  1. Yeah she died a while ago . Her son wrote a few books in the series too, perhaps he still does, I don't know.
  2. x Me too!
  3. I hope you like Replay !
  4. They were good though I liked the first one the most. There's six of them, I haven't read the last two before. I'm going to start at the beginning and read all six over a period of time, at some point. EDIT: Here's a list: Jean M. Auel - Earth's Children 1: The Clan Of The Cave Bear Jean M. Auel - Earth's Children 2: The Valley Of Horses Jean M. Auel - Earth's Children 3: The Mammoth Hunters Jean M. Auel - Earth's Children 4: The Plains Of Passage Jean M. Auel - Earth's Children 5: The Shelters Of Stone Jean M. Auel - Earth's Children 6: The Land Of Painted Caves
  5. I'm glad you enjoyed reading the summary and analysis . I understand, it sounds like a lot of fun to play around with the Kindle Fire (I don't have a tablet, I do have a smartphone though). I hope you'll have a good year reading this year, it's not a race of who reads the most, as long as you enjoy what you read and have read, that's the most important thing, in my opinion. Though it is nice to better oneself and read more than previously !
  6. The only fantasy / humour that comes to mind, is written by Terry Pratchett. Is he the author or is it someone else?
  7. x That's pretty amazing, congrats !
  8. Nice ! I always love seeing people's book shelves.
  9. Great progress, all of you ! Here's mine for yesterday: Saturday 65 mins, 120 pages, Lillian Jackson Brown - Cat Who... 29: De Kat die 60 Snorharen Had (abandoned) 40 mins, 95 pages, Saskia Noort - Afgunst 30 mins, 48 pages, Charlotte Brontë, Penko Gelev and Fiona Macdonald - Graphic Classics: Jane Eyre 50 mins, 128 pages, Anke de Vries - Kladwerk (re-read) 80 mins, 119 pages, J. K. Rowling - Harry Potter 5: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix Total: 4 h 15 mins, 510 pages I read for quite a bit, though not as long as I thought I had. I enjoyed the books I read, except the one I abandoned.
  10. x I hope you enjoy them ! x x Exciting! I hope you enjoy it .
  11. I'm interested in all of them. Thanks in advance if you do post overseas !
  12. Is it fantasy?
  13. Thanks, all of you ! My read-a-thon went well yesterday, I read four short books. I plan to read more today.
  14. Tim, that's so exciting !
  15. I'm glad to hear you liked Clan of the Cave Bear! When I read the first four for the first time, as a teenager, I liked the first one the most, but I don't know what it'll be like these days. I look forward to finding out when I read the whole series.
  16. I'm glad you liked Unwind! Nice review . I hope your mojo will keep being good.
  17. x I hope you enjoy your new books !
  18. You've been reading a lot of books so far, and liked most of them, great ! Great reviews, too .
  19. Thanks ! I hope you like the book.
  20. Ah! That's nice, though shame you couldn't request a copy.
  21. I'm glad you liked the summary read . I read the book for secondary school, English class, when I was a teenager. I don't remember a lot from it but at the time I liked it. I might re-read it some time and see how I get on with it these days. How many books did you read last year?
  22. Nice progress, Dex ! Here's my progress for yesterday: Friday 50 mins, 125 pages, Minette Walters - The Mysterious Death of Caroline Luard 10 mins, 60 pages, Roald Dahl - The Enormous Crocodile (re-read) 55 mins, 138 pages, Ann M. Martin - The BabySitter's Club 9: The Ghost at Dawn's House (re-read) 75 mins, 121 pages, Alan Bennett - The Uncommon Reader Total: 3h 20 mins, 444 pages I read and finished four small books, all of which were enjoyable . Judging by my time though I didn't spend too long reading in total. It felt like longer!
  23. This sounds very nice! While I'd much rather read on my own, I'd much rather read at a Silent-Reading Party rather than sit in a café full with chattering people. Nice find .
  24. x For me the cover is important. It's one of the things that first attracks me to a new book I haven't heard of before (if I'm in a shop or something..). If I like the look of the cover or I'm intruiged somehow (because something on the cover says this is a story you might like or it's something I've not seen before etc.) I'll read the synopsis on the back (I have a strong preference for smaller paperbacks so it'd have to be a paperback preferably). The synopsis is even more important than the cover, it depends if it sounds like a book I'd like to read. Recommendations from people I know (such as the people on this forum) are also important, if I've heard good things of it anywhere. Lastly the price does play a part too. At full-price I'm less likely to pick up a book that I don't know if I'll like. In that case I will generally read reviews first online to see if it sounds like a book for me, if I hadn't heard of it before I came across it. If the book has a good price or is on sale I'm more likely to buy it. That might sound silly perhaps , but there are many genres and books I'm interested in. Crime and thrillers are not on the top of the list so I don't tend to buy them that often, since there are other genres I like more. I used to really like thrillers but not so much anymore, I have enough stress in real life that I don't want too much tension in my books, if that makes sense. I own quite a few thrillers, most of which were bought many years ago (most of which are Dutch-translated thrillers). More recently I got interested in crime again and started to buy more crime books (I had read some when I was a teenager but not since a while), some of which are written by Dutch authors and some of which are written by non-Dutch authors. I hope this helps you in any way. I'm probably not really your target audience since I only read crime and thrillers now and then and mainly read other genres, but maybe it helps nonetheless a bit.
  25. I hope you enjoy your next read, whichever one you pick (or maybe first one, then the other ) . I agree about the TBR pile, I also find it exciting to see the (hopefully) wonderful reads still to come.
