  1. Sorry you didn't like The Good Earth so much, I hope I didn't lead you astray!
  2. I started my paper with it as an attention grabbing introduction to the paper OMG Aliens was so scary! It was around the time the one with Winona Ryder came out and I was with someone who just INSISTED I had to watch the whole series before I got to see the WR one. I had the bed covers up to my chin watching that. Needless to say, I never say the WR one, Resurrection. Psycho is a good book too! That's terrible- I would probably cry too though
  3. Chicken, cranberry and spinach pita with broccoli cheese soup. yum.
  4. Oh great! I was hoping it was just the beginning! I didn't know there was a movie, either til the other day.
  5. Happy Birthday!
  6. You know, for some reason, I just like my horror in books. These were by far the most terrifying books I have read. I was just thinking, as well this morning, I am sort of the same way with violence. I can read it, but if it is racial or hate violence, it makes me really upset. I guess with reading horror, my mind doesn't get away from me, but watching it, I see it over and over in my head. The last scary movie I saw was Aliens (on video), but I can count on my one hand how many horror movies I've seen! Thanks! I really enjoyed them. It's amazing what two writers can do when they only communicate through technology. Hey! Maybe I can use that for my paper...
  7. That's rad- I hope he has to compensate you! And isn't leaving the scene of an accident a crime?
  8. Ya it is sort of a dystopian coming of age tale... sort of like The Hunger Games, but without a love triangle, its just a romance. I didn't like it, but that was because I didn't like the book to movie adaptation, but both people I saw it with (my mom and her friend) liked it a lot and my mom is looking forward to Insurgent in March (they hadn't read the books).
  9. Hey- me too I didn't even do The Giver group read, even though it's on my 2015 long short list In fact, I'd like to hop on The Mangle Street Murders, but I am so backed up because January was such a bad month for me!
  10. I am so jealous of this class you are taking!! It sounds so fun. I am hoping to take a literature class in the fall (although I don't know which yet). Hemmingway's novels are pretty much autobiographical, ya I love him
  11. Oooh- that sounds neat! I hope I can get to Firefight soon!
  12. Oi- I am guilty as well of promoting The Humans... I am surprised you haven't read it yet. How is Gathering Blue?
  13. I have finished up Season Three of Yesterday's Gone, amounting to 1,488 pages in 12 days! Started on the sample of The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold tonight and liking it so far- I mean, the concept, not exactly the graphicness/ uncomfortableness of the beginning- so I will probably continue with that.
  14. My name was Salmon, like the fish; first name, Susie. The Lovely Bones~ Alice Sebold
  15. Title: Yesterday’s Gone Season Three (Episodes 13-18) Authors: Sean Platt and David Wright Genre: Post- Apocalyptic, horror, science Fiction Age: Adult Pages 462 Ah! This series was so good! There are 6 Episodes for each Season in this self-proclaimed “Post- Apocalyptic Serial Thriller” and this is the big one, the one that lays it all out... Season Three. I guess it does turn more into a thriller in Season Three, but there is still a lot of horror. There is a lot more violence in these books than in most I’ve read and the language of a main character is extremely colorful. But you sort of get desensitized and are rewarded as Season Three tells the tale and it is quite the tale. A lot of the cool stuff about this serial I can not divulge, as it would simply spoil it. But it is fun to pick up on all the little hidden gems, as Platt and Wright play with the names of characters and with Good vs Evil themes. Season Three drags for the first time since the whole saga began, about 40% in, but most of that was the characters putting the pieces of October 15th together. Flashbacks going from before “The Event” to 5 months after, added some confusion. At the end, I smiled and sat back, fully satisfied. This was a great series that kept me riveted and frightened til the end. It is one horrific and dark tale, and one I won’t soon forget… but one that was damn fun. These three Seasons have added up to 1,488 pages for me. Edit- and props to Sean Platt and David Wright for even trying serialized fiction and introducing me to the genre!
  16. Ya , there was no way I was reading Seasons One or Two at night
  17. Did you check out his short stories on his website? http://www.galactanet.com/writing.html Just scroll down to "One Off's".
  18. OMG it seems like every time I go to Amsterdam, there is some sort of book affair going on. It totally jams the street/ alley.
  19. I am 1/2 way through Season Three of the serial, Yesterday's Gone. Although there are two more Seasons, I think this one will be my last. Hope to finish up today or tomorrow at the latest!
  20. he he he do they know you at the library yet?
  21. I forgot you were doing the Kindle Library Loan program! How is it going? lol about Hassan being the scene stealer. I loved the book (was my favorite read of last year) but so far, haven't really gotten into John Green yet. I tried Paper Towns but it didn't really catch with me, I liked the movie for The Fault in Our Stars though, but I am a big Shailene Woodley fan Might try Paper Towns again, as now my reading has come back a bit.
  22. The movie If I Stay was very well done, so well in fact, I didn't want to read the book lol I started it, but then I gave up, the movie just followed the book so closely (from what I read, so I assume the rest of the book is followed closely too).
  23. Did your book group discuss MaddAddam yet?
  24. You might not like Yesterday's Gone then I wouldn't call it a psychological thriller, but I'd classify it as violent and horror. Maybe gory might be a better description. I'm 40% through with Season Three, so review to follow soon. They go pretty fast!
