  1. Thanks Frankie ! I'm glad you're enjoying it . Happy reading ! Yesterday after I posted I finished the Baantjer book and also read Nooit Alleen by Loes den Hollander (a novella). I started to read Missing Pieces by Norma Fox Mazer and am on page 40 out of 149. My calculations say I read for about 3-4 hours but it felt longer, so I'm not sure to be honest. I hope to do some more reading today but am feeling tired from going out to a restaurant yesterday (to celebrate my grandma's 80th birthday). I'm hoping to get through a few more short books today so we'll see how that goes. Happy reading, both of you !
  2. Happy reading, frankie ! I didn't read a whole lot yesterday, I read 136 pages of Barbara Taylor Bradford - Hidden and finished it. I read for maybe 60-90 mins. I had trouble concentrating and didn't feel in the mood to read, for most of the day (I'm not entirely sure why though). Today so far I've read more, I read for about an hour in Ann M. Martin - BSC 19: Claudia and the Bad Joke (132 pages) and for 45 mins, 81 pages in A. C. Baantjer and Simon de Waal - De Waal & Baantjer 5: Een Rat in de Val. I hope to do some more reading this afternoon .
  3. They are very beautiful!! I love them . That's okay, I'm happy to have got them in the end .
  4. I agree . I also sometimes feel embarrassed for my interests, particularly in the past. Well done for working out your worries for the most part .
  5. That must be difficult . I hope your distractions were fun though . Have fun ! Happy reading ! I'm wearing my BookWurm T-shirt and am almost ready to go, once I finish a few things on the computer. EDIT: To be honest I am a bit tired (did a lot yesterday) so I don't know how well it'll all go, but I'll see how I feel.
  6. Well, the read-a-thon is tomorrow, and I'm looking forward to it! I plan to wear my BookWorm T-shirt tomorrow, for the occasion.
  7. We watched Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace and Star Wars: Episode II: Attack of the Clones recently. We're planning on watching the other four films soon as well. I haven't seen these in a long time, it's fun to see them again.
  8. The poor otter! So cute! I'm glad they found her.
  9. I have now read 200 books so far this year ! I haven't read this many in (less than) a year since I was a child and young teenager (though I didn't keep track then).
  10. I received a birthday gift from Devi :exc: : They are: Catherynne M. Valente - The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairland in a Ship of her Own Making 1: The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairland in a Ship of her Own Making Philip K. Dick - A Scanner Darkly Philip K. Dick - Ubik Thank you so much, Devi! :friends0:
  11. Scott Meyer - Magic 2.0 2: Spell or High Water Genre: Fantasy, Science-fiction Age-range: Adult Format: Paperback Pages: 431 Synopsis: (no synopsis because the book is part of a series) My thoughts: After reading book one in this series I wanted to immediately read book two (both of them birthday presents from my boyfriend). The story continues just after book one. A lot of the characters we met in book one, make another appearance here. But there are also a lot of new characters. I really liked the new characters, certain ones in particular. Some new concepts and elements are also introduced. It's hard to talk about it exactly without spoiling some things (don't worry, I won't!). Some things are really cool, some things are mindboggling (but in a nice way). There are plenty of unexpected plot twists to be found. The book has an ending and I really appreciated this. I found out this morning there is going to be a book three (yay! ), and towards the end of book two I was worried it might not end but it did have a good conclusion. In the beginning the book tells you bits of what happened in book one, you could read this one on its own but you would spoil parts of book one for yourself. Overall I really enjoyed reading this book and I can't wait for book three (I've preordered it, something which I don't often do). If you liked book one, you'll like book two. The same things I said about book one, apply here, I still really liked the writing style, there were references, there was plenty of humour and there were great characters and cool spells and mechanics. It's a great blend of fantasy (magic and such) and science-fiction (technology). Rating: ***** (10/10)
  12. I hope you have fun with your girlfriend . I'm so sorry to hear about your grandmothers. Mine is turning 80 soon (she was around 25 when she had my mother and my mother was 25 when I was born). My other grandmother is I think one year younger. I even knew three of my greatgrandmothers, when I was a little girl. My grandfathers are both older, I think maybe 82 and 83. I hope you have fun !
  13. It's got quite cold here too! Brrr . We have applied for a little heater in the bakery, but the guy was supposed to come and have a look at the chimney and such, but he didn't show up , now he'll come another time. I hope it'll all be sorted before Christmas tbh, so that on Christmas we can sit around the warm heater.
  14. Welcome here, SunnyShadows! It's nice to meet someone else who likes manga! My boyfriend and I both like it. I'd be happy to hear some more of your recommendations some time .
  15. I'm glad your mojo came back to you and you've been having more fun reading . Well done on the acquiring too!
  16. I'm glad you enjoyed it . And well done for Kylie! I finished Scott Meyer - Magic 2.0 2: Spell or High Water (I really liked it - review in my thread later) and am going to try not to start a new book before the read-a-thon on Friday (and if I do it'll be something short, that I can finish today), so I'll be even more excited tomorrow. It might be difficult though because I love to read.
  17. I understand what you mean, I think it is a lot more about popularity really. I'm not too bothered myself about voting or the GR awards in general to be honest. But I thought there might be some interested people so .
  18. I think that's always a wise decision, to wait for some reviews . I find the Voyage very appealing. I have a first generation Kindle Paperwhite, but I'm not using my Kindle that much compared to paperbooks, so I don't think I could justify the total price at the moment (I have to order mine from the US which means higher shipping costs and import tax).
  19. I agree, spoiler tags would be a good idea . I will start reading the first book after the read-a-thon this weekend. I'm glad you're liking it so far, Kylie! You don't have to read all the books if you don't want to, I have all four of them so I'll be reading all of them (unless I really dislike it or such, but I hope I'll like it). I'm sorry to hear about your two gripes, but will be able to comment more on them once I start reading too.
  20. I have The Kill Order, I don't know how it relates to the story and whether it's essential reading for it (I'll be able to tell you after I finish it though). I plan to read the original three and then the fourth one. I'm also good with starting it after the read-a-thon / soon, if you both are okay with it (I don't know about Kylie..? Kylie if you read this, what would you prefer?). What about you, Devi? Btw, I think it's good if we make a thread about it in the Group Reads forum, when we start, to discuss the books . I'd be happy to make it but if either of you want to do so too feel free! I don't mind either way .
  21. It's a shame you didn't like it as much as you did when you were younger, though I'm glad you liked reading it again.
  22. When do you normally work, we could always see if we could change the date for one read-a-thon and see how that goes..?
  23. Here's my top three as of this moment in time: 1. A Christmas Carol (this was great!) 2. The Cricket on the Hearth (this was interesting) 3. Chimes (not too keen on this one but it was allright)
