  1. How was When We Were Older?
  2. It depends on what I am reading, but yes, I usually read with my computer at my right hand and my Kindle on the left. This was especially true this year with The Fountainhead (with Objectivism) and Elie Wiesel's Memoirs (which focused a lot on Judaism and the history and events of Israel). Interesting about the names in Crime and Punishment... I sometimes Wiki my books too, especially with symbolism like the yellow meaning mental illness. I also love looking up words and really enjoy the feature on my Kindle that can do it almost instantly.
  3. Well, this should take me to the read a thon. So I will have something easier. Then we will have the Maze Runner read. So it's all downhill from here I might do a CRH in there too somewhere. Or, I was thinking about The Humans, which is getting a tad bit of talk around here lately. Maybe that for the December read a thon, as it is only 320 pages. I know I want to read Wool asap, possibly in January, after I re read A Handmaids Tale (which is short and I did not find strange at all). I'm already planning next year Here will be my "roll over" list, from 2014 to 2015: Salt by Colin F. Barnes (own it) World Without End by Ken Follett (Own it) Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver something by Clive Barker Where We Belong- Catherine Ryan Hyde When You Were Older- Catherine Ryan Hyde The Boy From Reactor 4- Orest Stelmach Choke by Chuck Palahniuk A Time to Kill by John Grisham I, Claudius by Robert Graves (Own it) Wool by Hugh Howey
  4. Now I am 15% in and it is getting strange again!
  5. Not very far, but into it this morning... about 50 pages in. But I didn't read in it at all yesterday
  6. Maybe that would be a good follow up!
  7. The Amazon descriptions of The Humans, The Radleys and Mr. Cave, are very interesting. Thanks for adding to the sample pile, folks.
  8. I'd be interested in reading your thoughts. I saw an old thread about A Handmaids Tale and if I remember, you weren't that impressed (I wasn't either)?
  9. I looked through, did you do one for Horns yet?
  10. Well, I did vote for it Here is my review of NOS4A2, I like longer books too. http://www.bookclubforum.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/12425-annas-books-for-2014/page-5#entry386665
  11. We usually do everything smallish around here too. We have such a small family that any major holiday is still minor. We usually end up at Disneyland for my birthday, but that is just a matter of timing, not specifically for my birthday. I'm too old to celebrate another year
  12. Wow! I wonder how much you'll end up with by the end of the year!!
  13. NOS4A2 is great, definitely my favorite, but can be daunting in size, yet goes by pretty quick. I'm sorry you didn't like Horns, Laura
  14. I am hoping to really spend some Saturday time with MaddAddam, perhaps finishing it in the next few days.
  15. Ugh, I totally struggled with Oryx and Crake and Year of the Flood was even worse! MaddAddam is proving to be real easy (so far). She's just so... I don't know. So different from anything I've read. (oh and I HATED Handmaids Tale!)
  16. IMO, if you liked Handmaid's Tale, you will probably like Oryx and Crake. It's pretty good. The second in the trilogy is difficult, right up til the end, but I am finding MaddAddam to be a TON easier. I love chatting about Atwood, so if you do pick up Oryx and Crake, you can always post in my thread They are a bit difficult to read, but it pays off, at least, so far. This is my fourth Atwood. I want to read Alias Grace and Stone Mattress some time too.

  18. Ya I do like TV as well. I would be interested in HBO's service though. I hope you are right about the single channels doing a subscription, cable is astronomical these days here and I hate paying for channels I don't want!
  19. I didn't know they were starting a new series! Do you know if David Lynch is directing as he did with the original? I wish they would do a 25 years after Northern Exposure.
  20. Steven King compares current IS (Islamic State) and state of the world with 1984. http://live.huffingtonpost.com/r/highlight/stephen-king-the-world-is-starting-to-looks-like-1984/54232abe78c90a4f89000370?cn=tbla
  21. Counting Crows- St. Robinson in his Cadillac Dream, live at Heineken Music Hall, 2003
  22. One of the scariest movies I've ever seen!
