  1. As mentioned a week ago, the Humble Indie Ebook Bundle II has added some books to their bundle: Ryan North - Machine of Death Holly Black - The Poison Eaters and Other Stories They also added a third one but I already have this one from the previous Humble Ebook Bundle. I don't know much about these books, but GoodReads tells me that Machine of Death is a short story collection and one of the stories is written by an author I really like, Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw. I loved his two books so I particularly look forward to read his short story. I've heard good things about Holly Black so will have to see if I like her writing.
  2. Could someone pin this topic and unpin and lock the June one? I'm reading Nick Hornby - The Complete Polysyllabic Spree and nothing on the Kindle. I'll probably be picking my next read soon, I'm not sure yet what though I'm leading towards another information book (non-fiction). I find it easier to read one fiction and one non-fiction book as opposed to reading two fiction books.
  3. Your photos don't show up for me, poppyshake . I'm not sure why.
  4. I felt the same way! After reading it I had to read some short books in between, still am reading some shorter books. I hope soon I'll have the courage to read a bigger book again and tackle the second book, A Clash of Kings. Congrats on being over the half way mark !
  5. I'm sorry to hear about your brother, Devi . It must be terrible to lose him at so young an age. @ julie That's pretty stupid that you have to wait another week, it must be difficult I hope you can deal with it okay .
  6. I thought so too! It's great to read that though .
  7. Lots of people sell books on Ebay or Amazon but I don't know if it's worth the hassle or not. Personally I'm more inclined to give a lot of my copies to the charity shop. It does depend though if the condition of your books is good or very used and how close the post office is, or wherever you have to go to get them send (I have no idea, I've never sold anything online). Hopefully someone else can help you better.
  8. Have fun in Croatia! I also like the Kate Bush song, I haven't read the book nor do I know much about it (it is on my shelf though), but my dad used to listen to this song a lot (he has an album of her but I don't know the title or which other songs are on it).
  9. This is on my shelf but I haven't read it yet. Glad to hear you liked it, nice review !
  10. @ poppyshake Wow, Molly is beautiful! @ Eleonora I can see your Lily !! She looks so cute!
  11. I was browsing Kindle Buffet today and found out Susan Hatler - Truth or Date was free for Kindle! All the books that I've read by this author (which is most of them) I quite liked, so I'm quite excited that this one is free for the moment .
  12. Peter Pan is on my shelf, look forward to hear what you think! I'm almost finished with the For Dummies book on the Kindle, not sure yet what my next Kindle read will be, perhaps another For Dummies book or a self-help book or maybe one of the short story collections I have on there, or hmmm.. XD
  13. I didn't enjoy Songs of the Humpback Whale all that much (the others I read I really enjoyed), I abandoned it half way through but it might've been my mood at the time. I'll try again at a later time. Thanks have fun reading it! Not sure yet which Picoult I'm going to read next, maybe The Pact as well since you say it's so good.. EDIT: Whoops just read in another thread that you finished the book, I'm glad you enjoyed it.
  14. That's great to hear! I haven't read The Pact yet but it's on my TBR. I should really read another book by her sometime soon, though I did read Lone Wolf earlier in the year I believe. I'm really glad you're enjoying The Pact, frankie .
  15. That could be true, yes!
  16. I downloaded a free Kindle book: Mark Woods and Trapper Woods - Attack Your Day! Before it Attacks You. I've never read a Time Management book before and have no idea if it'll be of any use to me. However it was free so I thought it'd be a good place to start to see if it'll perhaps be helpful or not. If I don't like it I can easily delete it off my Kindle again, I don't know how long it will be free so that's why I decided to go for it. I try to check Kindle Buffet for new free books, not every day but now and then. I'm currently reading Nick Hornby - The Complete Polysyllabic Spree, it's quite good so far (although I haven't read most of the books mentioned so far).
  17. I'm reading Nick Hornby - The Complete Polysyllabic Spree. According to GoodReads this is part one in the series, however on Wikipedia it lists The Polysyllabic Spree going upto 2004, whereas my Complete goes until 2006. Is it all the books in the series, or the first two or something, does anyone know? I'm quite liking it so far, although I haven't heard of most of the books he's read so far. I've added a few books to my wishlist XD.
