  1. For the first time EVER, I have been at the very beginning of a new series and I must say, I love it AND WOT! I'm on episode 4. Even tho they air on Friday nights, I make myself wait til Sunday afternoon to watch. It's my weekly treat. the cast is really impressive and I can say I'm hooked!

I'm very excited about the Wheel of Time TV series too!!

I don't know if they'll put up one episode per week or what, but I'm very happy Amazon Prime NL will put up the TV series (as it's listed and has trailers and a release date of the 19th of Nov), I'm really excited to watch it (together with my other half, who has not read the books).

I thought about that. I really want them to dump a bunch of episodes. But then I'd watch them all and wait impatiently for the next season! :P Just realized that I have the books and have yet to crack one open. Maybe I need to do that now. hmmm.

  3. I made out really well. The outage brought home how dependent our businesses rely on these three social media platforms. Many businesses felt the burn and I'm wondering if they are now rethinking their business models. I'm actually in the process of setting up my real estate business online but I'm thinking I will not rely on FB, Whatsapp or Instagram as my only means of reaching the masses.

Am I the only one that finds it strange that the outage happened as soon as the FB whistleblower made herself known?  I wonder how much cleaning up they did? Methinks it's a bit too late as she already has thousands of recipes for their transgressions.

  4. How are you all making out with Facebook, Instagram, and Whatsapp being down today? I've got other things I can peruse that fell to the wayside so it's really nice to actually go back to some of my favorite blogs.

  5. I mean, I GUESS, if I'm taking more than one of my grands to the movies, plus popcorn and a drank, I could spend more. It's just the idea of spending that amount on one movie. Makes no sense but I can't do it! LMBO!!

  6. I just realized that I posted years ago as Katrina1968! Anyway, what I've found is that during each and every reading, I have learned to dislike Anna more than the last time. I'm over 50 and find that while she's caged by societal norms, she's selfish and self-centered. She cheats on her husband and then ridicules him for being who he's always been. She disrespects this man's home (I say HIS home because she obviously doesn't want to be there). She wreaks havoc with whomever she comes in contact with. And she refuses to truly take responsibility of any of her actions. When Dolly told her she was just like her brother, she was offended, after just telling her sister-in-law that she should forgive him.

I've no doubt that Anna dealt with mental health issues, but I am of the mind that they came on after her decision to begin her affair with Vronsky. She was the classic "shoot herself in the foot" damsel who, even when originally given the way out of her marriage, chose to stay as some form of punishment. And then when she wanted her freedom, it was too late. Everything she did was over the top. Other women took many lovers but Anna was what we call "extra." And I have no patience with her.

Levin also managed to work a nerve. He was morose, self-absorbed, and whiney. I was particularly disgusted when he and, (was it Steva or his brother?) were discussing the need for a school and hospital. His only concern was how it would affect HIS pocket and that HIS future children wouldn't use either so why the need? He could only care about another in as much as they came under his sphere of familial love. I get wanting and needing to secure the wellbeing of your family, but as he was in the position of a landowner, he did have responsibilities to the people working his estate. He cared about them only because they were a necessity to keep the farm running.

I think in the end, Tolstoy wanted to show us how the "wrong" love can lead us down the path of ruin and "good love" can lead us to a sort of heaven on earth. Anna vs Kitty and Vronsky vs Levin, darkness, and light

  7. Cicely Tyson, age 96. You know that they are "old" and you know that they can't be around forever, but even so, when they transition, it's still an utter shock. She was an AMAZING actress and I believe that had she been British, she would have become a Dame.

  8. What's everyone doing for dinner today? I'm doing oxtail stew. I've been wanting them for eons but they've been harder to get than hen milk. I was doing my online grocery shopping when I came across some at my local grocer's so I hopped on them. I love the savory, richness of the meat. I'll add potatoes and onions and make a side of collard/turnip greens. The weather is UCK, with rain, and cold. Perfect for this particular comfort food.

    What's in YOUR pot?

Yes! Grace and Favour, it's very funny

I'm also doing Columbo. I just love a good mystery and what I love most about Columbo is that the murderer is shown at the beginning of the show and how he goes about "finding" the killer. I don't think I can go back to modern shows.

