  1. 1984 will change your life! Or at least, the way you look at it.
  2. I'm enjoying my first copy of BBC History Magazine. Will finish out January with it.
  3. Just finished Starship Troopers and I LOVED it!! Now I have to figure out if I want to see the movie. Can't imagine how they did it. Dunno what is next yet, but I just downloaded my first- and much anticipated- BBC History Magazine and I think I will spend the last day of January sans book, but with the rest of this magazine!
  4. Went to the theater to see Lone Survivor. Wow. This movie really p'd me off. What the h e double toothpicks are we doing over there? For god's sake. On a "review"... I'd recommend it. Actually, the book is supposed to be even better and its on my TBR list. I had intended on reading it first, but we were afraid it would leave the theater. Anyway, its amazing anyone survived that at all. Mark Wahlberg was excellent, as always and Emile Hersch (one of my favorite actors) could've had a better role than the one he was given. As to how I feel about the movie its self... well, see above. Based on a true story.
  5. Peter Pan 99 cents. http://www.amazon.com/Peter-Pan-Adventures-Illustrated-Kensington-ebook/dp/B00FP4D3LO/ref=sr_1_5?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1391069121&sr=1-5&keywords=peter+pan or http://www.amazon.com/Peter-Pan-J-M-Barrie-ebook/dp/B00EG12DTK/ref=sr_1_4?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1391069121&sr=1-4&keywords=peter+pan
  6. Laura Ingalls Wilder's books. I had them all and read and re read them all. Can't wait til they are released on Kindle. I check ever now and again...
  7. The one by Keith Luethke? If so, there are a ton of sequels, so maybe not. Darn, how many Zombie Apocalypse books are there lol
  8. From the Mixed Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankenweiler, by E.L. Konigsburg about a girl who runs away and hides in the Metropolitan Museum in New York. It was one of my favorite books as a very young reader and just set my imagination on fire! Otherwise Known as Sheila the Great by Judy Bloom would be another, as I read and re-read that book over and over. I loved it because, other than The Long Winter by Laura Ingalls Wilder, it was the longest book I owned as a kid (150pgs lol)
  9. Picked up When I Found You by Catherine Ryan Hyde for special Kindle price. Sounds excellent. From the author of Pay it Forward. One morning, childless, middle aged Nathan McCann finds a newborn in the woods. Nathan wants to keep the child, but his grandmother steps in and convinces him to give up the child. 15 yrs later, Nat- the child he found- turns up on his doorstep. Sounds like a fresh change from the Horror/ Science Fiction kick I've been on lately!
  10. The Shinning is $1.99.
  11. Clive Barker comes close to being my favorite author. I've read a lot of his work, attended a lecture by him and also attended a bookstore event. I met him both times. Once, I brought him Forums of Heaven, his book of one act plays, to sign (my dog chewed this up as a puppy.) He asked me "Oh- you brought the plays?" with a big smile and I was dumbfounded. I can't even remember my reply, but I know it was something lame lol That was long ago, like when Galilee came out. I remember he did a signing after the lecture and this guy brought in a HUGE framed copy of the Imagica cover for him to sign. So cool. Edited to add this was the image of the Imagica cover https://www.google.com/search?q=clive+barker+imajica&hl=en&qscrl=1&rlz=1T4GGNI_enUS541US541&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=KRvnUsaVK5GEogS7nIGAAw&sqi=2&ved=0CAcQ_AUoAQ&biw=965&bih=460#facrc=_&imgdii=_&imgrc=4gsxwtHl5ovlpM%253A%3BrdM47SbHxtp0IM%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fmedia.tumblr.com%252F7312bcb5bce8b6978d44807918ae428e%252Ftumblr_inline_mlbq8iwSzx1qz4rgp.jpg%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fjoshboonemovies.tumblr.com%252Fpost%252F48086900096%252Fsince-stuck-in-love-is-about-writers-and-im%3B400%3B440
  12. No I haven't read that one yet, I have the sample on my Kindle. I also bought Twittering from the Circus of the Dead. Have you ever heard of this book of his before? It's just a Kindle Single though. Anyway, one review cracked me up..."Woke up at 2am, couldn't get back to sleep, read this in the dark. Terrible decision, fantastic story." That's a great point- exactly what needs to happen for him. Totally makes sense!
  13. About 18% into Starship Troopers. It will be nice to read something under 500pgs for once!
  14. Do you have a favorite book? Welcome to the board!
  15. You all make me wanna go back to school!
  16. That sounds like a really fun major! Fun, but a ton of work! Congrats!
  17. Because of the March reading circle nominations, I stared Starship Troopers and the Sample is really good! I'm sure you all will pick Dune though, it's currently leading Might read Dune anyway if it's picked, as I've never done a reading circle before. Not sure I'm up for a 900pg book though.
  18. *mouth drops open* I didn't even KNOW they were making a movie! Good for Joe Hill. Daniel Radcliffe, as I have been told by the media ha ha, has a lot of range. He's definitely NOT what I picture when I pictured Ig, but I might go see it, depending on how it looks. I guess I'm willing to give it a chance but...not feelin the Radcliffe. Too bad though, I think no one will ever see him as anything but Harry Potter. What do you think about the casting? Just reading the Wiki and Joe Hill praises Radcliffe.
  19. I have his collected works (99 us cents on Kindle), but I have yet to get to them. I hope to start them this year. But I have Grimm's Fairy Tales to begin as well. I saw your post on books being expensive and I'm not sure how it would work in your country, but you should consider an Amazon Kindle or e-reader, even if you don't like them. I was against them too, until I got one as a gift. They are great on eyesight, being able to adjust the font size, color, etc. If you can afford the Amazon Paperwhite, that is the best as it has a back light that really helps as well. Again, I'm not sure what is available to you, but seriously look into it. In the US and the UK, Kindle has daily specials and free books- mostly classics.
  20. Finished Abarat by Clive Barker and now I'm not sure what is next!
  21. Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit (written by Tom Clancy) The two people I saw it with liked it a lot, I thought it was just ok. Some silly/ cheesy moments (like talking on a cell phone while on a motorcycle during a high speed chase). Keira Knightly was good.
  22. Done with Clive Barker's Abarat... now on to... I'm not sure! Reading the sample to Life After Life by Kate Atkinson, so we'll see if I can get into it.
  23. Was In the Tall Grass good? I LOVE Horns.
  24. Readers of Divergent will love this guy. All others will probably appreciate this anyway. All of us may cringe. Check out his video, mid page. http://mustang-wanted.com/ It's almost like he read the book, with some of his stunts. Makes my heart race lol
  25. Thanks! I cant wait to read them! And to re-read Joe Hill's Horns, as it is one of my fav books. Still on sale in the US, was posted on Kindle deals in the UK too so it might be on sale until its release on the 28th.
