Rocket Fire is a pizza place around here. They have other stuff besides, but I tend to always get pizza when I go. I need to branch out a bit. Ironically, they ordered some at work today so I had a slice for lunch. Very good!

Iced coffee. Nice!

Oooh. I'll have to try it. I love a good Po Boy.

Pie. Any kind will do.

Haley, they're so pretty, aren't they! I just go on there and wishlist all the time. I know! Did you see the Nabakov one? I thought of you as soon as I saw it. I have to look up the grammar mugs. So great!

Hmm...I've wondered how to do this as well. What a handy little post.

Once again, great minds think alike, Athena! War and Peace is also on my list but I thought I'd tackle Anna Karenina first as it seemed very slightly less daunting. So far, it seems to be not as bad as I thought it might be. Of course, I'm only about ten chapters into the 130 or so in the book.

I was a bit disappointed because it seemed so clever the way it was set up, going from young to old, the controversy it stirred both before and after publication...sigh! I'd like to try Finnegan's Wake and see if I like it any better, but like you, Athena, I have more than a few things ahead of it on the list.

If you liked Wool, try The Dark Age by Jason Gurley. I know I've said this before and sound like a broken record, but I found it to be quite moving. Very well-put. I think that's a great assessment.

This company is my favorite. Rather pricey, but cool nonetheless. Custom book covers and sets along with classic vintage. Just great! http://juniperbooks.com/

Wow! That's amazing!!! I don't think I could walk the course much less finish so high. Very impressive.

I really like my list on here. It's so handy! Lord knows I'm on here enough. -
Thanks! I'm really enjoying it so far.

My journey to Ireland is complete! Unfortunately, The Dubliners by James Joyce was not quite the tour I was hoping it would be. Although it did provide glimpses of a wide cross-section of people in turn of the century Dublin, the lack of connection to those characters coupled with the abrupt, unresolved endings were unsatisfying to me. I might revisit Ireland later on and try one of the other books on the list. Until then, off to Moscow! The book I've chosen for this leg of the journey is the great Russian classic, Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy. It's quite a long one, so wish me luck!

April 2014 The Dubliners by James Joyce Publishing Information: ©1914 Pages: 236 Genre: Fiction Synopsis: This is a collection of short stories about people in Dublin at the turn of the 20th century. Impressions: I think of these more as vignettes, little snapshots of moments rather than complete stories. In each, the reader is more like a bystander, emotionally detached from the situation, eavesdropping until they are suddenly caught and the door is shut or the curtains are closed. It might be unsophisticated of me, but I really like some sort of resolution in the things I read and so found Joyce's endings to be far too abrupt and often unsatisfactory. Also, as a result of the detachment, I found it difficult to care about the characters and their fates. It might be that it's something that I'd have to read again to really enjoy, but I don't know that I'd like to do that.

The Family with Robert DeNiro and Michelle Pfeiffer. It really was quite good! I hadn't been sure what to expect, but I rather enjoyed it.

It never occurred to me to do this, but I think that would be interesting to see what my actual reading habits are so I could either fine-tune or expand my selections. There are a lot of wonderful book logs on this site. I love reading them to get inspiration for future reading. I like being able to look at my list and see what I've accomplished so far. I've just started using Goodreads for that as well, but am not sure what I think of it yet. I don't go on the site often enough for it to be efficient for me, I think. -
Neither! We wound up with a stuffed pork roast with mashed potatoes, asparagus, salad and wine, then Boston cream pie for dessert. Husband wound up preparing everything except the salad, so I can't really complain! We did buy some lamb, but I think we'll have it later this week. It was perfect weather for a nap, so nap I did! I just woke up and am debating going back to bed for the night.

I would think an Excel spreadsheet would also be a helpful tool. It can be sorted various ways, you could add sheets for different things (TBR, etc.), link the totals to a spreadsheet, create graphs/charts, etcetera. It's really a handy program for organizing information. -
The Dubliners is well underway and proving to be an interesting read. It's time to start thinking about the next leg of my journey. I believe the next stop on my journey will be the city of Moscow. Elegant and mysterious, it's always been high on my list of places to visit in real life. Now what to read...

Is everyone at your house okay? Hopefully the tree didn't fall on your house! It really is quite eerie in the aftermath of a big storm. That's well-put. We've had a busy week so far preparing for Easter. On Sunday I think we might have either ham or lamb. We usually do ham, but I thought it might be fun to try something different.

Hmm...I looked at this on in the Kindle store, but was afraid it would be something of a Groundhog Day without the Bill Murray humor. I'll have to give it a second look. Thanks for the review!

Hmm...I don't know that I could do it though. I suppose that's why I'm not a military commander. Well, among other reasons. I mentioned it in a review on my book list, but I just finished reading Alas, Babylon by Pat Frank. I found it to be a great companion to On the Beach. They were published right around the same time, but deal with the subject in very different ways. If you liked On the Beach but felt it was a bit unrealistic in their reactions, you really might enjoy Alas, Babylon. It's interesting to compare the two, anyway.