Another Northern Exposure and Black Adder fan  :clapping:

I dont need any excuse to rewatch oldies, I do it all the time. Recent ones are The Vicar of Dibley, One Foot in the Grave, Keeping Up Appearances, Are You Being Served and Dad's Army,  my all-time favourite.

I'm always watching KUP and I just found the spin off of Are you Being Served, where they live on a manor in their retirement. Its a hoot! I need to revisit VoD having watched that in years.

I've been re-watching NCIS recently. I also regularly re-watch old series of Black Adder and Red Dwarf but that happened pre-corona.

I keep promising myself that I'd start Black Adder. May need to go do that!

Golden Girls and Northern Exposure for me, both great at the time, and gives me good memories of the 80s/early 90s.

I LOVE Northern Exposure! I actually waited almost a MONTH to get copies from the library (once they opened back up). Unfortunately, I'm missing season 2 and I think I like that season best!

  12. Do you find yourself now going back and re-watching old shows now that corona has movie/shows productions are down? Iknow I'm finding myself revisiting some oldies like Hart of Dixie, Gilmore Girls, LOTR, HP, Married with Children, My Name Is Earl, Murder She Wrote, etc.

What are you bringing out the vault?

Hmm.. I'm not sure what kind of specific recipes you would be looking for. What kind of things do you like to eat or do you not eat (ie. do you eat meat, fish, eggs, carbs?)? Are you looking for something for dinner? Or ie. something not for a meal, such as cake?

I'm also not sure what kind of things are available over there in the US vs the Netherlands. I often find with American recipes they name an ingredient I've not seen here.

But anyway.. if you want something typically Dutch 'hutspot' comes to my mind. It's not really a summer food though, it is a winter food (it's mashed potatoes with sometimes mashed carrots, sometimes sauerkraut, a 'rookworst' (a type of Dutch sausage) and gravy; I know there are varients with 'boerenkool' as well instead of the carrots or sauerkraut but I don't like that. Not sure what boerenkool is in English, sorry). My partner and I make pasta a lot (usually with tomato sauce, sometimes with carbonara sauce, bell peppers and/or mushrooms, and a type of meat), we sometimes have chicken tandoori with rice and vegetables but it requires a pack that I don't know is sold in other countries. We sometimes make bami but again that requires herbs that I don't think you can find in the US, but I could be wrong (it's pork, noodles, specific vegetables and bami herbs). On occasion we make a 'vegetable tart' with 'puff pastry', eggs, creme fraice, certain vegetables (for example, leek), a type of proteine (such as bacon bits / lardons, or tuna), and on occasion grated cheese on top (note: Dutch cheese is very different from the standard American cheese.. just fyi). Well.. just throwing some random ideas out there.. I'd have to think about what meals we often have that could be interesting.

Thank you for responding. I never got my notification. Ugh. Anyway, Right now I just want to get as many recipes as I can and then I'll cull them out. Once I get that figured out, I'll then go on to finding the recipes if they are available.

  14. Our weather here in South Carolina (USA) has been VERY mild this August. I mean, it's normally a "real feel" of about 100'f here, but it's been low 80's. Low 80's is generally the start of the fall season as it doesn't get "cold" until sometime in October.

I really shouldn't be surprised. It IS 2020.

  15. Last month I was listening to a Rick Steve's European Podcast. He did an interview with a woman 195 weeks providing a recipe from every country, for her family. I was so intrigued that I decided to do this for our grands (and us) to incorporate with some geography and history.

I was wondering if our non American members can list some relatively easy recipes that we may be able to try? Maybe a little background to go with it?

    Thanks!

  16. Hey y'all!

Its a cold, gray and rainy day and because it's such a day, I'm in my flannel pj's today. I got up, took my shower and put on a fresh pair. My favorite spot is fitted out with my books, writing paraphernalia, laptop and remote controls. I have movies waiting for us to watch either tonight or tomorrow. I absolutely LOVE my Firestick!!! No more sitting in a movie theater. We can watch all the newest movies from the comfort of our home!

Hope you all have a great day!
