. Hope you are well soon
