  1. I would love to be able to do that (have the choice, at least) , but I can't. Your reasoning makes sense though, frankie .
  2. x No, I haven't. Am I correct in that Darkly Dreaming Dexter is the first one (this is what GoodReads says)? x x I fully agree with you, this can be very annoying in my opinion. x x Nice to hear it all worked out ! Normally with my birthday, sometimes I order the stuff I want, since my parents don't know as much about it as me, and then I tell them how much it cost. Sometimes they arrange stuff with my boyfriend, that he orders things and they pay him. They always go out to the shops and buy some things there for me too (that you can't as easily get online or that they just come across and think I'll like). Generally it's pretty hard for anyone to give me a book (unless they have my book list or are my friend on GR etc), since they don't know what I already have or what I've already read and liked/disliked. So I usually make a little wishlist of things I'd like to get for my birthday. I'll try and remember to congratulate you in mid-December! x x Good luck!! It's going to be difficult but I hope it will feel nice that you'll have more of a balance. We'll try and support you here . x x I'm so glad you had a great trip, it's nice to read about your experience! x x I wish you a lot of luck and fun! I met my boyfriend via the internet, though not via a dating website (it was actually via a forum). Of course you should be careful and see if a person is really what you want, but it is possible imo to find love online (and then meet up). I hope things work out for you, you deserve it .
  3. Nice review ! I've wishlisted this book.
  4. That one's on my shelf (unread) so I look forward to hear what you think! I have a paperback version that contains From the Earth to the Moon and Around the Moon.
  5. x I look forward to hear what you think of The Street Lawyer. It's on my shelf and one of the John Grisham books I haven't yet read. x x I hope you find some nice books ! Good luck with your studying, it sounds quite difficult to me (but then again maybe Chemistry'd sound difficult to you etc). Thanks for posting the list, it's really nice to get a bit of an impression of what you're doing.
  6. I've always been quite interested in the Roman civilisation (I had several courses on it at secondary school), looks like a good book!
  7. I see you also have a lot of Charles Dickens' work left to read! I haven't read any yet, though I own a lot of them (maybe all?). I keep finding it daunting for some reason, but Oliver Twist is on my soon-to-be-read pile so hopefully I'll find some courage sometime. I hope you enjoy all your books .
  8. Welcome here ! My brother's girlfriend will be going to Chile very soon for half a year. She's studying Spanish at a university here in the Netherlands and will be following some courses at a university in Chile. What kind of books do you like to read?
  9. My favourite books so far are: Robert Jordan, Brandon Sanderson - Wheel Of Time #13: Towers Of Midnight George R. R. Martin - A Song of Ice and Fire 1: A Game of Thrones Kristin Hannah - Home Front Sophie Kinsella - Twenties Girl Nicholas Sparks - The Notebook 2: The Wedding John Grogan - Marley & Me Rereads this year: Sinéad Moriarty - The Baby Trail Sinéad Moriarty - A Perfect Match Sinéad Moriarty - From Here to Maternity Roald Dahl - Matilda Roald Dahl - The Witches Roald Dahl - Charlie and the Chocolate Factory I didn't list any non-fiction books, though I have read quite a few good ones, ie. about stress or in the For Dummies series (I can provide a list if anyone wants to see). Great idea for a thread ! It's so nice to think back of these books and how I enjoyed them! It's also great to read what everyone else enjoyed, it's always nice to find more recommendations .
  10. @ Talismann Glad it's going a bit better! @ muggle Have fun!
  11. Yes, it is on the 5th 6th 7th of July, so no worries poppyshake and chesilbeach!
  12. I'm not so knowledgable in historical fiction (I haven't read a lot of books in the genre), but what time period do you like to read about? Some of my favourite authors in the genre include Jean M. Auel (prehistory), Penny Vincenzi (more for women than men, 20th century) and Thea Beckman (Dutch Young-Adult author, most of her books were not translated into English as far as I know, except for Kruistocht in Spijkerbroek (Crusade in Jeans, medieval) the time period depends on which book or series you select to read). These are all authors of whom I've read multiple books. Singular books I enjoyed Michel Faber - The Crimson Petal and the White (Victorian era). There are books by other authors still on my shelf, such as Ken Follet, Elizabeth Chadwick and Catherine Cookson. Then of course there are the classics, I don't know if they can be seen as historical fiction or not (the ones that were, for its time, contemporary fiction). Many play in the 17-18-19-20th century. I haven't read a lot of them yet, most are still on my shelf. What time period(s) do you enjoy, or multiple?
