  1. I'm doing a report on Howl by Allen Ginsberg for school, so all I hear is it to Beat generation vibes lol Go on and read it that way, it totally works
  2. Then I will be reading Hugh Howey's new The Box somewhere in there too, it's only like 15 pages
  3. Oh darn It didn't say that- grrrr. I guess I will have to find something else to read. The last short story we read by her I didn't think all that great, so maybe she is better at long form anyway.
  4. I want to read Under the Skin since it was mentioned in the Disturbing novels thread Have fun with Stone Mattress.
  5. I will be taking part, I found some short novels to read, one will be Helen Keller's The Story of My Life and Jodi Picoult short story called Where There's Smoke. And maybe Full House by Maeve Binchy.
  6. This was harder than my top 10 books! Pearl S.. Buck Stephen King Ken Follett Lee Child Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn John Steinbeck Elie Wiesel Phillip K. Dick Allison Weir Anne Applebaum
  7. Gabriel Garcia Marquez JG Ballard Louis Sacher Anya Seton Alexander Dumas Ian Fleming Gillian Flynn Shelby Foote Andy Weir Oscar Wilde
  8. I think it was better than the first and worth slogging through number two for
  9. I'm at a crossroads, I am overwhelmed by illness and have an accelerated class at school, I thought of maybe taking a book break for awhile because I am reading so slowly... but I can't stop reading Its so frustrating to only complete only 1/3rd of what I read on a normal day. I'm about 250 pages into World Without End, as I am picking it up periodically. Reading it in shifts seemed to be the best for my dilemma
  10. Good luck Noll- how exciting, will have "my fingers crossed" for you
  11. I got to see Pixar's Inside Out on opening day, a few days ago... Thursday, I believe. It was really good, I loved all the characters, Lewis Black is a really good Anger.
  12. Sand Part One: The Belt of the Buried Gods by Hugh Howey was one of the best short stories I've read outside of Shirley Jackson's, along with Andy Weir's collection. Also Burial Rights by Hannah Kent was so great, as was my first Jodi Picoult, Plain Truth. And I didn't like The Giver.
  13. I started End of the World Running Club by Adrian J Walker a few days ago. It got kind of predictable and boring, so I picked up Ken Follett's World Without End again, to continue. Maybe I am just getting tired of apocalyptic stories. Oh ya, and I dumped Wild by Cheryl Strayed... I just got tired of it and it was sort of depressing.
  14. That's odd, that it was written that way! I'm glad you are enjoying this series and I hope the Brotherband series works out!
  15. Have you not read or seen A Midsummer Nights Dream before? If not, you're in for a treat And if so, an excellent addition to a library... do you read many plays? That's too much John Grisham for me
  16. No, no, that's great, thanks I was just thinking of skimming The 100 Year Old Man... and going next month. I can't believe how many people have asked me if you have to finish the book before the meeting Um... ya, you kind of have all month! No way can I finish Wild by tomorrow night, but I just found out about this group and unfortunately I started school Monday.
  17. I am very sorry about the book club This sounds really fun! I hope you have a good time!
  18. What do you do if they pick a book you've already read? The book group I want to attend is doing The 100 Year Old Man... next and I already read it last year.
  19. I attended my US history course at college yesterday and really liked it. Since it is summer it is an intensive course- 2 hours Monday through Thursday We won't do much reading, about 20 pages a week, but the font of the book is so small, I might have to treat myself to the Kindle version (I hate carrying around the book anyway). So with that and papers due, I don't think I will be finishing Wild by the book club date, in fact, I might have to settle for no book club
  20. Wild is sad! Just over 125 pages in, I can't imagine where it will go in the next 200. I'll be interested on hearing the book club's opinions, since it is my first time, I intend to just sit and listen
  21. ^^ for TTV! Is the 3rd one already out?
  22. I've had it on my TBR for awhile now too, want to see the movie also, as the Pacific Coast Trail in practically my backyard! It was selected as a book club read by a group I want to start on the 18th.
  23. Holes was one of the books I took on vacation, although I didn't get to it Started Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Coast Trail by Cheryl Strayed. Wow- 24 pages in and I am crying.
  24. I've never seen Judy Blume's work for children before... usually she wrote for young teens with books like Are You There God, its Me, Margaret or Blubber.
  25. My dog ate some of my signed Clive Barker's as a puppy
