  1. That's part of it! Allegiant is sort of the controversial one of the 3, because of the author's choices. Um... by not reading The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich and Middlemarch at the same time Seriously, I couldn't hack that, you are awesome!
  2. Saw the new Cinderella. Just a simple re telling with beautiful people wearing beautiful clothes
  3. My dog is from Kerry, well, I didn't get him from Kerry, but he is a Kerry Blue Terrier. Have a good time!
  4. I always saw him as a writer for Stalin in his later years, certainly, they had a close relationship, whether a puppet one or a forced one or a true friendship. I believe it was in the gulag memoir Man is Wolf to Man where Gorky is paraded by to show how humane camps were and then, in the author's opinion, made to write a fictional article about it. I just come across Gorky in reference to his political leanings. Just someone I've never read, but read a bit of, so thanks for the review
  5. I have been seeing this on the Amazon lists lately and it just NOW clicked with me seeing the cover. I can't believe myself sometimes! The cover reminds me of Zelda
  6. Trying to watch a new show with Will Forte (Saturday Night Live) called The Last Man on Earth. It's a post apocalyptic comedy. And its pretty funny. But in a strange way, a Will Forte- Andy Samberg- Bill Hader- way.
  7. I'm eager to talk about it, so it will be interesting to hear other perceptions. I've ranted to Gaia quite a bit (thank you!) but 1- I didn't want to get all personal in the review and 2- I didn't want to ruin all his ideas and feelings for everyone else. Some books, I almost think I could do 2 reviews for- one for the board and one for me. I guess, really, the best way I can say it, is that I am not that optimistic of a person... I am not a "light at the end of the tunnel" type person, I am more "the tunnel is the life" kind.
  8. And a good one to own
  9. It goes so fast, its like yummy candy. Serious. I went through 3 Seasons (there is a conclusion). Some of it is gory, but you don't mind horror, so enjoy!
  10. I liked it too Just not the prequel.
  11. I get The Pact recommended to me every once in awhile. It's long though, isn't it? Interesting. She's like your stand by, I have this with Lee Child. Unfortunately, I am coming down to 2 left of the canon.
  12. Add to the pile(s)
  13. Great- just what I need, my first epic, with a spin off no less Oh so very Thompson I think he'd be so unpredictable, it'd be scary! You've totally sold me, I think it shall be my next read. I can't believe I've never heard of it before. It can even fit on my long- short list (a long 2015 TBR made of short books lol). So it's better than The Maze Runner, then, ya?
  14. YOU would totally LOVE The Humans!! Jump on the wagon
  15. I only read one review on Amazon and it was a gushing rave. I guess I am just not looking for reasons to stay alive I loved The Humans as well, and I still will try and get to The Radley's this year. I gave it a go on the fact it was by Haig alone, so. You might want to read it just because it is by him, about his life. I guess you could look at it that way. Except he gives advice. In any case, give the Kindle Sample a go first. *forehead still hurts*
  16. Title: Reasons to Stay Alive Author: Matt Haig Genre: Non- fiction Age: Adult Pages: 272 Dates: 3/5- 3/12 Synopsis (From Amazon): WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO FEEL TRULY ALIVE? Aged 24, Matt Haig's world caved in. He could see no way to go on living. This is the true story of how he came through crisis, triumphed over an illness that almost destroyed him and learned to live again. A moving, funny and joyous exploration of how to live better, love better and feel more alive, Reasons to Stay Alive is more than a memoir. It is a book about making the most of your time on earth. 'I wrote this book because the oldest clichés remain the truest. Time heals. The bottom of the valley never provides the clearest view. The tunnel does have light at the end of it, even if we haven't been able to see it . . . Words, just sometimes, really can set you free.' My thoughts: Well, I should have known by his line in the synopsis about clichés that I would not get along with this book, as they don’t ever fit me. I highly anticipated this book, I really enjoy Matt Haig’s writing style, was curious about how he would do with nonfiction and was also anxious to read what he had to say on the topics of depression and suicide. But I had a lot of problems with this book, the first starting out way early in it, with a personal conclusion he makes about antidepressants. The “did he just write that??” kind of moments continued for me. I understand what Haig is trying to do in this book, I just felt it wasn’t the right book for me and it took an approach I was adverse to. By the end of this book, my forehead was bloody from beating it against the wall.
  17. But on the Calvino!
  18. Oh it sounds exactly like the something I'd pick up lol This place... Kylie- there are SEVEN of them?? Have you read them all?
  19. First of all, did I just read that THE FIRM was your first English book at 11 or 12??? That's amazing, Gaia! It is especially impressive to have read The Pelican Brief and The Client, as our justice systems are so different. Yes, I'd like to know too- if I were going to read one, which should I?
  20. Just wait til you get to Allegiant, it will drive you crazy. *goes to look up Tomorrow, When the War Began*
  21. I am having a McDonalds breakfast sandwich with orange juice
  22. Scary that we are already talking about April!
  23. I can do Easter weekend, its just that Sunday will be a slow, if non existent reading day for me. I can always try to read after the day's festivities are over, although I will probably be worn out! I think we are having two egg hunts this year.
  24. It was interesting because I know so much of his work- with other authors that I know a large part of their work (Hemingway, Pearl S. Buck, T. Williams, etc) it isn't that prominent. I guess because their work wasn't self published like a lot of Howey's were at first. It looks like Wool Part 1 and I, Zombie were some of his first published material. God I hate that song! Now I will probably have it in my head today!
  25. My friend actually had to read it in law school. She said there is a lot of courtroom drama and from the 50% I read, it certainly wasn't boring, but I wasn't to the actual trial yet.