  13. I find I'm still tense and stressed, it makes sense though since there's the final presentation in a bit. It's hard to believe but in ~ two weeks it'll be over.. I'm worried though that I might still be a bit stressed afterwards, since sometimes it can take some time to de-stress. We call it 'after-stress' in Dutch (na-stress), does anyone know what I'm talking about? After my presentation, I plan to at some time, look at things for a holiday (well, both of us will look). I had a brilliant time last year, though I don't know if I'll enjoy it just as much this time, I don't think that's possible maybe. But it'll be good if we just enjoy ourselves at least. It's a bit difficult because both of us get tired, from different things, so we have to take lots of things into account and can't do too much if either or both of us are feeling tired (in our own ways). Going on a holiday is difficult for me, since it's a different environment, sleeping area etc. than what I'm used to. So it's scary but I'm also excited for it. A while ago we were thinking of going on holidays in the UK, since that's somewhat familiar to me, there are things I may want to see (I like the UK) and they speak English there. But we'll have to see. At some point in my life there are also places further away I'd like to go to, but we'll have to see if it happens or not, eventually. I look forward to going to the UK anyway.
  14. Welcome here ! I hope you enjoy it here.

    Hello

    Welcome here !
  16. x So far I like it a lot! I'm about 100+ pages into the book, I look forward to hear your thoughts too . x x Thank you ! x x Thanks ! x x Do you know why they've translated the later ones before the first two? It doesn't make much sense to me, I tried to find the first two but couldn't (at least not in the Amazon Kindle Store). Lately I really like my Kindle for travelling, but I find that overall I love tree books the best. I tend to mainly read Kindle only books on the Kindle, information books (easy for highlighting) or short stories (or if the Kindle version is a lot cheaper than the tree book version, sometimes). I have yet to read a book on it that's more than 400 pages, I do have a few though so in due time..
  17. x That's great to hear, that you like those ! I'll be sure to post my thoughts on it when I read it.
  18. How many books do you own, do you know that?
  19. Welcome here ! It's nice to meet a teacher, it's not a profession I could do due to my disability and what not but I think it's a nice thing to hear about from other people (does that make sense?), I like to hear about people's experiences with children. THird grade, what age will those children be? (I'm from the Netherlands, we have a different school system) You read a lot of genres . I also don't like westerns or inspirational / Christian books. Nice to hear about some of your favourite classic authors, many of those you mentioned I have a book of on the shelf but not read yet. For some reason I find the classics a bit daunting but I'd love to read more of them so I'll get around to them eventually. I mean, many people who are younger than me (I'm 27) have read them and understood them so I think it should be okay (hopefully). Feel free to post your reading progress in the Your Book Activity thread and to make a reading log in the Reading Lists / Blogs section if you want to. I'd love to read what you think of the books you read or to talk more about books. (I do love to talk about books..) I love the fantasy genre for example (among several other genres), so I'd love to hear some of your recommendations / thoughts (we have a topic about it in the Horror / Supernatural / Fantasy / Sci-Fi section, come to think of it I don't believe I've posted much it in but not sure..). I wish you a lot of fun here and with reading!
  20. I hope you like it, I liked it a lot !
  21. It's very sad .. I haven't read any of his books but I might do so at some point, I've heard good things about them. Very sad he died .
  22. I'm reading The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry by Rachel Joyce (as well as a For Dummies book on the Kindle). I'm 100+ pages into the book and it's really enjoyable.
  23. If you like the show, you'll like the book too I think! I love the book more than the show (mainly because of the fact that there's less violence and nudity in it). The book explains some things better than the show does, in my opinion. It has some extra scenes not shown in the show that really add to it. I hope you like the book (both of you!).
  24. I'm glad to hear they're good! Thanks .
  25. Taking a photo of a haul is a great idea. I might have to do that too when I have one next (of tree books) .
