  1. Just thought I'd pop in and say
  2. I'm glad you did! You too! I am interested in Wasteland, let me know what you think. Although it does feel like I am buried in the "speculative fiction" genre right now lol I should have called my Reading Blog something like, "Anna's Dystopia for 2015". I am reading again from Hugh Howey's Sand Omnibus today, Part 2, The Visitor.
  3. The Sand one or- oh I'll just email you, I owe you one anyway lol It's good to see you around!
  4. Are you in the South East? I hear its to be down to actual freezing there.
  5. Title: Sand Part 1: The Belt of the Buried Gods (A Taste of Tomorrow Omnibus) Author Hugh Howey Genre: Speculative Fiction, Dystopian, Science Fiction Age: Adult, YA Pages: 40 Book 1 for 2015 Date: 1/5/15 The world Howey tells of is a world covered in Sand. Sand Divers dive down hundreds of meters in the Sand to pirate up stolen goods from old hidden cities. In The Belt of the Buried Gods, Part 1 of the Sand Series, a band of pirates are out to find the ultimate treasure and will attempt to use divers Palmer and Hal to discover it. Howey tells readers: This is the first of 5 parts of SAND. The full novel will be released mid-January, 2014. I believe they are best enjoyed in parts, but many may prefer to wait for the full novel. It's your choice! This was the least interesting story to me of Howey’s when I scoped out his material but- as always- was pleasantly surprised, it was so good. I look forward to reading the next installments. And man, does he know how to end a story or what?! Howey describes his dystopia as optimistic and it is. He paints beautiful, effortless worlds, filled with hope and love. I was literally on the edge of my seat for this one. I am so glad to have found Howey's work. Can be read as/ is a stand alone. Its official- I am in love! And he is only 2 years older than me?? *Swoon* Is it possible to have a crush on an author?

    hello

I did read it, I anticipated it a great deal and then felt really let down. I tried to read Burnt Tongues, a collection of transgressive fiction short stories edited by him, but felt disappointed in that as well, so I haven't read any of his work since. I do have Choke on my 2015 list to be read though, so I haven't totally given up! I liked Invisible Monsters, but I don't think I have read Rant.

    hello

Hi! Welcome! I have read a lot of Chuck Palahniuk's books, I think Damned is one of my favorites.
  8. Title: The Alchemist Author: Paulo Coelho Genre: Fiction Age: Adult Pages: 192 ABANDONED 1/3/15 AT 58% Santiago, an Andalusian shepherd boy, has dreams of pyramids and treasure. What does he have to do to get there? Assistance from a dream interpreter and an old sage, using old smooth rocks as omens to guide him through Egypt, Santiago comes to an Egyptian Oasis on his way to find his personal treasure. On the way he meets a man on his way to meet an Alchemist. That is where I stopped. It was ok. I didn't mind what I was reading, it hadn't gotten boring or anything like that, I just couldn't motivate myself to pick it up again.
  9. Thanks!! Actually Exquisite Corpse is a re read but its been a looong time, have you read any of Poppy's other stuff? I am quite looking forward to exploring all the new John Green I have ahead of me! Thanks so much Alexi! I always end up adding to mine from yours too- I am looking forward to Sky of Red Poppies this year.
  10. Windy and freezing! Although, I just learned not to say freezing to people who live where it actually freezes, as they believe you are actually in the freezing temperatures. It's about 45F/ 7C. But the wind- Brrrrr.
  11. Ok, then I won't return... but the curiosity might get to me lol It's sort of like The Celestine Prophesy, I have yet to get to that one. I even have a preconceived notion that it is overrated! It's just sort of controversial and I am curious. Started a 40 page Hugh Howey, Sand Part 1: The Belt of the Buried Gods. Quite good. It is part of a collection so I am unsure of how far along I am, but I am guessing about 40%. I need to a) get some reading done this year and b) feel like I accomplished something!
  12. Isn't that such a relief when they start sleeping through the night? I remember those first few well lol Forgive me if you have said, but how old is he?
  13. If both you and Kylie don't like it, then maybe I shouldn't feel so bad if I abandon it I was going to come back to it. Sometime.
  14. Ditto that! Thanks for the input! Oh my, what a description! Most of these are re-reads for you, right?
  15. I think it is more me versus The Alchemist, every time I read it, I don't mind what I am reading, but it is the picking it up that is hard. I don't know why, but I don't think it is the book. This Stephen Hawking book for kids is so cool! I might have to order it for P.
  16. Hope you have a good day! My daughter is back at school today as well, so it is back to being up at 6:00am. I begin next Monday
  17. I ended up doing that myself, sort of unplanned- December 16-18th I read like, 350 pages in one day and 3 books in 3 days! It was great. Well, for me, I don't think I can say I even took part. I think a combination of post holiday depression, too many things to do and a lack of motivation killed it for me. But this is the first one I've missed in a year, so I guess I am ok
  18. High praise
  19. Gosh, I don't even know if I've heard of that one! Do you know how many there are total? I'm contemplating an Under the Dome read this year. Other than that, just some of his shorter stuff (Riding the Bullet, Girl who Loved Tom Gordon).
  20. Then, of course, your numbers are the only ones that matters
  21. Amazon cites my copy of Gone With the Wind at 1057 and Pillars of the Earth at 980.
  22. If I don't finish The Alchemist by tomorrow, I am going drop it and start World without End by Ken Follett on Monday.
  23. Are you going to continue with the King's this year? Happy New Year!
  24. This: Just so cute- you make me lol all the time, Frankie, in a good way *Sorry Brian *
