  1. x That's an interesting way to think ! If you buy any new books I hope you enjoy them . I find it difficult to go for a long time without buying books, my resolve lasted 18 days and on the 19th day I bought books. My plan is to not buy much books nor spend too much money in February after I've been to the book fair (hopefully it should keep me from buying books for a while). I don't really have many tips though.. for me it helps to avoid the shops and to avoid sites like Amazon but sometimes you need to go to a nearby shop or you feel a strong urge to go and order books. I stopped worrying about my TBR long ago, it's so big it could take me quite some time to get through it all (I wouldn't want to have no TBR, that'd make me really anxious). That said I do am a quick reader so that works in my advantage (but still..). Good luck with your resolve !
  2. Great review, Steve! Shame it wasn't as good as some of his later works, but it sounds intruiging though .
  3. Great review, it sounds like an interesting read . I might have to keep my eye on it. Does it have some sort of an ending or does it end on a cliffhanger (please without spoiling, of course)?
  4. Sorry to hear the read was rubbish BB . I hope your next read will be better.
  5. I have Wives and Daughters, North and South, Mary Barton and Return To Cranford: Cranford And Other Stories on my TBR. Have you read any of these, KM? Sorry to hear you didn't enjoy the one you read very much though, that's not nice . I hope your next read will be more enjoyable .
  6. x That's great to hear, thanks !
  7. Someone told me the novels are quite different from the films. I haven't actually seen a lot of James Bond films to be honest, but do you think I'd like the novels. I would've bought them on Kindle on a sale but Amazon.com said they weren't available in my region, then I lost interest. It'd great to hear there's no sexual antics in the books, this is one of the things that puts me off the films.
  8. Nice review of In One Person and the other books, I have that one on my TBR.
  9. My favourite genres (at the moment) are fantasy, science-fiction, contemporary fiction and chick-lit. I also like some detectives, historical fiction, information books, biographies, manga, literature, horror, paranormal and thrillers. I try to vary my reading between genres that I like.
  10. I bought some more books , all of them at the charity shop except the last three. Elizabeth George - Inspector Lynley 9: Deception On His Mind Elizabeth George - Inspector Lynley 5: For The Sake Of Elena Simon Kent - The Doctor on Bean Street Jan Houdijk - Raven: Roman Over Een Jagerszoon In Het Stenen Tijdperk Dagmar Geisler - Vriendjes Verboden (Wer Küsst Schon Unter Wasser?) Jonny Zucker - Tina Topper 78: Evi - Stuntmeid! J. E. Bright - Tina Topper 79: Háár Vriendje... En Ik - (Your Best Friend's Boyfriend) Mirjam Oldenhave - Tina Supertopper 8: Ik, Ik! Thea Beckman - Saartje Tadema Anke de Vries - Kladwerk Michel Houellebecq - Elementaire Deeltjes (Les Particules Élémentaires) Per Petterson - Paarden Stelen (Ut Og Stjæle Hester) Carl Hiaasen - Uil (Hoot) I've actually read some of the YA ones when I was a teenager and it should be good to read them again. Here's a photo (kind of reverse order):
  11. x Thanks ! No I don't think it's the actor, it says on the book the author's a psychologist.
  12. x That's great to hear , it's the same here!
  13. Garth Stein - The Art of Racing in the Rain (my cover has a different quote on it) Genre: Contemporary fiction Format: Paperback Pages: 321 Synopsis (Goodreads): A heart-wrenching but deeply funny and ultimately uplifting story of family, love, loyalty, and hope, The Art of Racing in the Rain is a beautifully crafted and captivating look at the wonders and absurdities of human life...as only a dog could tell it. My thoughts: This book has been recommended to me by several people here on BCF, I think I bought it upon Frankie's recommendation last year. After reading something historical I felt like reading something contemporary. First off, this book is written from the point of view of Enzo, a dog. I thought this was a brilliant way to tell the story. On occasion I wondered if dogs would really think this way, it seemed a bit unrealistic, but most of the time it was excellent. I love Enzo. It was interesting to read about the characters. I liked all of the main characters. I loved how the racing techniques were applied to the lives of the characters. This was very well done! There were quite a few great, unexpected plot twists that I didn't see coming. The writing style is great and I loved reading this book. My mojo wasn't always feeling like it beforehand but once I read more than a few pages the story pulled me in. Overall I loved this book. Enzo in particular is a great character and I loved his POV. You've got to love Enzo! Rating: ***** (10/10)

I wish we had something like World Book Night.. it sounds like fun .
  15. Congrats on the new books! I hope you (both) enjoy them !
  16. x I loved The Clan of the Cave Bear! I plan on reading it again some time when I'm in the mood. I've never read it in English before but several times in Dutch when I was younger. I hope you enjoy the book .
  17. Great statistics ! I hope you'll get more time for reading at some point.
  18. Frankie, it's really nice of the library to send you a card! I hope you enjoy your new book . I'm an introvert too and understand what you (Frankie) and you (Marie) are talking about, I'm like that too.
  19. x Thanks, Julie ! I bought some more books yesterday too . But after the book fair I'm going to avoid going to shops for a while.. hopefully it'll help. I've finished reading another book and will be posting a review soon. x x Thanks, Laura . x x No, not yet . I tend to read series once I have all the books, because I don't like having to wait for the next one to come out and be reading lots of series at any one time, that is confusing for me. I love Terry Pratchett's writing though so I've good hope I'll like the book . x x On Amazon.com I paid 4.99$ for them, so about 3.50€ or 2.50£ I think. I don't know how much they are on Amazon.co.uk, I have to buy them from Amazon.com because I live in the Netherlands, sometimes Amazon.com's books are more expensive for me than for US customers but I think these are the usual prices.
  20. x That happens to me a lot too! I find a book hard to resist if it has a pretty cover and a good synopsis and isn't too expensive.
  21. x I love that film even more! Unfortunately my boyfriend's DVD is packed away but once we have dug it up we'll be watching it again .
  22. Congratulations on reading ten books ! I'm glad you enjoy The Mortal Instruments series, I plan to start them once I've bought the sixth book in paperback.
  23. That's great to hear! I have it on my TBR, hope you enjoy it all the way through .
