  1. I'm going to snatch that up and read it today, as a pre- The Martian read! Thanks!
  2. You made your goal!! Congrats! Looking forward to the review.
  3. I loved it! You'll just have Let it Go in your head all night
  4. My daughter is just getting over the flu that she got (thankfully or we'd thought it measles lol) the day before we got to Disneyland. She had the flu vaccine too, so. Every week, at least one of her classmates is sick. They are all just little germs!
  5. Ya, my mom had it, as well. All of my grandmother's siblings (obviously before the vacc was around) had it too. Only one of 8 had any lasting problems though, he was sterile. Schools here in our district are SUPER strict about vacc's though. Which, the way these colds and flu's are passed around, is a good thing. We have been sick since week 2 of school.
  6. Nope- just a few people joking about it At least measles are curable! No picnic though, for sure. Did you have them?
  7. Hemingway is my favorite author, I like what you had to say about his writing. His short stories are great too. So is A Moveable Feast and The Sun Also Rises. Sorry- subconsciously trying to convert you
  8. Ugh I hope The Good Earth doesn't become some drag along for you! You'll like Uncle Tom's Cabin for sure. I only saw the movie for TFiOS ... Why didn't you like the book? Thanks! I am liking it so far John Green seems to be an "expect the unexpected" author.
  9. Totally agree about both books. I would recommend The 100 Year Old Man... over TGWStKoS. I think I liked Nombeko better, but was rooting for the 100 year old man more
  10. OMGosh!! You found #2! You know you just want to get to it RIGHT NOW
  11. The Spectacular Now with Shailene Woodley. Was typical of Woodley's choice of work Which I Great ending too.
  12. Yes, Atwood, absolutely yes
  13. It is a bit strange, but so was An Abundance of Katherines. I remember you saying it was your favorite, so I decided to try it over Looking for Alaska.
  14. Admit it! You like the pain! I started on Paper Towns (John Green) to see if it can help get me out of this slump.
  15. I was extraordinarily young when I read The Thorn Birds, having stole my mom's copy and eagerly devoured it It still remains one of our favorite books.
  16. I know, I am going lalalalala to your post
  17. Why do I have Bowie's Major Tom in my head??
  18. I can't wait til I can start taking literature classes- I am thinking of a minor. But alas! I am not rich and can not go to school forever Yes, please update your thread on the new class. I am hoping to be taking the Short Story as a class next semester.
  19. I plan on getting to this soon, I am anxious to read it.
  20. I am in Los Angeles, near Hollywood in Southern California, and it was 80F/ 27C yesterday and the day before Today, it rained... and was 70F/ 21C... chilly!
  21. I'm just trying to get the pronunciation correct!
  22. We had never heard of Dogzilla before either, and had to read it 3 times to her But that is ok. Apparently, this weeks book is about a rose. Little House on the Prairie is a coming of age story of a pioneer girl that is well known in the US, I thought other places too though or that you might have heard about it from here. It was written by Laura Ingalls Wilder and is about her life. Edit: it is a collection of 9 books.
  23. This made me lol.
  24. I can't wait to buy Little House on the Prairie or Judy Blume books for P! They just started going to the school library each Friday, so she is loving that! She brought home Dogzilla last week
  25. I love politics so I will have to look into this more when I get home