  18. I wasn't sure if a general discussion on reading challenges should be in the Reading Challenges forum or in the General Book Discussions forum, so feel free to move it if I made the wrong choice. I see several people on here doing one or even multiple Reading Challenges. I think it's great that these people are challenging themselves, based on countries, famous lists, literature, etc. However for me, at least with my busy schedule lately, I couldn't handle the pressure of doing a reading challenge (or any other kind of challenge for that matter). Maybe in a while this will be different (I hope to be less stressed at least) but right now I don't want to do it. I want to enjoy reading and read what I feel like reading, not what I think I should read (other than literature for university). So if I feel like reading a work that's not so famous, not so literary or whatever other reason, then I just want to do so. Now I'm very proud of all of you who do do reading challenges and who manage to succeed in them! So don't take this as any sort of critisism on what you're doing or any bad comments on your progress or anything. I'm simply saying I don't think it's for me. I've never tried it though, I didn't know about reading challenges before I joined this forum. Right now I just couldn't handle the pressure, and even once I become less stressed I might just want to enjoy reading what I feel like at that specific moment. If that happens to be a famous literary book (for example) that is on many lists, then so be it. And of course I want to read all the unread books on my shelves (and reread ones I have read). And I did say in my reading thread that I'd try to read more of this or that this year. But right now I'm just reading what I feel like reading (I should point out that I have read some of what I stated in my thread I'd try to read). Even making a TBR-soon can be difficult, as it depends on my mood. Right now the TBR-soon contains books of various genres, so if I'm in the mood for science-fiction right now the book I might read would be Replay (because I've heard a lot about it from others on this forum). However I might not be in the mood for science-fiction for a while. It by Stephen King has been on the TBR-soon for several months now, but it's big and horrory and I haven't been in the mood yet. For a read-a-thon I do prefer to have a TBR-soon otherwise I might lose too much time spent on trying to pick a book from all the books on my shelves. How do you deal with a reading challenge or making a long-term reading plan? Anyway, I applaud all of you who are doing one or multiple reading challenges but I don't think it's quite for me .
  19. I'm glad to hear you really liked the Farseer trilogy ! I think I will start with that one, since she wrote that first if I'm correct (that's how they're arranged on my shelf anyway). Nice to hear that they're not hard to read. I loved A Game of Thrones! I plan on reading the second book soon. I love the book more than the TV series, while the TV series is good, the book adds more scenes and details that made things clearer for me, that added to the story. You already know the main parts of the plot if you've seen the TV series though of course. I hope you have fun reading the books if you decide to read them sometime.
  20. Tom Sawyer is on my TBR, I look forward to hear what you think of it .
  21. I hope you like it! Have you read any other books by Robin Hobb? (apologies if this has been mentioned before ) I have most of her books on my shelf but not read any yet, because they are series and I didn't want to start a new fantasy series until I've finished an old one (ie. Wheel of Time). However I did start A Game of Thrones because I started to watch the TV series.. I look forward to read your thoughts on A Ship of Magic .
  22. poppyshake, that's pretty amazing! Well done .
  23. Those are beautiful pictures, however the price is steep so I fully understand you won't be buying it, I wouldn't do so either.
  24. M.L. Stedman - The Light Between Oceans is on my TBR. I don't actually know a lot about this book, I saw it for cheap and it sounded interesting . I hope it's good though! It has some good reviews on GoodReads. x x I understand, that makes sense. I am the same, I buy much more than I read too. I do plan on tackling this in the future once I'm less stressed etc. If you're not poor though and you're not running out of space, if it makes you feel better and it's not too out of control, I don't think buying a bit more than what one reads is a bad thing. For example, I couldn't deal with having a very small TBR. But I do think I should try and buy less compared with what I read (my first solution will probably be to read more rather than to buy less XD). x x I fully agree. I hope it will be okay .
  25. That's nice to hear . I've put A Scanner Darkly on my wishlist, it sounds pretty good!
